I love "Weeknighting" content so much. Your recipes are approachable and are always something I actually want to eat. I also like the foods that are more of a "project", but nothing beats good things I can make in just about 30 minutes without crazy ingredients.
Agreed. I love trying out fancy recipes on a Saturday evening, but having more accessible recipes you can make every night are great. I'm happy a lot of cooking RUclipsrs are posting them more.
The soup you made must be in every homecoock's repertoire, especially in the colder days when fall is kicking in like we have now in Yurp... Healthy and very delicious, goes a long way with a loaf of sourdough to dip❤.
Please, please - more like this! These dinners are so approachable. Not ridiculously and silly in how they keep costs down. Just smart and not ignoring the test and time factors. I would add in chickpeas and cauliflower to the keema curry.
Thank you for making a note of pan sizes at 8:27! A 12" pan has almost 50% more surface area than a 10" pan which is a big deal that a lot of creators miss! Little things like that are why your videos are hands-down the best for home cooks.
Veggies are SO important. All my life I barely ate any of them. By 30 years old I was very unhealthy, feeling very sick. My blood pressure and my sugar level in my blood were out of control. I noticed I always felt bad after eating, and from there I realized my diet was very poor. Long story short, I started eating very healthy and lots of vegetables, learned how to cook them and noted which one made me feel better than others. I started a huge garden and from there I was eating TONS of veggies everyday. In a matter of months, all my symptoms vanished, I felt healthier than when I was 18 years old. Looking back, I can't believe it took me so long to realize that we are what we eat. If you are eating all kind of refined food filled with chemicals and sugar, all day everyday, its just a matter of time before your body sends you clear messages that you are doing something very wrong,. Starting a garden helps a lot eating healthy without really noticing it :) Everything taste better when its straight from the garden. And soups are the best way to eat tons of veggies too! Cheers for the video Brian
I really appreciate these style of videos. The weekend is great for the time consuming, technical meals, but its nice to be able to whip up quick, healthy, and affordable meals, especially when you have a family with 4 boys to feed...
Love your videos, they are stright to the point, without watching for ages all the chopping& slicing, you got my attention stright away, a variation of quick, delicious recipes Thank you👍🏼
To answer your request, yes Brian, I found this useful and would love to see more videos like this. I will definitely be trying these recipes in the next week or so. Thank you for posting all of these great recipes!
I had leftover keema curry(loved it), so I thought for lunch I’d try something adventurous! Used puff pastry from freezer and turned the curry into samosas-ish ! They were so good! Also had some frozen mango chunks so made a quick chutney while the “samosas” were baking. We will definitely add the Keema curry to our regular menu rotation, and make extra for the leftovers! Yum

All I’ve made so far is the keema curry recipe but OMIGOSH it’s made my life sm easier. After I made it, the leftovers lasted me way more than 4 portions. As a poor person who has to make my own food before work and has a physically demanding, energy sucking job, I so appreciate such an easy-to-make recipe that makes me feel so good after I’ve eaten it. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
I really like this kind of thing as an option. My household deals with a lot of mental health issues, so having something that is good, warm, and not overwhelming while still being a nice meal. Anything that'll combat depression, especially this time of year, is a win in my book.
These videos always seem to strike the perfect balance between realistic for weeknight home cooks, while also being elevated and interesting enough to avoid meal prep fatigue. Great stuff
Brian you are absolutely killing it with your content recently. Even if you drop a video for a recipe I’m not interested in making I’ll still watch it because it’ll be more entertaining than most videos on my feed. Seriously, you got to be the best channel doing this. Awesome videos man.
really appreciate the blend of weeknighting content and weekend project meals. hitting the budget, health, speed trifecta is difficult and you keep putting out banger recipes. please keep writing my entire menu for me!
I love the idea that you sat in front of your computer thinking "man, should I go the extra mile and add that slapping beef in the pan sound" at 2:10. And what can I say? I laughed hard.
Yes, Please more in this series. I also love that you use minimal types of cookware and utensils! I am trying to downsize my kitchen wares as we are now a family of two and all family events are at the kids home now.
