- On today's EJC Exploration we go Exploring An Abandoned Toys R Us - Permanently closed WE GOT INSIDE
Toys "R" Us is an American toy, clothing, and baby product retailer owned by Tru Kids, Inc. and various others. It was founded in April 1948, with its headquarters located in Wayne, New Jersey, in the New York metropolitan area.
Founded by Charles Lazarus in its modern iteration in June 1957, Toys "R" Us traced its origins to Lazarus's children's furniture store, which he started in 1948. He added toys to his offering, and eventually shifted his focus. The company had been in the toy business for more than 65 years and operated around 800 stores in the United States and around 800 outside the U.S., although these numbers have steadily decreased with time. At its peak, Toys "R" Us was considered a classic example of a category killer. However, with the rise of mass merchants, as well as online retailers like Amazon etc., Toys "R" Us began to lose its share of the toy market.
The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on September 18, 2017, and its British operations entered administration in February 2018. In March 2018, the company announced that it would close all of its U.S. and British stores. The British locations closed in April and the U.S. locations in June. The Australian wing of Toys "R" Us entered voluntary administration on May 22 and closed all of its stores on August 5, 2018. Operations in other international markets such as Asia and Africa were less affected, but chains in Canada, parts of Europe and Asia were eventually sold to third-parties.
The company continues to operate as the licensor of the chain's international operations, but its lenders announced in October 2018 that it planned to re-launch the U.S. Toys "R" Us retail business in the future. The lenders also partnered with Kroger to add "Geoffrey's Toy Box" (named after the chain's mascot) pop-up departments to selected locations in order to give Toys "R" Us a presence during the holiday shopping season. On January 20, 2019, the company emerged from bankruptcy as Tru Kids. There were only two locations open in the United States until they closed down in 2021 due to financial losses from the COVID-19 pandemic. However, on March 15th the same year, brand management company WHP Global acquired a controlling interest in Tru Kids, and plan to open more locations in North America going forward - ideally in anticipation of the holiday season.

Man, the memories. I remember being hit hard with emotions when Toys R Us announced they would close. Great find!

We don't do anything that requires forced entry, and we never vandalize or do graffiti, we record for historical purposes and we don't condone anyone to do what we do, it is dangerous and we do it so you don't have to and can enjoy the experience from your couch. Thanks for the comment 🙂

Fun fact: the last remaining Toys"R"Us' is in Singapore, there are around 15 still open there

this is the memories of the store that I love
my nearest toys 'r' us closed in 2018, it remained abandoned for around a year until some vandals burned it down in 2019. kinda sucked that it was so well sealed, i never got to have an explore myself there (when it was derelict, of course). I made so many fond memories there

Man. So sad to see one of my favorite things of my childhood just sit to rot out like that. Toys R us was once a thriving kids paradise that was placed absolutely everywhere! Now every once in a while you will drive by one that was once wonderland for kids, but now just sitting there rotting all the way until pure non existence. I mean I should be grateful that I even still see the signs on the buildings. Bc one day all remnants of this childhood dream come true will be entirely gone

I miss toys r us adverts always felt like Christmas when they came on tv, over here in the uk they’ve opened a small toys r us I 9 stores which they’re operating in a small section of w h smiths

That's awesome! Did this Toys R Us close before the others liquidated? Its pretty odd all the signage left behind. I worked at Toys R Us when they closed, and once we were turned over to the liquidators, we sold everything that wasn't nailed down.

Nice Video Guys! But please remember next time you´re in a abandoned Store...please check the bottom of the shelves...you can remove the lit most of the times...and people tend to hide toys in there. Often Pokemon Cards and Actionfigures...

They still have a Toys R Us in Manhattan nyc and one out in Jersey city they are probably the only two locations still left. It seems as if Macys purchased their rights/trademark or possibly had a portion of the company.

This is a urban exploration channel almost everything we do is trespassing, we get consent when we can and never damage anything or spray paint. There is no harm in simply documenting our local area history.

No trespassing sign on the door, doesn't matter if the door is open or not. It is still breaking and entering. If you get caught, you can do your next video from your jail cell.
We've been encountered by police multiple times, we know the risk and we do it so you don't have to 😃
Cool video & I've been to toys-r-us a lot but it's probably not a good idea to post videos of committing B&E. Even with the door open its still trespassing & illegal to go inside.
