    I remember trying to cross a creek once with my friend on his dirtbike. I sank into clay up to my skitplate. Winch wouldn’t reach a tree or anything. So, I took a large yellow rachet strap I had and looped it around a tree, and then hooked my winch to the other hook on the closer end of the rachet strap. Winched it little buddy little, 4-5ft at a time, and soon enough I was able to actually hook the winch cable itself into the tree and pull myself out 😂

      In total, I think my winch extends maybe 10-15ft. The nearest tree was easily 20-23ft away. Over half the distance I winched was supported by a rachet strap

    Can you make a video on how to change from the metal winch it comes with to the rope like yours

    I have a couple more tips.
    1. Hook the winch hook to something on the top of the rack. I have a bungee cord tied up to the top of the rack and hook to it so it has some give.
    The winch hook will freeze to the fairlead in the winter and if you're stuck up against a deep rut you wont be able to get a hold of the hook.
    2. Get a 25 foot tow strap and use it to tow your buddies out not the winch, it's quicker and easier, I use it way more than I use the winch.

    • @ADVENTURESThisWay
      @ADVENTURESThisWay  Год назад

      Yes there lots of other tips I may cover in another video. Winter and cold temperatures add more challenges. Kinetic rope works better than a tow strap. The challenge with pulling another ATV out is a solid point to attach sometimes. I've seen bumpers ripped off.

    • @EC_ATV_Outdoors
      @EC_ATV_Outdoors Год назад

      When you say strap though, you must advise to pull with the strap tight. Do go getting a head start.
      Better than a strap, a kinetic rope. They are designed for getting a headstart and pull after pull you'll get much better results. Plus, they tend to fit nicer than a strap in our limited space.

      @@EC_ATV_Outdoors You're right about going easy, I forgot that part.
      I have a cheap 2 or 3 ton tow strap, it rolls up into a pretty small ball, you dont need big gear for atv's.

    • @EC_ATV_Outdoors
      @EC_ATV_Outdoors Год назад

      @@nseric1233 yeah, I find the part where the stichimg is is tough to roll. So I hold it with some velcro tape.

    I have winched out more people than I can count who broke their synthetic rope with my steal cable winch.

    • @ADVENTURESThisWay
      @ADVENTURESThisWay  8 месяцев назад

      cool, been the opposite in my experience. But there is something to be said for making a recovery properly for the situation, regardless of the winch line material. And both still need to be be maintained in good working order.

    • @danfisher7856
      @danfisher7856 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@ADVENTURESThisWay I gave synthetic rope a soild consideration when purchasing my last couple of winches. While steel cable have served me well, I was willing to get with the modern times. However real world experience has led me to stick with steel cables.

    Do you have tips (beside praying 😂) when you get high centrered in deep snow and there’s no trees and no buddies out there?

    • @ADVENTURESThisWay
      @ADVENTURESThisWay  Год назад +1

      Well first thing, walk the hole first to get an idea how deep it is. Next thing is get off the ATV and see if you can move it. Just removing body weight helps, sometimes

    • @andrewmccullum4472
      @andrewmccullum4472 Год назад +1

      If you plan to play in deep snow, goto Canadian tire and get yourself a collapsible snow shovel, it's a life saver If you are ever out on your own in deep snow

    Idk what Polaris ur referring to lmao I never saw a winch wired to 4x4 u must have had a backyard mechanic set that up

      @ADVENTURESThisWay  Год назад +1

      On a Polaris 570 2up the AWD and winch power on the same circuit. Winch was jammed and it blew fuse and took out power to front differential.
      Didn't bother looking for a blown fuse at first, until I became obvious I couldn't pull the other ATV out with no 4x4. True story.