Brian - Brilliant. This will help a lot of family cooks whose budgets have been wrecked. Can't wait to try these, and hoping for more of the same. Thanks for doing this for us.
Love this style of content!! I’m always hunting for actually fun recipes to make that are still healthy… as you said - not just another recipe for boiled chicken and broccoli
Hello, something that my mother would make as a child (she had 5 children) when we really didn’t have anything to eat throughout the week. We call it bean soup (black beans) with white rice and diced onions. :) I recently made this and it was so delicious and filling except only this time I would add diced Avocado. The soup lasted me 3 days and it fed about 4-5 people.
These videos are super helpful, Brian. I personally love the focus on healthy meals and using veggies. The speed and price are a bonus, too. Thanks so much!
I just started watching your videos last week and love them! Tonight I tried one of your recipes for the first time...the Italian Wedding Soup/Minestrone soup. DELICIOUS! I made a few tweaks but it was sooooo good! Instead of sausage meatballs, I made my standard meatball mix except that I made them with sausage and ground beef. And I doubled the amount because I don't like beans. And instead of kale I used spinach (which I added at the end). Definitely keeping this one on hand! Can't wait to try the stir fry recipe later this week!
You don’t know how happy it makes me to see every ingredient listed by weight! I keep a list of weights of common ingredients taped to the inside of a cupboard door and I’m always adding to it. Sure beats using measuring cups & spoons!
I have three girls - one vegetarian, one omnivore, and one picky girl. They all get to pick something to eat from the "Let's Eat This Thing!" guy, and the presentation really helps get them to try new things. I love how approachable your videos are. 100% hands down the household's favorite for recipes. One daughter does miss the "Lets Eat This Thing" dance at the end, tho
We made the Keema curry tonight and it was extremely good and easy to make. Will be adding this one into rotation and excited to try the others. Love the “weeknighting” content. Thanks!
This video is awesome! Love the focus on cheap, quick, and healthy!! Please make more of these! I've been making Ethan Chlebowski's Keema Matar recipe frequently for ages, but it will be really nice to mix it up with your Keema curry recipe. The noodles look fire as well.
Thank you! My goals this year are to BOTH become a better home chef AND lose weight. If i'm going to lose weight I want to love doing it by eating great food.
I made the soup and the curry this week. Both are going into “the rotation.” Our official rotation that we keep in the Notes app is the holy grail of recipes in this household so that’s a high honor.
Oh, yes please! More of this! Quick, yummy and, as @sillykeet mentioned, approachable. These three recipes would feed the two of us for six days, leaving us looking forward to making a "fancy pants" meal on the seventh. You really do a good mix on this channel. Thank you!
You know this to be true, but just to verify: the bloopers are great and make you stand out from the overly serious big money corporate productions. They don't make the videos or recipes any less professional, only more approachable.
This was great; I made some swaps based on what I had to make the Kheema (ground chicken, broccoli, frozen corn) but it still turned out fantastic! Next time I'll probably add more curry powder and garam masala, but this is being definitely added to monthly "kind of lazy but want something good" cooking repertoire.
Love this video. For me, most of these costs would be increased anywhere from 150-200%, but the principle is the same. I just spent sixty-five bucks on groceries for on week/one person today - most of that was produce, since I have all my pantry staples locked and loaded at home. It's rough out here. I'll take any ideas I can get, and your recipes have been a huge inspiration!
@Brian I love that you incorporate so many Indian-inspired recipes into these videos! On behalf of all of us Desi folk, one teensy little tip, it’s “gah-rum” masala not “gare-um masala” Love the content and your food!!
Just made the Pad Woon Sen - instant hit at my house! It’s hella delicious (especially with the copious amount of bok choy I put in). Thank you for making cooking more approachable!
Would you ever be interested in making a video about how you maintain your kitchen space? Like how do you keep it clean, procedure you go through to keep it clean, how do you keep it organized etc. I think it'd go along well with the budget videos you are making since some of us, admittedly, aren't so good at organization and budget management.
