I think “safety net” is a parallel to “in my head”. She’s saying she’s falling again without even second guessing it or overthinking it. And like before she doesn’t want to regret it and for her relationship with him to be all in her head, for it to slap her in the face once again. In safety net she says “is it real this time or is it in my head?” It’s like a follow up to in my head that’s addresses her fears of making the same mistakes.

When your biggest and most commercially successful album is thank u, next, that sound becomes an expectation. When you release something that sounds almost like another artist, it's kinda off putting. You have to remember that Ariana's fan base is made up of teenage girls and gays. They want bops, not chill music. Now another thing that i've noticed with this album is that Ariana relies too heavily on vocal layers and tricks as well as production to make a song. She's put lyrics in the backseat and it's, in my honest opinion, hurting her. She's got access to the best producers and lyricists and this is what she delivers? c'mon now. She's got one of the best voices of this generation and she wastes it on trap beats and nonsense. I'm still hoping that one day she will have her Whitney moment, her Adele moment, or her Mariah moment. Until then, she's just another pop star.

When your biggest and most commercially successful album is thank u, next, that sound becomes an expectation. When you release something that sounds almost like another artist, it's kinda off putting. You have to remember that Ariana's fan base is made up of teenage girls and gays. They want bops, not chill music. Now another thing that i've noticed with this album is that Ariana relies too heavily on vocal layers and tricks as well as production to make a song. She's put lyrics in the backseat and it's, in my honest opinion, hurting her. She's got access to the best producers and lyricists and this is what she delivers? c'mon now. She's got one of the best voices of this generation and she wastes it on trap beats and nonsense. I'm still hoping that one day she will have her Whitney moment, her Adele moment, or her Mariah moment. Until then, she's just another pop star.
