Love the squishing sound when I'm scrunching. I bet if anyone listens in while I'm styling my hair in the bathroom they'd be like WTF is she doing in there lol 😂
Hi Courtney I need WAY more gel than that to hold my hair, so i'm unsurprised you don't get much of a cast. Having a decent cast means you get a lot more longevity of style and needs a lot less refreshing. I also scrunch out the crunch with a little bit of oil or cream to seal the ends. The innersense side did look better, but at that price difference I would hope so or nobody would buy it. I got a pretty good cast out of that eco gel when I used it, but I used at least 4 or 5 times as much. As your hair is so wet and then you squeezed out the water without applying more gel, there wouldn't be a lot of gel left in the hair. That may work for a very concentrated product like the expensive innersense, but not with the eco gel. I find as long as the gel doesn't have a load of glycerine and I get a decent cast, then it is usually fine for a few days (this includes custards like cantu). In any case the idea of the video is good and will work for many product comparisons. Best wishes.
@@SwavyCurlyCourtney Thanks. Nothing fancy for a bracket - I don't know what products you have to fill the bracket. Just the winner of Product A vs Product B goes up against the winner of Product C vs Product D.
If I style like that (with soaking wet hair), my hair ends up with mostly 2a waves, no hold, and forever to dry. If I style with damp hair, I get 2b - 3a waves/curls and good hold. I think there are a few reasons for that. I think the weight of the water in my hair weighs it down (giving me flatter waves) and I think I get no hold because the stylers are being diluted too much and scrunched out during the microplopping - which leaves me with not enough in my hair.
Side by side comparisons are great! Like you said, make sure to use half as much as you normally use of each product for each side. Thanks for doing this!
I do some side by side comparisons myself and also style upside down. :) Usually, I will part right side up, put one side in a pigtail, then flip over and apply to the loose side like normal. Then, I sit up, switch the pigtail, and do the other side. I'll usually scrunch both sides upside down, then dry! Hope this helps!
I would love to see more Battle of the Hair Products videos. Lol. Also, how are you doing, Courtney? I've been praying for you and hoping yout treatment is going well. Hugs.
Wow this means a lot to me. Im actually not doing so hot. But it’s not terrible. Two steps forward, one step back. 🤷🏼♀️ thank you for your prayers!!! You are the sweetest!!!
I have been wondering too. I've had a sense you've been struggling a bit. Just know that there are rough patches, but there will be great times again too. (I've been symptomatic for many years, and I so I get it.) Remember to take care of yourself. ❤️
Helpful video, thanks Courtney! I like this type of comparison. I had to,go,look up the ingredients of each gel, and the Eco has glycerin in the top 5, so it’s a no-go for this Florida gal. I saw another gel from the same brand that has it way closer to the bottom of the ingredient list (it was the black castor oil and flaxseed gel, if anyone was curious).
I had to recently change up my routine since my hair has grown healthier after taking care of my curls for going on three years now. I started to try out your standard routine and my curls look their best using it! Thank you for all of the tips and the great, positive energy! 🙂
I think the results were inconclusive. I'd be interested to see the same two Brands again, but using the amount each needs in order to be optimally effective.
Maybe a little off topic but could you do an updated video on the Denman brush? This time style upright and twist your hair around the brush to create spirals? (Like a wet version of a curling iron- there are some youtubers who have done this) Maybe you could do that on one side of your hair and on the other side perhaps another form of styling?
I agree that the Innersense won. And yes, please do more side-by-side compares of different products. This is very interesting and informative. Thanks so much for doing this!
Courtney. Absolutely love every one of your videos. Could you review the Shea Moisture Raw Shea and Cupuacu Frizz Defence Gel Cream. It’s a super liquid consistency and I’d love to see your opinion on it! Much love xx
I’ve used this gel and for me it gave me instant flash drying and my hair just felt hard and so dry, it was the weirdest thing. I instantly washed it out so no idea how it hold or anything
I used that gel for a couple of months (to make sure I wasn't discarding it too soon). I didn't like it. It made my hair very dry, and super knotted. It had no hold even for my 2a-2b waves, basically it made my hair straight, very dry and super knotted. Once I stopped using it and began to use the Hibiscus and Coconut styling gel my hair gained its natural waves again, it feels super moisturized but not greasy (I have oily hair) and the knots disappeared.
First, I have the exact same water bottle, even the color. Second, because of back issues, I have not been able to style upside down anymore so I have been styling upright but I just couldn't get the same effect. My hair is stringy like you said. I realize I may not be using enough water so I am going to try that next time. Last, while I do think the the more expensive products might achieve better results, I usually ask myself, is the difference SO extreme to make the extra cost worth it. I don't use Innersense but I am not a fan if Eco gel either. In this case the Innersense side was better.
