I think Davy is the perfect example of something getting more interesting when you're with someone who knows about it and is excited and explains what you're looking at! These videos are an absolute delight! I could listen to you two discussing flowers and ideas for hours on end.
Davy: Herbaceous borders are very labor intensive because you have to dig everything out, divide them, feed them and move the plants around. Me: Has two happy herbaceous borders and only very occasionally bothers to divide anything . 🤷🏻♀️ Really though, thank you so much for taking us with you. I’m an old soul so there are few things I like more than a garden and Sissinghurst is spectacular.
Hello I believe the flower or shrub Davy was wanting to know the identity of is a Cistus ladanifer or Crimson-Spot Rockrose! I love watching all your amazing videos. I am an avid gardener and have a degree in Historic preservation and have a job in interior design so I find so much interest, joy, and inspiration in all your videos!! So thank you so much!!
The low concrete pots/planting containers you fell in love with at Sissinghurst Castle are doable DIY projects. I made one about 20 years ago and it looks 100 years old. They are called hypertufa planters and the recipe/directions can be found on-line. The size and shape of the pots depend on the container you use for the mold. Save cardboard boxes for square and rectangular pots!! I sincerely enjoy your videos, Stephanie. Thank you.
For someone who a year ago hardly went into the wood of La Lande you have once again showed you are full of surprises, always ready to learn. With your newly found enthusiasm for gardening, plants and trees, and of course Davy, the chateau will be spectacular.
Oh my, what a delight! The best tour of my favorite garden. Davy's commentary added so much, and your enthusiasm for the endless beauty of the gardens made it even better. Thank you so much - look forward to more historic garden tours.
Steph if you’ve never been to David Austin roses in Albrighton, Shropshire you have to go! They have ‘garden rooms’ brimming over with roses and how to use them. Plus a fantastic shop/nursery!
Yes, that would be a treat 👏 . 🌹Rose water from the special Damascena Rose is hydrating & a natural antiseptic that reduces redness & boosts mood. Plus, this 💯% distilled concoction can also make a delicious & refreshing 🍨 ice cream 😋. Hi Stephanie, have you been to Great Dixter in Northium East Sussex, planted by Christopher Lloyd? Fascinating garden. I love Sissinghurst, thank you forshowing it to us. Take care Sandy x
I watched this yesterday, and then realised it was 50 years to the day that Vita S-W died. Her granddaughter Juliet Nicholson read out a tribute to her from the White Garden. A wonderful garden with one of the best Head Gardeners in the country. Troy Scott Smith’s knowledge, craftsmenship and attention to detail is second to none. American friends should look out for his lecture tours in the States with Garden Conservancy. Alas they are finished for this year. He is a brilliant speaker. He worked alongside Dan Pearson implementing Vita and Harold Nicolson’s vision for a Mediterranean garden, Delos. Another outstanding plantsmen, gardener and garden designer who works to commissions all over the world. We are so lucky to have such talented plantsmen. Great video. I’d love to see more videos of gardens in your region, if you have time! Thx again and best wishes
Thank you for pointing out these talented people. I will have to learn about their careers. We have a 400 acre Botanical garden near us and wonder if they will host lectures this year I could attend. Very inspiring garden. A labor of love that lives on. Thank you for this beautiful tour. I was sitting in my meager garden visited by hummingbirds while I watched this.
Again I am in tears as we walked through Sissinghurst gardens. What beauty I scarce can take it all in. A small wall fountain under the pergola would be a great reading spot. So many breathtaking ideas. I cam to England only once in my travels, saw the Chelsea garden show but missed so many of the Grand gardens. Merci

Stephanie, I am truly ❤️ enjoying all of these journeys through various gardens with Davey. Like you, I am learning a lot about horticulture and landscape architecture with each garden you visit.
Thank you Stephanie! It was such a treat to see Sissinghurst through your lens. The white garden was spectacular and I can imagine many of the plants in the moon garden in front of the chapel. So much inspiration for Lalande!
When being critiqued for not taking sufficient trouble to keep dying plants alive, Vita once said: 'I am not running a hospital ward for ailing plants!' (Quoted from one of Beverly Nichols books) That is the right spirit, I feel! I regret not having been to Sissinghurst, one of the misfortunes of preferring European travel in the off-season! Thank you for the video! It is epic! In time, the garden at Lalande will be every bit as legendary.
Stephanie, Dan is doing such a great job in the gardens and grounds! I just recently went through all your videos! I am at a time in my life where I needed to be distracted from some issues that were not pleasant and your videos always bring me joy. I realized in watching your videos how the concept of manifesting is so obvious in your life. We are energy beings and either create joyful loving energy or negative energy. You live in love and laughter and always focus on creativity and possibilities instead of worry. We are master creators so we create what we focus on! In watching your videos in order it is so much fun seeing how the “EXACT PERSON YOU NEED” shows up exactly when you need them! In observing there seem to be three reasons I think this is happening. First you are always open to possibilities, second you recognize the gift that is being presented to you and reach out to the person to share their gifts, and finally your viewers watching may seed your need for something and so plan a visit to offer you their gift. It is so magical! It just shows the world what a life can be like. I was so amazed how Thelma showed up! I cannot imagine how awful it would have been during the lockdown with just you and your mom having to take care of that Chateau. The timing was truly a gift from GOD and you value the Chapel so much and Thelma spent time their for his worship and prayers! I look back over my life I am 76 and see how God prepares us for our future challenges and at the same time provides us with what we need to face those challenges including very special people. In watching the videos in order that is so perfectly clear how each person showed up exactly when needed and with exactly the right skill set for what you needed next! I recommend that others go back and watch them in order and feel the magic and decide to live their lives based on the love and joy you share with all those you come in contact with. By the way I am a Leo, love yellow, peonies are my favorites, and focus on love and seeing the best in others! The yellow rose with ping edging is my favorite flower of all. My Dad grew them and in America the one I think is most beautiful is called “PEACE”! The bad thing they have done in America is they have bred the smell out of our roses. I don’t know why but it is hard to find a rose with smell anymore. I spent hours in my Dad’s rose garden back in the 50’s and 60’s and the smell was wonderful!
I think Davy is the perfect example of something getting more interesting when you're with someone who knows about it and is excited and explains what you're looking at! These videos are an absolute delight! I could listen to you two discussing flowers and ideas for hours on end.

Thank you for the video! It is epic! In time, the garden at Lalande will be every bit as legendary.
WOW! that was incredible. Thanks for sharing the gardens.I'm planting now and the inspiration was perfect😍
Stephanie what an amazing garden. I am sure with your creative flare you can incorporate some of this in your chateau garden.
This gardens are gorgeous. I love that fern and the little fountain. I'd sit there for ages too.
Le rosier Rugosa sent très très bon mais… plein d’épines 😅 !! 🥀
