  • Replaced the GG fabric on this Gucci wallet. This vintage wallet was stitched with cotton thread, so everything had to come apart to re-stitch it with nylon thread. This was a $500 job.

Another 'fringe' project. I have difficulty watching some of these videos. I get anxiety issues. I cringe during certain stages and this video project/job was well shot/up close. During the tear down I freak out a little. During the stitching I cringe in fear. The metal work on the clasps made we want to run away. Such a small delicate thing of merit and vintage getting a new life. Steve didn't say a word or talk us through it, that increased the intensity. I took a few deep breaths and got myself through it. What a marvellous project! These silent videos are/can be on a different level. It is a great way to mix up his channel and add more torture & delight to the viewers. Such a beautiful piece when the wallet/purse was resurrected in true fine form. Blows my mind away.

    ASMR?
    Brother Steve,
Watching someone practice a semi-lost art is interesting, but it is the artisan who draws us in.
With that said, in my opinion, we should leave the ASMR format to our Armenians brethren who have no facilities in English. It is simply not the same without your famous "It's hammah time" or the falsetto voice you use when mimicking the trolls.
    Stay true, Brother.
    Respectfully,
    J.

Q: Steve. When you are resewing on the machine, do you do a test to find the exact stitch length of the original. On a small piece of fabric? Or, once you dial it in on an inside piece, you are pretty much certain the entire wallet uses the same length? Your stitch placement (over the hundreds of projects I have watched) is spot on.

11:53. I can’t really tell but it looks like you’re running that thread through the same holes already in the leather. If that’s the case I was wondering how you get everything to line up on the machine. Do you determine the amount of threads per inch and set your machine for that “step-over” distance and have the spacing controlled by those two little metal things that look like feet near the needle, or do you need to control the spacing manually as you pull the leather through? 🤔

    • @BedosLeatherworksLLC

Other reasons I remember hearing are designs no longer available, or current version is lower quality but higher cost, restoring something as a gift for someone else, lots of reasons.

Expensive, compared to target and Walmart, and still pricier the no-name true leather counterparts of similar design. But you pay a premium for the name…so where a similar design, no name, true leather, would set you back $100-$200, a Gucci at $300-$400 isn’t a far stretch… I’m not sure what you relate to, a Hyundai vs a Lexus, a baofung vs a yeasu, pirelli vs kumofast….😅 they’re not cheap, but relatively speaking….I can imagine this work was $600-$1000, for all that time spent and the price of a master craftsman…heck, mechanics at dealers charge $100 an hour. Easily 6hrs spent here.