I know one brand that does that. But it's more of an European brand specifically _country specific brand_ CGM got _really popular_ in Finland and the haircare brands just took it. Going to their first opening page _already tells about how many of the nonsilicone products from that brand fits to CGM. I still haven't tried their gel yet because the last gel that I tried which was 8 strong hold just made my scalp scab badly. So I'm letting my sensitive scalp calm down before giving the other gel a try.
I love your honesty in this video and although it's so annoying to waste product I do appreciate you starting over when you made a mistake so we could truly get a good comparison 😊
I have wondered if more expensive products truly create better results. I'm on a tight budget but you convinced me Courtney! Yes I'd definitely like to see more comparison videos. Thanks so much!
We have very similar hair types so I enjoyed the side by side. I'm a good bit older than you but I now have an "empty nest" and can finally afford to try different types of products. I've just recently been able financially to start experimenting and figuring out how to style after 50+ years!
Courtney I love your videos, I am on your side, innersense won. My hair loves the higher end products way more, less build up, softer feel, doesn't feel producty and I am ok with this as it has become a hobby. PS, I cannot believe you have that new silver Dyson and you got the pretty holiday one for a giveaway, awesome 😊.
I actually quite like you with middle part! Looks lovely! I found the same, more expensive product in general are just more concentrated. So, if the product is cheaper I tend to use more of it. Although, I'm still trying to understand I create hold gel, just recently managed to get a hold of it here in the UK. I also got a small bottle of Orange Marmalade and it is love from the first sign! I pretty much already finished the bottle so will get a new one again. I remember you are not big fan of OM, but would be amazing to see side by side OM vs homemade flaxseed gel
I'd actually really like to see a side by side of the two Ecoslay gels, one side Orange Marmalade and one side Jello Shot. They both react very differently to my hair when it's wet but seem to behave the same after my hair is dried.
Have been using Aussie Instant Freeze gel for about 2 weeks now. Works pretty well, medium cast, can't really smell it at all. Nice hold. If this helps at all
Love your channel! I found you through Kayley Melissa on RUclips and I'm so glad I did! I lost my curls after traveling and damaging my hair, and they are just now coming back. I used your method for washing my hair and it looked 1000x better even with no product. Thank you so much for your tips and insight! I never thought my hair could look like this again!
I did side by side styler comparison while styling upside down. I just use a clip to pin up the side that I’m not styling then let that side down, making sure it rests on that side of shoulder and spray with water and use the other styler compared to that side.
i really like this video! could you do one where you use a lot of gel on one side and a normal amount on the other? also, i actually think you look good with a middle part!
Yes, I love the side by side examples especially high end and lower, more would be great. Your videos are so helpful! Inner sense side was definitely more!
Very intriguing to compare such differently priced products. I actually love that Eco gel. I have a broad range of prices in my product stash and I honestly think thats the way to go. I am becoming more interested in trying (and seeing) more affordable and mid-range lines. Would love to see you try As I Am or Eden Bodyworks!
Could you do a comparison of most moisturizing vs most protein loaded product? I think that could be interesting to see how differently they work in your hair
there are four stylers I'm interested in seeing comparisons of. the SM curl smoothie, the Bounce Curl cream, the TreLuxe Cream and the Curlsmith Airdry cream. Also, you look great with a middle part! It's ok if you don't like it on you, totally respect that but just so you know! super pretty and it DOES work.
Such an interesting comparison! I'd love to see more of these - I've seen some from other RUclipsrs, but my hair is more similar to yours, so I'd love to see your take on these kinds of videos 😁.
How timely, Courtney! I just got a trial size of the Innersense I Create Hold yesterday! And yes please, I love comparison videos! Also, have you tried Rahua products? xxoo
I want to see a video where you use way more gel on a normal wash day. Also think if you do more side by side comparison videos you should use the top down method.
Loved the video and would love to see more! I think the inersens won also, it’s been on my list to buy and I’m about to order it now! Maybe one video on products that claim to create curls
Thanks, Courtney, this is a real good way of finding the perfect gel. Would love to see more. How about blue berry bliss and another brand, maybe Cantu.
Great video! Your videos are always so informative and super helpful. I've learnt loads from you about CGM. I would love a Dyson, do you think they are a good investment for curly hair? Do they diffuse quicker with less damage?
