In my eyes the provocative lyrics are a double meaning in the fact that it's really a song about desensitisation to everything and just existing apathetically and only feeling something from extreme means. This song really speaks to me as the fact as I've been burnt out for years and have struggled with apathy for quite some time.
FYI - Tool has played this song more live in concert than any of their other songs (800+!!). Setlist is an amazing resource. Tool has not allowed audio/photo/video at their concerts for years. Really - no phones out. But, on the last song, Maynard tells the audience they can "pull their shit out" and record them, just no flash. That is why you see ~1 million videos ;) of this song live on yt.
Gr8 reaction! I've seen a lot of guys get very uncomfortable with the title alone but once you see the lyrics it's obvious it's an observation of how we go to more and more extremes just to feel anything really. And what's more extreme than this 😂
100% agree with this. Tool will use something that is uncomfortable as a way of cutting through BS.. reminds me of this quote. "Artists use lies to tell the truth, while politicians use them to cover the truth up" - V for Vendetta
For what MJK lacks in Baby Metal choreography he makes up for in humor. 😁 I think this song's meaning lines up with Vicarious in some ways. Looking for something extreme to fill that er, ...void inside you. the other thing was on MTV the song was credited as "Track 1" instead of "Stinkfist." Pretty sure the casually listening execs caught a case the vapours. Dirty minds!
One of their best.
It's good to push your comfort/familiarity zones. EMBRACE THE WEIRD
😎
Yas!!!!! So good live too.

Ok. Then I kinda got it right. Was scared at first.

The entertainment industry........."It will change your life"
The hijacked reward system personified
4° seems more literal to me. Stinkfist is more of a metaphor.
Yeah. People who try to turn 4 degrees into a metaphor? I’m like, “yeah….. did you read the lyrics?” ✌️
Another 🖕to the record companies
😂🤣
Awww, man. I was here for the Stinkfest....

Another great one
They do an "Extended Stinkfist" live. Check out the Connecticut video
