I used "laminated panel board." Panel board is very commonly used as the back of a bookshelf, desk, entertainment center, etc. It is only a 1/4" thick and very lightweight. I used a 'laminated' panel board that incorporates a water resistant coating on one surface. I purchased it for about $20 for a 4x8 sheet.
Aren’t you worried about the reptile getting on top of the heat lamp and burning itself I want to in a Guana they got too close to the heat lamp stayed there and got sunburn so now I keep all my heat lamps on the outside of the cage and a certain distance between the lamp and the basking spot
Every case is different. As an animal caretaker you do what you need to do. So yes, if you feel the need to guard them from the lamps, do so. I am only sharing MY design that fits My specific needs. Thank you for watching. Good luck with yours 👍
Good point. Thanks for your input. I have seen some of that research in the past, but perhaps other people have not. I do not intend this video to be one-stop for building an enclosure, but rather to share ideas. One might consider painting the wood to seal off the pine fumes if they are concerned with this. My lizard has not experienced any illnesses or respiratory problems, but the wood exposure is quite limited and the cage is well ventilated, as shown.
THANKS!!! I'm building my two ball pythons a new cage and this is going to really help! Though I think I'm going to make it so it has a plexiglass front and that can slide in a out so it's easier to clean.
This helped make my custom enclosure for my asain water monitor so thank u nd keep up the work , just research different things for the animals lucky me , I have a reptile vet on call , 24/7
That's really cool. I'm planning to build a large enclosure that can fit perfectly under a twin size mattress. Do you think if I scaled this up it could support a bed if I put a box spring on it? Id think so right?
Okay, question: I noticed you put doors on it. No problem there, but my question is: how do you open the mesh?? o.O And like someone else has noticed: watch out with pine wood (toxins), but that can easily be solved by putting a sealant on it. Or by using some other wood. Nice concept, gonna use the basics and work it further out from there. ;) Thank you.
Whats the size? Do you think I can put a barrier in the middle and put two bearded dragons? My daughter lives in a very small place, and Im trying to help her out some.
Hey! I'm in school and i don't have the resources to build this but I do need an enclosure because my ball python is getting to big for its current one. If you wouldn't mind building one for me could you message me so we would discuss payment and details? Thank you!
I wish i did this before ordering a $140 cage that is not as big as the one i am going to build. i am making a 70''w,23'd',75''t one for a frilled dragon enclosure. :P When the big one is complete i will prob just try to resell the one i bought for half the price or w/e
Have you done your custom frilly enclosure yet? Would love to see it! Going to re-purpose an old wardrobe for my frilly baby soon. Looking forward to it! The cage sold to me was somewhere around $250 and it's a 75 gal long. I wanna get a tall. SO my red -tail will most likely be given this one.
I only used 1x2 inch wood and 1/8 inch panel board, wood screws and wood glue. I used old screen and scrap plywood for the face of the enclosure. It was all built to fit in a specific place in my house. This video is intended to give you ideas for your own custom builds. Best of luck!
I'm re-purposing an old box "spring" mattress (no springs, just a box of wood that a mattress sits on) to build an enclosure like this for our new bearded dragon. Can you explain more about how your lights can slide back and forth?
I just framed out a separate assembly to hold the clamp lights. It looks like an "H" but with 2 cross beams so that it could fit two or three clamp lights. As with any build, modifications are usually necessary to fit your specific needs. In my case, I placed this custom sliding lightmount on/in the top frame of the cage, inside of the natural guidance system that the design of the Top Frame provides. Good luck!
+Dylan Lauwers you can get it from wood shops, lying near a dumpster, from old furniture, things like that. just be sure to disinfect it all by bleaching it and letting it soak for a while, then rinse it off really good, let it dry and then you have very cheap or even free wood
I'm not sure if a lot of the general public is aware of this but DO not put your snakes in an enclosure like this, if they can detect fresh air and see a way out they will try to escape and rub and injure themselves rubbing scales off their faces and hurting themselves on that steel mesh, I'm not sure about other reptiles but i would not use this to hold a snake at all!!!
I do mention in the video that the window can be changed out to plexiglass. You make a good point, but this enclosure design was specifically for a lizard. As with anything, one must customize according to their needs.
Not for a bearded dragon like he had. They barely need any moisture. But if you needed to seal it could use duct tape and a tarp, or glue a thin layer of styrofoam to each wall and seal the edges.
Tate Mushroom That's exactly what I've been wanting to do for a long time now. I have a large adult Male Nile (lots of videos of him on my channel). Can you post a video of your enclosure and give a rough cost estimate? I understand if you can't, but i'd really appreciate it!
Dude. Lay off the drugs and enjoy life. Make a video where you speak up, speak fluently and have some excitement in what you build. Disliked the video.
This is really helpful. I'm getting ready to build 4 8-10 enclosures for 2 retics and 2 burms.
Thank you for sharing 😀
I followed the instructions no problem except I made a time-out box and put my kid in there.
I hope the kid is still in there
Model Human boflmao
Omgoodness...lol