Thank you for this and all your video! I looovveee side-by-side comparisons. My suggestions are to compare baby shampoos + leave-ins (good for my fine, thin hair) because they're so cheap and lightweight, as well as the newer, plastic-free/eco-friendly options coming out these days! ...and also LUS brand! I tried their 3-in-1 product for curly hair which was nice, but I'd like to try the wavy one. I've been trying to do the cheapest products (like baby, Aussi, or homemade) vs more expensive comparisons. But, I've already sold a lot of my more expensive products like curlsmith, or even the blueberries ones...I don't want to buy them all again 😂 right now I'm using mostly Giovanni products (but I use Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo which I think works fine, and it's cheap!) I have fine, thin hair and I wash pretty much everyday. Your videos have helped me a lot. I would love to see Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo (the gold one...or really any of them) and their leave-in (the pink bottle), vs something really high end. Homemade comparisons like store product vs a shampoo made from soap nut powder mixed with water. I'm trying to move toward waste-free these days, but eco- friendly products are hella expensive! I also soooo want the Moondust powder shampoo, or the EC30 shampoo + conditioner (plastic free)! I actually really like your middle part by the way :)
I like watching comparisons like this, it is interesting to see. Also you could try out different methods. I think it would be helpful to do a video for every kind of application method, every kind of drying etc. Just so us newbies can have an idea of what to try! 😊
Maybe because the eco gel is much thicker than most gels it weighs it down? When I use eco I water it down to help make it less thick so I can get more volume
Do you find the Perfect Towel absorbs a lot of your product. Since using the Perfect Towel after watching your videos, I cannot get a cast...wondering if it’s the towel or the change of season and curious about others experiences.
Hi Courtney, I've a Dyson and use the diffuser that came with it. How much would you say the one you used in the video helped the curl pattern. I've long almost waist length loose wavy hair. Thanks x
if you can change the title you should change it to “cheapest vs most expensive gel I own” or something like that; it’s more click bait-y and I think it would give you more views (which you deserve) ❤️ ALSO you should measure the amount of innersense gel you use in oz and the amount of eco style gel you use in oz and then divide them by their respective product bottle sizes to see how many uses each of them have and then see which one would be cheaper.
@@emmagavars6385 yeah her hair would benefit from a lot more gel!!! Actually the eco gel she used in the video is one of my favorites, but with this amount it's like not putting anything on...
It sounds strange to me too! I have heard bout that but haven't had the guts to try it yet. Lube can be made up of a ton of glycerine which is a very problematic ingredient for my hair.
I think it would be interesting to use the same gel on both sides but use a curl enhancer on one side too see if it makes a difference.
Yes, agree.
Yes. That would be interesting.
Love this idea.... curlcream or bo curlcream....that is the question!
YESSS!!! Would love to see that!
Side by side comparisons are good. I'd like to more comparisons of the less expensive products.
Yes. Keep doing these, it helps us decide what we want to buy.
These product comparisons are sooo helpful! I´d love more of these! Also, love the middle part on you!!
You are so sweet! Thank you! I'll work on more in the future for sure!

Curl enhancers for the next side by side. I need a good curl enhancer and would love to see a comparison of higher end vs drugstore. TY!
And a light weight version vs a more thicker consistency one pls!
AG Recoil or Uncle Funkys. Both are great. Uncle Funkys is cheaper and easier to find most areas.
I'd like to see some voluminising side by side products like the innersense I create volume
I think you should do this tournament style (like March Madness) Hair Gel Madness!!
Ooooo! You have the best suggestions! What bracket do you propose?
@@SwavyCurlyCourtney Thanks. Nothing fancy for a bracket - I don't know what products you have to fill the bracket. Just the winner of Product A vs Product B goes up against the winner of Product C vs Product D.

Hi Courtney, I've a Dyson and use the diffuser that came with it. How much would you say the one you used in the video helped the curl pattern. I've long almost waist length loose wavy hair. Thanks x
if you can change the title you should change it to “cheapest vs most expensive gel I own” or something like that; it’s more click bait-y and I think it would give you more views (which you deserve) ❤️
ALSO
you should measure the amount of innersense gel you use in oz and the amount of eco style gel you use in oz and then divide them by their respective product bottle sizes to see how many uses each of them have and then see which one would be cheaper.
I would love to see how you would look with these gels if you used at least 4 times more gel, if not 5 times.
yeah she never puts a decent amount in her hair. she gets teaspoon measurer and measures out teaspoon on products!lol
@@emmagavars6385 yeah her hair would benefit from a lot more gel!!! Actually the eco gel she used in the video is one of my favorites, but with this amount it's like not putting anything on...
Would love to see a mop top custard vs kinky curly curling custard!
VIDEO - How to deal with your cowlicks!! I have 2 in the front like you and a few more around the crown of my head.
have you ever tried lubricant as a styler? I read somewhere that there are people who use this in the cgm, but it sounds strange to me ..🤔
It sounds strange to me too! I have heard bout that but haven't had the guts to try it yet. Lube can be made up of a ton of glycerine which is a very problematic ingredient for my hair.
yeah, liked the side. Innersense was defo better xxx
Yes! Side by side!
Wow. There is a very clear difference between the two.
Ive was keen to know why you dont use Camille Rose products? Can you test their Curl Maker to Kinky Curly Custard please?
I have used the eco gel and im not a fan. I have really long hair and it just isnt strong enough to hold the curls for more than a few hours.
I like your shirt, Courtney! Where we could get that?
