Thanks again my friend. Nice analysis of the events. All I can consider, is that without the "containment", allowing Morgoth's forces to come and go with impunity, would have been MUCH worse. Considering the frequent events of plain bad luck the Noldor frequently suffered, it's pretty amazing they lasted as long as they did. As you accurately suggested, there were some good events that developed from the multiple calamities suffered. Sadly, it would take until the 3rd Age for the results to manifest. We sure got some great stories out of it all, at least! :)
