The song about the lost shield is actually an ancient greek poem written by Archilochus a mercenary soldier/poet / adventurer much like alexios and kassandra who was from paros(the rival island of naxos in the game where u help ur mother) and became a mercenary to escape poverty and for adventure just like we left kephalonia for adventure!!, I can only imagine that the rest of the songs must have some deep history as well,this game has so much detail and depth!!

The music in this game is sooo great. It helps with the immersion a lot. I fell in love with Odyssey when I was riding on horseback on this country road, the golden morning sunshine streaming through between the trees, and some beautiful, mysterious background music was playing with a woman humming a soft tone. Amazing.
As a Greek who doesn't know ancient Greek I must say I understand fairly well most of the lyrics I had to read them though it was hard to make the words while playing the game. It honestly goes to show the continuity of Greek language through the ages. :)
Pretty amazing when you think that modern native english speakers can barely understand old english spoken less than a 1000 years ago. Also, I see some word roots common with other european languages, like "pino" and slavic "pit'" for "to drink". Can clearly see some common indoeuropean roots here.

And that's just the standard Ancient Greek, older versions like Linear B goes to alien language levels. Other than that, we can more or less make out the general gist of it by reading or hearing.

Assasins creed odyssey in my opinion is the best videogame ever made the story is amazing the graphics unbelievable and I own rdr2 gta5 and many other games including all the assasins creed games but this is game is just perfect because of spartan history.

lot of people like to diss this game because they didnt like the story but honestly, i can tell ubi put a lot of effort in this game. I stopped playing this franchise for its modern storyline a long time ago, when they introduced the precursors. I'll always maintain that the modern juno/minerva stuff is just bullshit. But if you don't try to speedrun the game for a hasty game review, i think you'll find the game to your liking, and grow attached to the characters.

@@raelsanchez6262 glorius would be a suitable word. having learned some ancient greek back in school and actually getting to respect and adore my ancestors through various lessons is a weird feeling when it is combined with stunning visuals and actual people talking in front of you in the screen,while you roam the streets of athens. it was funny and nostalgic (nostalgic because athens now is a REALLY bad looking city compared to its golden era predecessor) ,when for example you distorted the peace and someone asked ποίος ο υπαίτιος (who is at fault). i had mixed feelings. it almost feels like i would actually spend more time learning my history and my original language(which i deeply regret and will fix in the future),if i played this game in my teenage years. Some of us greeks have a weird intuitive connection to that era,and this game (especially the chant about poseidon) triggered this connection and my need to actually live among them. i hope i answered somehow adequatly to your good question.

I have for most of my life wondered how greek sounds, i knew i heard it after all i have been to athens, but i just wasn't a ustom to it and i was most focused about the greece then ppl, but after i have played odyssey I am going to learn atleast a1 greek just for my self, coz it sounds amazing
I always have the habit to sing to Poseidon when I go into the sea.
odyssey doesn't feel like an assassins creed game, but dang it's such a good game in its own right, and these ancient greek shanties just make it better.

Actually the Polinesian war was also an age of piracy. The word "pirate" goes back on the greek word "pírates" , piracy was very common . Oddyseus himself, was a pirate, when he was on his way to troy, plundering towns and islands.

lot of people like to diss this game because they didnt like the story but honestly, i can tell ubi put a lot of effort in this game. I stopped playing this franchise for its modern storyline a long time ago, when they introduced the precursors. I'll always maintain that the modern juno/minerva stuff is just bullshit. But if you don't try to speedrun the game for a hasty game review, i think you'll find the game to your liking, and grow attached to the characters.

@@raelsanchez6262 glorius would be a suitable word. having learned some ancient greek back in school and actually getting to respect and adore my ancestors through various lessons is a weird feeling when it is combined with stunning visuals and actual people talking in front of you in the screen,while you roam the streets of athens. it was funny and nostalgic (nostalgic because athens now is a REALLY bad looking city compared to its golden era predecessor) ,when for example you distorted the peace and someone asked ποίος ο υπαίτιος (who is at fault). i had mixed feelings. it almost feels like i would actually spend more time learning my history and my original language(which i deeply regret and will fix in the future),if i played this game in my teenage years. Some of us greeks have a weird intuitive connection to that era,and this game (especially the chant about poseidon) triggered this connection and my need to actually live among them.
