  • Soly and KVV are back with another deep dive episode - this time we look at four specific Masters tournaments:
2011 - a year famous for Rory's collapse, Tiger's Sunday charge and Charl Schwartzel's closing run of birdies to win
1977 - Tom Watson holds off Jack Nicklaus to win the first of his two green jackets (59:40)
1980 - After winning the Open the year before, Seve Ballesteros goes wire to wire to win by four strokes (1:38:00)
1989 - Faldo emerges as the winner in a playoff after Scott Hoch's infamous missed two-foot putt on the first playoff hole (1:59:45)

Majors deep dives are truely the best podcast I listen too. The way you bring the story of golf to life and make my imagery work is special. And some of the writing from back in the day is pure gold 😂

Please continue with the deep dives. They are my favorite part of NLU and Soly and KVV do such an awesome job. I think of how much my late Dad would have gotten a huge kick out of all the stories and observations...especially since he was the age I am now when some of these were happening. Brings a huge smile to my face every time. Thank you for doing these!

Absolutely fantastic episode. Listening this morning as the clouds and rain finally broke over Eastern PA. What a great mood and mindset this put me in all day.

This was incredible. Should be a yearly tradition before the masters. Loved then going hole by hole and since it’s Augusta, knew every hole they were talking about

Great content (other than KVV's faux pas at 44:14). keep them coming!

I just can’t get enough of these Lee Trevino stories. Unbelievable personality. The Trevino/Faldo Augusta van story cracked me up. Hysterical.

The cat banana in to 8 that Soly mentions at ~26:20 is at 1:16:40 in this link and it is JARRING how far right it starts. Schwartzel takes the wrong shape at ~2:04:40, with a twirl! Rory's is at 2:14:30 and I just don't think he hooked it as much as he wanted.

don't be too hard on Gibby Gilbert in the 70's. I caddied in a Us open qualifier in 75 and he was in my group and made 8 birdies in a row. He was a birdie machine.
