Man you live my dream life I’m going to be 50 years old in less than four months and I’m still stuck in California I hate my life here I love your life you have found and have out-there
Same here Alexander. I am tired of the city lifestyle and I feel I need a different lifestyle. Farming is hard work but I feel it is much more rewarding and meaningful.
I was happy to find your channel. My husband and I have the channel called heartiness approach. We have a milk cow and raise our own eggs and meat chickens and then layers. We want very much to have sheep but have not ventured into it yet. I was very glad to find your channel since you are a first time Shepherd and it can give me the courage and the knowledge to be able to start this process. I have subscribed.
Information is educational as always Steven. Really enjoyed the beautiful film quality of this video. New baby lambs are just precious, and the beauty of of it all came across in such a special way. Loved it!
Appreciate your putting out this video.Good to see you able to transition from nets to two wire.Thinking of sheep but still timid. This is encouraging to move forward.
These videos you produce have fantastic content. This is exactly what I want to do with our new property (which is rented out for now)on 4 agricultural zoned acres in Hawaii. We are hoping to see you at the HOA conference in Frontroyal Virginia next weekend. 🌈😃🤙
thanks Stephen 😊 always find your content super helpful! We just purchased our LGD puppy this week and will be picking up 5 pure bred St Croix in a few weeks as soon as we have finished our fence! We are doing woven wire perimeter with one strand hot wire to connect the paddocks like you are doing. We also have netting, but thanks for the warning about sheep getting caught! Will bear that in mind. We are new to this too!
Wow, just found your channel and you were in a backyard in San Diego. This is amazing to see :). We raised painted desert sheep for a couple years. Though stubborn at times sheep are my favorite backyard animal.
Been following your channel for a couple years and just noticed you made an appearance on the Ozarks Legacy film… very cool. Love seeing my worlds collide and see that bears are actually everywhere. ❤thanks for your content. Keep crushing
Sheep netting can be frustrating at times but overall I really utilize it and plan on investing in more. Works great for cattle too. Great video Steven.
Thanks for sharing. I agree with you on the netting and danger to some animals. I had a 2-3 week old calf get caught in some poultry netting. Luckily I saw it happen and was able to get it out.
What advice do you have for those moving and starting to farm in a new zone/climate? We will be in a very similar area. Do you have advice for setting up a homestead? Harvesting hardwoods? Etc.
Bro get a welder and and smash the ends of your conduit pipe or chain link fence pipe. And weld your structures wicked light and super strong. I use greenhouse channel and wiggle wire to attach weather tight barriers to them. Great job your doing on your homestead!
I’ve always wanted to start but I didn’t know how to get started I live in a city and I am willing to learn and move off the grid to raise my own animals how can I get started ?
I followed a link today for "skyrocketing meat prices" but instead it took me to this "joy of sheep" video. Not sure if anyone will see this comment, but hoping you get that sorted out so I can watch the other video. :-)
I have about 2.5 acres which is all grass aside from my house. Do I have enough space to raise sheep? If so, what do you think is the maximum amount I can have? Thanks!
I would say only two ewes would be sustained by that acreage, if you're wanting to minimize your budget in supplementing hay during winter/early spring.
You're going to need to make a few different pastures and rotate as well if you want to minimize parasite exposure too. Pumpkins are those ewes favorite to rid of some parasites too.
I have watched you from time, but I find the lack of any food preserving techniques leaves your channel lacking. What to do with all the food that you grow is what will address the food shortage issue you are basing your channel on. We will starve over the winter when there’s nothing in the pantry to sustain us. You’re just another guy that grows food and that’s all.
I've been thinking about that exact thought recently! The last many years I've been practicing all those skills behind the scenes and just made my channel about farming only. I think I'm going to change that soon. I was the guy growing food 12 years ago before youtube when hardly anyone even thought you could make a living or do it using the most advanced natural techniques. I'm hardly just another guys that grows.

Have you looked into the OKC area? They are really hurting for residents.

You should go for it! If you can handle a dairy cow you are more than up for the challenge.

A long way from La mesa.
We miss your epic produce.

Great setup! Loved raising sheep, but it was nearer 30 years ago.

Thanks Thomas. I won't be coming this year but maybe next!
I can’t wait to see how you set this up. We are working on getting our first sheep and learning how to do rotational grazing.
That's fantastic you're going to have a blast!
Such a great video! We want to raise sheep, but still have more to learn. This was motivating. Thank you. Be well.
I'm glad it was motivating. You'll get there, you're wise to wait till you feel ready.
You are great at this! Your videos are really some of the best! Thanks!

Oh man that's so good you caught it! I had a neighbors dog get caught in it too, luckily the neighbor got me in time before it died.
So happy for you Steven. All your sheep look very healthy and happy.
Keep up the good work
God bless you

My videos the last 2 years cover a lot of that in detail.
Great job
I’m thinking of getting a mobile ram pen like Justin Rhodes has and use it to move 3 or 4 sheep around my farm. Think that could work?
Of course, hope you go for it. 👍
Living the dream😊

Agree, also it's cheaper in the long run, fasteners sometimes can cost a lot!
You're right man I do really need to get a welder! Great idea of attaching the wiggle wire.
You could buy a used trampoline. A friend of mine that keeps sheep uses those.
I’ve always wanted to start but I didn’t know how to get started I live in a city and I am willing to learn and move off the grid to raise my own animals how can I get started ?
Very nice Steven! 😎👍
Amazing video 💯
Yes, agree about meat available in the future! Please share more information! By the way, how many acres do you have the sheep on?
That field is about 4 acres. The sectioned off paddock is 1/2-3/4acre
nice...
Long t I'm me since we have not seen your educational videos .

That was the title when I first watched it - it must have been changed.
I was playing with the titles to test the algorithm.
I really couldn't eat the sheep because they are so cute and I would fall in love with them.

You should get a sickle bar mower and mow your hay with that instead of a bush hog.
His cutter will be fixed next time. The bush hog is modified to shoot the grass to one side.
Do not kill them 😊
A 'baby lamb' ?