this made my day

Soooo building one for my beardie.....Thank u :D great video.....Thinking of using this as a idea for a rainbow boa setup as well.....Thank u again
Awesome video!! I thought it was going to be complicated and expensive. Thank you for posting this video. Now I know it is doable!! HAGD
Nice, man! Great job!
OMG this will be perfect. Thank you!! I will be adding shapes and steps inside using styrofoam covered in paper mache.
Nice set up.
Badass setup bro. Thinking about something similar with sliding glass doors
Thanks a bunch man! Getting a retic soon and I needed this guide badly.

Thanks for sharing that story. I have had plenty of discussions with people about that. It is always a heated debate.

your voice is so relaxing :)
nice job! I like it I plan on building it when I get my chameleon but, gotta have a cage first
Just remember, a chameleon enclosure should be tall not long. So just do this but on it's side! Lmao
I like the set-up. What did you use to secure the screen? Staples or rubber rope bead?
Thanks! I used 1x2s on the back side edges with screws. There should be a picture of it in the video.
Thanks man, this is exactly what I was looking for.
Great work
was thinking about salvaging old picture frame glass to use for a frog tank

I need a glass bottom so that I can attach a under tank heat mat for my geckos.
Nice enclosure. Does that panel board do good with humidity?
beautiful and good job po
Nice cage!

I'm literally building one that looks crazy similar to that for my future caiman lizard and I've come to the conclusion that were geniuses ha
why does this guy sound like he's sleeping
Awesome enclosure. I’m building one for my chameleon currently but I was wonder where you got your type of screen from and what type is it called?
Looks good

What kind of wood did you use? I have read that pine and cedar are bad for beardies
+Texas He has enough ventilation that the gas given off of the wood wont effect whatever is placed inside. He also used laminated wood.
That's only the bedding bc it kicks up so much dust
im going to be working on a 5 foot enclosure soon hope it works out as well as this
Thinking of doing that for my corn snakes
very nice cage I like how u made the video, im building a 100 gal in a couple weeks after my birthday because im using my birthday $...
My bearded dragon jumped out of his cage I got it on video lol
Whats the size? Do you think I can put a barrier in the middle and put two bearded dragons? My daughter lives in a very small place, and Im trying to help her out some.
Can you list the exact dimensions. ? Also. Did you cut the doors in the back after putting the paneling in??
Thanks
Pretty awesome!

can a uth be used with the laminated panel board
Are those floor joists 24" long?
what wood you use? just the wood cost more than $50
depends on what you get, I use recycled wood
+mustachegirl111222 where can you find recycled wood?
+Dylan Lauwers you can get it from wood shops, lying near a dumpster, from old furniture, things like that. just be sure to disinfect it all by bleaching it and letting it soak for a while, then rinse it off really good, let it dry and then you have very cheap or even free wood

nice job - Just got a big fat tiger python
And he want a big new nice box

i like iut its really big n looks warm
Wouldn't the moister rot the wood?

With no middle support that wood will bow over time
kudos!

Your light IN the reptile enclosure .... Its not the best idea. To burn your reptile its a good idea .....
Nah many people do it. Plus they make protective cages to prevent the reptile touching it.
This guy depresses me
Dude we can barely understand you. Made me lose all interest in learning from your video
50$ lol lier
I don't lie
Easily under 50 bucks
If you wanna savw money, don't buy animals. Animals recuire good enclosure's with nice set ups. What's this shit.
