Huge Leaf fan but I had the utmost respect for Mike Liut, what a fantastic goalie. I always loved getting his hockey card every year. What a classy guy .......
I root for the Blues first.., then any Original 6 team.., especially when one is long over due 3:19 .., Good Luck to the Leafs..! Make Johnny and Terry proud… 🥅
I still remember listening to KMOX when it was announced that Mike was traded. Everyone on air was in shock. What I would like to say to Mike is, "Thank you." Thank you for wearing the Note, for your great plays and saves, and for showing the world what a hockey town St. Louis was (and still is) and why the U.S. is the hockey powerhouse it is today. GO BLUES!!!
I briefly met Mike Liut at the 1986 All Star game in Hartford. He was sitting behind the net very unassumingly with his family. He signed my program and was very polite. He played very well for the Whalers and the Caps for that matter
Great goalie! Not a Blues fan but always respected this guys game. As a kid in the 80s, we all wanted his 1980-81 hockey card, that mask was really iconic. Great video.
I remember watching you and hanging with you at Bowling Green and then watching you whenever you came to Detroit to Joe Louis arena with the Blues. Great guy and a class act. Good to see you again.
I remember being a kid, in bed, listening to the Pittsburgh game he describes on KMOX. I had a small radio by my bed, and I was not sleeping!! Game 5 of a best of 5 playoff series. Overtime was nuts! Scared nervous excitement every time the Pens entered the zone. I remember hearing all the calls: "He Shoots. SKATE SAVE MIKE LIUT" "He SHOOTS. Blocker Save" "He Shoots, STICK SAVE LIUT" "He Shoots. Liut gloves it and hangs on". On and on like that. Although I never actually saw any of it, the calls were great and I was so overjoyed with Liut that night!! I remember the save calls more than the game winning goal. So much joy and relief with each one. Rest In Peace Dan Kelly. You brought games to life for me. Thank you Mr. Liut for that wonderful sports memory!!!!!
Very underrated goalie, who is forgotten by too many. Fun fact: Luit got a shutout EVERY year of his career, with the exception of 1990/91. No small feat, given the era.
Great goalie. Very tall for a goalie back then. He was always considered an above average player. The only thing that annoyed me about him was how cool the paint job on his mask was when he played for the Cincinnati Stingers but his next team was St. Louis and it was just a plain unpainted white mask after that and until he retired in 1992. I don't know what the story is as to why he never got his mask painted again but if someone else knows please share lol

I remember, as clear as yesterday, getting a shutout (his last) against Toronto in 1991/92. 4-0 win for Washington.
Mike Luit is making much more money these days as a players agent negotiating players contracts.

He’s one of the reasons I started playing goalie as a kid. Great player, better person.

When I was young, Mike Liut, Michel Dion and Pelle Lindbergh were the Top 3 Goalies.
Liut is awesome!

Remember him as a whaler. 86/87. Great season.
Great interview! I remember how well he played in 1981 and was MVP of the all star game in LA too.
His modesty is so refreshing!
Incredibly humble.
Massive class act of a guy
Loved his mask
I remember this guy
This is the a really well made video. great work!

Still got his cards from the 70s and early 80s.
