That's the one I love from him, or the related "Can you believe it?" he used to shout. Reminds me of the announcers for the Mexican Pro Soccer games I used to watch back in the 1980's.
The story for Marc McLaughlin's goal in BOS vs NJD really deserved a hat pick for this week. Scores first goal in first game in front of his whole family and probably 100 friends. Not to mention it was a nice goal in it's own right
Rick has been my favorite announcer. I'm not a fan of the team or anything... but he's just so fun to listen to. Best announcer in the NHL. Sad to see him go.
Thank you for putting RJ up for the top hat pick. The guy is a legend here!! 51 years with the Sabres calling games. It’s not going to be the same. My favorite calls were with Alex Mogilny and his call was “Alexander the Great”. Heard a lot of that between him and lafontaine in mogilny’s 86 goal season !! 🧢⛏⛏👍🏼
If you walk in a room and don't even see the screen but you hear the voice, you know it's a Buffalo Sabers home game. RJ maybe the last of iconic sports commentary. As a Caps fan he will be missed. Yeah Zegres is on another level, and yeah skill that $hi+ up. I think I remember people saying stuff like that of Ovi that is celebrating after a goal was to much, and disrespectful.
Yeah, I'm retired and I got stuff to do, like watch Steve's hat picks and hockey highlights and news all day--love the hat Picks, great content, thanks.
As someone that grew up in Buffalo for me May Day has to be one of the best calls he made. RJ definitely made people watch Sabres games even when they were terrible he could just draw you in
Just don't focus on the lacrosse move ... the whole sequence of shooting between the legs, retrieving the rebound and going into a lacrosse move into one flowing move is insane.
@@stentorofsparta3576 He's doing pretty well. 17 goals isn't superstar status by any means, but it does put him in the top 25% of all players with at least 50 games
I was at that game, best way to describe it was surreal. It's definitely been a privilege listening to him growing up even though the Sabres have sucked, but it looks they're turning a corner. Favorite call for me definitely is Pominville in ot against Ottawa.#ThankYouRJ
It was a very nice tribute video, but at the same time also shows that great times happened in buffalo and how exciting it can be to be a fan of that city. I hope the sabres can become a dominant team and bring back love to the city for the game of hockey
I remember where I was where Pominville scored against Ottawa to win the series. That’s my favorite one that I’ve seen in my lifetime. RJ will always be a legend in Buffalo
I went to the caps sabres game couple weeks ago and during TV timeouts they were playing ads for his last game for fans to come out and fans in the building were cheering for him during the ads. They really loved that guy in Buffalo.
As a Sabres fan since 1986, I have been blessed to hear many of those RJ iconic calls. I was at the Jimmy Hoffa and the Are you ready Legion of Doom games. Godspeed RJ, and Thank you!
Favorite call is definitely May Day One hat pick I was hoping to see was Tyler Pitlick's masterful pass reception between the skates to Poehling who backhands a perfect cross-ice pass to Ylonen who one-times it. Was a pretty sick goal.
I’m a Sabres fan, and for a Leafs fan to give a tribute to Rick Jeanneret, specifically at the end of a Hat Pick video, provides that we can have world peace after all. Top three favorite Jeanneret calls: 1) “May Day”, of course. 2) “Chris Drury! Who else? WHO ELSE?” 7 seconds to go in regulation in the PLAYOFFS. This was an incredible moment to watch. 3) “These guys are good! Scary good!” My other favorite moment to watch. Knocking off Ottawa on the road, in overtime, shorthanded. Gorgeous goal by Jason Pominville, but an even better call. I don’t remember who said it but most hockey fans remember what they see, but Sabres fans remember what they hear. Rick Jeanneret changed which sense we use to remember great moments for this team. To me, he’s the greatest play by play announcer ever to walk the earth. And we are VERY sad that he’s retiring right as the Sabres are about to gain playoff contention (next season) for the first time in a decade. If the Sabres ever do win the Stanley Cup, the first question every Sabres fan will ask is “How would Rick have called it?” The man is a giant, and thank you for treating him as such, Steve.
Rick is one of if not the greatest sport commentator of all time. There's no one who made games as fun to watch on TV as it was to be at. My favorite was "these guys are good, SCARY GOOD!" because I was at that game and im not sure which I would've had more fun at. Being there or listening to rick.
Fiala's snipe ... holy cripes. I also like how after Paul's assist for the tap-in, the Blackhawks goalie just casually takes a drink from his bottle like it's no big deal, probably thinking, "I can't be mad about that one."
Did any other Sabres fan just shrivel up from the goosebumps watching that tribute???? Just me?? Calls will never be the same. The two best commentators to ever call a game are now retired after this year. Thank you RJ and Doc, you two made the sport and absolute joy to be a fan of.
It wasn't just the stack. It's that he ninjaed both legs to his right side faster than light...Goalies are not given enough credit for their athleticism
The Marc McLaughlin goal (backstory included) probably should've gotten a feature here. Same goes for the double Sebastian Aho goals that broke the space-time continuum.
I'm a hockey fan from (and still in) Germany. I have never watched a full Sabres-game with Rick as the announcer. But even I would recognize his voice and associate it with Buffalo in an instant; and even I know the Mayday-call...
I moved from CT to NY in the early 90s and I fell in love with the Sabres because of these 3 things: Empire network, Pat LaFontaine, and RJ. His voice is the soul of this team and not hearing him call a game again will be devastating. He deserves to rest though. And if we ever win the Cup, I will always imagine his voice calling it. Dan does a really good job though, especially coming after a legend. My favourite call is 2-fold, the tying goal in game 5 against the Rangers in 2007 and the OT goal that wins the game. The way he says "Drury" with such abandon, omg. And then Afinogenov wins it and he loses it in the best way. His bellows, his voice breaks, his excitement. I love all of it. Those hip checks where you take the guy out and he flips heels over head (why is it head over heals? I mean I try to keep my head over my heals...) are dangerous. The checkee could land on his head and really get hurt. BUT, they are clean, solid checks and anyone who takes issue with them has no legs to stand on (see what I did there?)
I think the Zegras goal would’ve been a hat pick had it gone in on his between-the-legs attempt. To follow up that shot with a classic wrap-around would’ve been a hat pick. To follow the BTL shot with the lacrosse shot and score is unreal. Coyotes are jealous and bad.
