I first came across Neil in 1986. I was a Canadian doing Spring Break in Florida. Neil was hosting MTV and did dour little monologues, showed clips, and sang "Hole In My Shoe." I had never heard of the Young Ones but became intrigued and sought them out on the CBC (I also have some VHS that no one will watch with me).

Talk about novelty!!! When I first heard this song, I thought that Tom Bailey from The Thompson Twins had released a solo single!!! Then when I saw the video, it was Neil from "The Young Ones"!! A brilliant interpretation of the song originally made famous by the band Traffic in 1967. This got to number 2 in the UK singles chart as did the original.
To tell you truth it does sound a bit Thompson Twinsesque.
