Mid 50's, 30 year veteran, 8 operations already going on 9 and possibly 10, being held together by scar tissue and synthetic material / titanium, and loving life. Yeah I can totally relate to this song... This whole album is the most incredible collaboration of polyrhthmic music I've ever heard. I just can't stop listening to it. No other band making polyrhytmic music can sync with such synergy as this group. Definitely not from this universe and almost alien like, especially Danny Carey on the drums he's definitely quantum years ahead of all, fucking unreal.....
For sure! I've been looking for music/bands that can do something like what Tool does, except different. So far, the closest I can find for what I'm looking for in particular, is Dream Theater. The best way I can describe what I am trying to find, is the same sound sculpting, polyrhythmic infused constructs like what Tool does, which they have GREAT flow, similar intensity, with more major keys, and varied key signatures, but not too jazzy. Something that is like variably 50% Tool, 25% Grady (1st two albums), 15% Dream Theater, 10% Pirates of the Caribbean...
Thank YOU for your service and sacrifice!! Have you seen them live? 6 mo after a failed lumbar fusion I saw them at Bonnaroo! Like the previous times I'd seen them my body moved in ways usually impossible! But then during Parabola I became one with the music and had zero pain for the first time since I was attacked and injured in July 2006! Tool is my religion!
Well noted!! When I saw them almost 2 years ago, it was strange. Funniest thing was.. he asked anyone in the audience under 30 yrs old to raise their hands. He then retorts "Ok when we wrote this song, you were all just sperm".Maynard actually came up to front of stage, then stood on the drum riser, back and forth, while yelling his lungs out doing a 10 minute version of the Opiate EP song "PART OF ME" as second last song. After, (this rarely happens) they ALL came to front of stage, BOWED to the audience with arms around one another. Only seen that twice, and have been to EVERY Tool concert since 1993.
I don't care how many videos you watch of this magnificent, phenomenal band. Nothing, nothing will ever come close to seeing these guys live. Magical, beautiful, stunning. I cry every time.
I just turned 40 and can totally relate. I was getting out of shower and on 2nd step out I BROKE MY ASS! EPIC fall-- feet in the air, head smashing onto floor!! It hurt like ducklings!! I laid there with injuries to my arm, my head (almost instantly developed a bump), and my forearm (which smashed into edge of a wall BEFORE I even hit the ground!). I just laid there writhing in severe pain for the first few minutes and then once the pain subsided a bit I stayed on the ground for about 20 mins. Then when I finally got up my BACK hurt like a mommafucker!! I've healed up from everything EXCEPT the back pain. I can only bend and move in certain angles now. If this is what getting old is gonna feel like then someone put a bullet in my head right now! HA! And, yes, this song rings much Truer for me now! On a side note, I''d never have thought I'd hear Maynard write a lyric "the Truth never got in my way before now." I sure as shuttlecock hope that deceit is an aspect of getting old that no one has ever informed me of. HA!
Mid forties, never was much of an athlete, bit of soccer and was on the wrestling squad in high school, but beyond my physical prowess and the damages this body has survived, everyone still wants to be physically capable, but beyond that, as a struggling completely unknown artist, i still identify with this song, as i don't jist want to be physically capable to handle what needs getting done but mentally as well, and eventually age and time will erode both, as i feel is captured in him talking of struggling to stay relevant, and while he was never the biggest fame hog, even avoiding the camera for the greater part of tools rise to stardom, hiding in shadows with wigs and makeup, but I'm sure as the years have gone on, and tool became a group people's dad listened to when they were young and crazy, and calendars passed and passed with nothing new from tool, which is by far his biggest most important core output of work, he had to feel his clout and power in this world wane, and as humble as he may ever get and would probably still make music if nobody but his friends and family listened to, it's hard to accept becoming irrelevant

The most amazing band to see live. I've seen them live since 2001 and most recently in November before covid. So happy I did. So beautiful. Happy you got experience it with your son 😌😌
My lov3 of music is Aliive in Tool there’s history in the meaning of this band some people have said that they The changes in life and discovery of the lyrics and energy is untouchable so they are the best in alll the tracks released
I missed the show in Brooklyn in November 2019 because of ...work....a lot of year end projects due in an corporate job. Tougher to just bounce to a show in your 40’s. This soothes me “Feeling time bearing time....”
Now THAT is how you end a song! Takes me right back to seeing them live in 2019. Unlikely a live Tool DVD would do much to cure Covid... but it sure would give 2020 the judo chop to the neck it desperately needs.
Damn, these guys are just too much! Not only is their studio music out of this world, but another thing that I really respect about them is how committed they are to being faithful to the original when performing live. Too many artists try to change things up and put a unique spin on a song during a concert, but these guys always do an amazing job of reproducing the same magic, and with complex song such as this one, that's an impressive feat. Can't wait to finally see them live one day!
The songs are complex as they are... They usually start playing them live and they even make mistakes due to the complexity and length of the music. After a time, usually years they add more on the song making it longer and denser.

Yes sir
For real!!! All four musicians are equally yoked in the talent!
Love the moment at the end when Maynard just turns around watching... Clearly as much of a fan of his band-mates as anyone else.
