I've had many Waterman pens (and still have them) from supermarket student pens to some really good ones and I have NEVER had a Waterman with anything but a great nib. If you want to try a fountain pen, this brand is super-reliable.
Maybe you know already, but I actually bought this very pen you used in this review. I couldn't be happier and honestly more than willing to pay it's retail price. I actually fantasize purchasing a second to give to my mom who I could barely pry away from her hands when I let her try it. LOL. It's such an outstanding pen, I love it.
I got a custom Silver/ruthinium coated nib. Black and white is a super cool combiation, that would fit so many pens. I do not know why comapnies are not doing this.
Maybe it is a ‘sucker crunch’. Only a few people are interested in a certain product that the only way to make a profit is to sell limited editions for the hardcore junks 🤷🏻♂️
I do hope that they use this model in other variations for purchase for the rest of us as they did for the 100 (anyone remember the Opera?) I do hope so.
Just listening to the writing sample conveyed so well how smooth that nib is. I have a Carène and two Duofolds and I don't intend to part any of them. The pen industry could learn from the plastic food storage guys, because they make great nibs :) (Sorry, Waterman, it's so unjust to call you names because of your daddy. I'm just parroting that You and your brother are undeservedly being overlooked.)
That's incorrect. They are hand made in france. Not just assembled. I think the only thing made in China is the Kultur, their super cheap stripped down Phileas like pen.
Let me know IF you defenestrate the pen and box. I would love to be there to try to catch it. Great pen. Great review. €1700 huh? I love black pens, BTW.
Nib aside, this pen looks like a 20 EUR school pen from Online, Schneider or Faber Castell. Maybe 30 EUR ... Why not buy 10 vintage Waterman's and flex your papers to „death“? I don't know.
@@FrauStaenki I am looking at the same video while holding an actual Man 140 in my hand. The one he reviewed actually. It looks expensive in real life and in the vid. Not one person I've shown this to ever thought it was a $20 pen. I stand by what I said, you are making wildly ignorant statements and can't admit when you are wrong. At least stop responding.
@wlbrockman More than likely your tines on the nib were slightly misaligned. This is a used pen after all. Something very easy to fix with a loupe, some finger preasure and brass shims. Also if not smooth, little bit of micro mesh will smooth it right out. Even just writing on several pages of copy paper will have a very fine abrasive quality and is a safe, slightly hack way to fix a slight babies bottom for smooth a slightly rough nib.
@@johnrus7661 Right. I tinkered a bit & am satisfied with it, though I'll probably give it away eventually. Fortunately our young grandchildren find fountain pens interesting & I paid so little for this one that it is a good choice for one of them.
I knew you were going to say "tertiary" and it made me smile. For that price I want 12 cartridges! "Man?" Sexist, the last straw, I will keep my imaginary $$$$, thank you very much. Well done as ever, Dr. Brown.
It's significantly more than that, it's MSRP is $2200 with the cheapest retail street price being around $2000 out the door. But really is worth the price. I can think of many wonderful pens being sold every day at this price point that are very simplistic in their styling compared to this. That are not even limited production. It's a luxury pen and competitive with the market.
My first fountain pen in modern times was a Waterman Allure. I still have it, and it's an excellent writer. I will always have an appreciation for Watermans. I would pay $1700 for that Waterman, just so long as it wasn't my $1700. I'm such a cheapskate.
It's more than that, about the cheapest you can get it retail that I know of is about $2000 USD out the door. MSRP is $2200. It's quite expensive but when you look at other $2000 pens that are very simplistic in their styling, not limited edition. It's really not overpriced.
I find it a bit overconfident of Waterman. Lose the over-the-top wasteful packaging. Forget the slick multi page book and maybe you have a shot at lowering the price at a wider market.
It's a cardboard box that cost a maximum of $10 for them to make. Cool your jets. Second, this is a very exclusive pen meant for collectors. They got plenty of pens meant for the masses. If ya broke, get one of those. For those not broke, buy the Man 140 and enjoy the most desirable and exclusive pen from Waterman. Besides, in the phountain pen world, $2200 isn't even that expensive for what it is. It fits squarely with other very nice pens in this price point that aren't even limited production.
It's a lovely pen, but that's about the most unique thing they got next to the Man 140 in current production. But it's not a mind blowing design and they are certainly not the first to do an integrated nib. It's been done for over 100 years. It's not a dis as I love the Carene, but it's far from mind blowing.
“If there was one more box I would throw it out the goddamned window.” 😂 Without a doubt my favorite moment from all your videos. I laughed so hard.
😂😂😂
Newell Rubbermaid once again reminding the world it has no idea how to ensure a historic fountain brand remains relevant in the 2020s.
Only see the video now! Thanks for another great video! Will send you some more boxes soon!
Indeed do! I love the high end pen reviews, even if my wallet doesn't from buying this pen. Lol. But no regrets, it's an amazing pen.
I really enjoyed all your reviews- It’s fun and funny too.😂😊
I've had many Waterman pens (and still have them) from supermarket student pens to some really good ones and I have NEVER had a Waterman with anything but a great nib. If you want to try a fountain pen, this brand is super-reliable.
Furthermore, both vintage and modern Waterman are really lovely pens and swell writers, to say the least.
A very attractively styled pen, but vastly too expensive. The Majohn version is probably about to hit Alibaba 😂

Thanks for this review. I wonder why pen prices are constantly increasing so much.

Another beautiful pen and a great review. Thank you Stephen.
The card is signed by Emmanuel Scribe, now that is a fitting surname 🤠 Cool pen, have always liked Waterman and enjoy my Carene's
Thanks. Good review.
Love the Russian doll boxes...good looking pen.
Thank you
Chris
Nice looking pen, at a ridiculous price; comes from a long line of Strong, Gentleman, Man 100, Man 200 pens.
It’s hand assembled in France, but where is it manufactured? China ???
That's incorrect. They are hand made in france. Not just assembled. I think the only thing made in China is the Kultur, their super cheap stripped down Phileas like pen.
I have two Waterman Man 100 Patrician FPs in blue and red. I will NEVER sell them, they will be with me until I croak.
You shouldn't, they are fine pens in their own right.
Waterman manufactured some splendid models back in its heyday, just have a look at its Le Man vintage models both black and silver.
I own multiple waterman's including modern. I can say they wonderful pens and every bit worthy of your consideration as the old ones.
I love this pen

This is patently false. That's like calling a fine knife no different from a dollar store knife. It's a wildly ignorant statement.

Uuuufff! The “Lagonda” Waterman😢
Bought a Waterman for $25 on ebay recently. Looks a lot like this, except that it is dark blue with red accents.
Yeah, there are a few like that. I can assure you they don't have this writing and ownership experience this one does.

Look up Waterman Man 100 Fontainebleau for another awesome and expensive version.
It's really a pretty cheap pen, you can pick them up for $200 to $300 pen. Vs $2000 USD for the Man 140.
€1,400. is a lot of money, “cool” isn’t enough at that price.
