I just love that. Because of the mechanics of the first game, if you jumped in water you would die. So Rockstar stuck with that and made it to where John can't swim. It's hilarious😂

The only one swimming was Arthur… the rest of them was in a lifeboat….so John could easily have made it to Guam with them..

What I'm still wondering is what did the rat concretely tell the Pinkertons to interfere with the gang's activities? Every time the Pinkertons find the gang, it can be linked back to something they did around the area where their camp is.
Blackwater? I don't think anybody would've ratted that one, considering they were all involved in it and they very well could've been the one to get killed. It was more that the Pinkertons were probably getting aware of Dutch's gang and planted a false robbery for them to pull off so that they could take care of them without too much problems, which obviously backfired.
Clements Point? The Grays and Braithwaites already figured out that Dutch was behind all of the recent turmoil between them and the word probably spread around like wildfire until the Pinkertons caught wind and the shootout at Braithwaite manor certainly made things easier for them.
Saint-Denis Bank? With the amount of chaos that Dutch, Lenny and Arthur made during the trolley job, the Pinkertons probably already knew that they had fled to Saint-Denis and its surroundings. When Bronte vanished, they figured that the bank was going to be their next hit.
The gang became very predictible at that point, and Shady Bell is really close to Clements Point anyhow. Dutch and Micah believing that there was a rat is probably down to the fact that they were on a powertrip since they were getting more and more infamous and rich with every new camp until they had a whole mansion (Although rundown) to work with.
Then allegedly Micah got picked up after Guarma and Lakay happened. It's from now that it is (allegedly) confirmed to be a rat in the gang.
But anybody could've been followed back to Lakay. Maybe it was Javier at the post office, maybe it was Micah although it was unknown to him that he was being followed. Could also be Arthur since he did run into Pinkertons at Shady Bell.
And almost every job in Chapter 6 goes off without any interference from the Pinkertons, Actually, for once it's Dutch attacking the Pinkerton instead of the other way around. The only time the Pinkerton attack Beaver Hollow is when there is only Jack, Tilly and Abigail there, which are the three most innocent members (Apart from Tilly, but she managed to escape.) The only one they grab is Abigail, which is the only member apart from Jack to not do a single crime throughout the entire game even though they do try to pin a murder on her.
The only other time the Pinkerton attacks Beaver Hollow is when they already know where it is (probably through the Army Train heist, the killing of Cornwall and John's breakout.) whilst Micah himself is there (who shoots directly at the Pinkertons.)
So I really don't think that IF anybody ratted, that it had that much of an influence on the gang's downfall. It was more due to an arrogant leadership who believed themselves invincible.
Besides, Micah does team up with Dutch again in the Epilogue despite allegedly wanting to turn him in.

Arthur even mentions this. He says we've been making so much noise. We don't even need a rat.

So as a writer, no mater how proud I am of my work, I will never put my real name on it.
It's easier AND nicer to just see and listen to what others say about your work without it directly associated to you, it leaves a sense of comfort too knowing people won't associate you as 'just the writer' or whatever. Its just nice to sit back and enjoy it since if it flops, no one is telling you since they don't know you wrote it.

  • @robertphillips213

If Abigail ever helped the law, it stopped after they unloaded a machine gun into a house with her son in it. The others girls were fond enough of Arthur to turn against Dutch after watching how he was being treated by Dutch and Micah. Arthur was to Mary-Beth and Tilly what Hosea and Dutch had been for him, only he never let them down. Even Karen loved Arthur dearly and valued his friendship. Most gentlemen are punks and monsters pretending, but Arthur, the rough outlaw, was as true a gentleman as any woman could ask for and he never took advantage of the girls. Far as I can tell, he never hooked up or tried to with any of them. Molly also respected Arthur immensely, always taking care to be polite even when pissed at Dutch. None of the girls would've allowed Jack to come to harm, so maybe one of them ratted to guarantee Jack's safety after the close call at Lakay and that's why Tilly got away with Jack so easily. Also, Charles would never trust the US Gov. or any representative thereof.

An example is that I did not notice Hosea's expressions because they mirror what my own would look like. Many say I look like a younger version of Hosea. Funnily, the character and I are both from the mountains of East Tennessee with similar body language. The actor was either from here or really did his research. Better than Brad Pitt in Inglorious Basterds anyway and Tarantino was from here, too. So was Sam Jackson and Johnny Knoxville, but we don't talk about Johnny much. Well, let's look at the second train robbery. It was stated that the "law" might have been tipped off, but then they dismissed that idea. But I don't think so. Question: Who knew about that train robbery? Merry-Beth came to Auther with the idea and then took it to John. I have always thought about Merry-Beth being one of the conspirators. Then there's Sean, who knew about the train robbery. The gang just busted him free from bounty hunters. But he was caught in Blackwater, where the Pinkertons had ample time to get to him. And we can exclude John and Charles.