The way you entered the ingredients and directions made it very easy for me to transfer to my PTE app and as a result I actually made the recipe. Delicious
Thanks for this video. I've watched so many "budget recipes" videos but as a person on a fixed income, a lot of RUclipsr's ideas of budget is like $7 per serving. It just ain't it lol. I also like that there are a reasonable amount of carbs used in each dish. These dishes are really accessible for home cooks on tight budgets or limited access to fancy grocery stores.
I make soups like that last one pretty often, some pasta, beans, and usually whatever leftover meats and veg I have around. I love the little sausage meatball idea though. My personal favourite for these kinds of soups is a nice wedge of lemon, and some finely crushed/minced garlic to add right before serving, brightens and wakes everything up really nicely!
@@BrianLagerstromi'm sorry, I was just passing by and decided it wouldn't hurt to provide a suggestion, I hope it's not an issue. I absolutely LOVE your bread videos, I rewatch them every month for inspo:) your original video of three loaves from good to best literally got me into baking

I am SO looking forward to trying these recipes (but in a vegetarian version)! Your recipe always turn out perfectly and many have become family favorites (cue homemade green bean casserole).
Made the keema on Friday and it went down really well with the family. I upped the dry spices and included some fresh chilli and ginger as we like things a bit more punchy. But the simple technique is great and a brilliant way to include a load of green veggies

Thank you for sharing affordable delicious nutritious recipes. Food costs are out of control and we need all the help we can get. Keep up the great work
These all look great and I will try them. The first reminds me of something my mom would make the four of us when my dad was off on sales trips: ground beef browned with cubes of potatoes. I think all she added was salt and pepper; she told me some years later with a laugh that it was a Depression dish that her grandmother had made her back in the 1930s. We scarfed it up eagerly; but then again, I used to scarf up Spaghettios and Kraft Italian Dinners when I was in high school. Your stuff is far superior and easy to make! The soup in particular is a fun and interesting idea.
I really appreciate the creativity of your content. Your personality adds so much more to your videos. My picky dad loves your recipes, especially your weeknighting ones!
Keema Curry is great, just made it... but the potatoes take about 30 minutes to get soft. I may recommend boiling them for a bit before planking and stir fry.
Already made the Keema curry and Italian Wedding Soup! Took me a little longer than 30 min, but well worth it. Got a bunch of super tasty (cheap!) leftovers in the fridge!
Also I made a twist on your soup last night, i used italian chicken sausages (we can't seem to get your italian pork sausage here) and used snapped up spagetti to make a kind of chicken noodle meatball soup. The whole pot was demolished by the family, so thanks for that inspiration!
Brian. I just made a big ol soup following your 3rd recipe. It's delicious and very easy. Perfect for the winter wonderland that this area was just transformed into. Thanks a lot. Please include more dishes like this. I appreciate you.
Made the keema curry and it was absolutely divine! I omitted the peas, as some of the people I was cooking it for don't particularly like them, but someone else mentioned below adding cauliflower next time, which I will do. Everyone really enjoyed it, and had seconds and thirds. I still have some left over for another couple of lunches or dinners. I adjusted the recipe to cook for about six.
Love this kind of budget cooking content. I've made your $30 for 5 days of meals recipe twice now. Always a great one when you're getting to the end of the month and need to slow down on spending a bit, but don't want to sacrifice quality of the food you're eating.
Yes B-Lag! Love this kind of content. I kicked off the year with your 5 meals for $30 recipes and am really enjoying them all. Super pumped to try making these next. You have really helped me bring my meal prep game to the next level!
Great recipes! You can also blend half of the beans with some of the stock before adding it to the soup, that's a little Italian trick I've learned while preparing zuppa toscana.
Soup turned out great! Serving tip, no ramen bowls.☝️ Go wide and shallow so it cools faster. It's way tastier at bath temperature than piping hot. Garnish sparingly. Pepper, EVOO, and fresh parmesean can all blow out your palate... Then it might as well be doctored can soup.

I love this format and would love to see more “quick weekday meal” videos! Between you, Ethan, Joshua and Sam I always have something food related to watch and draw inspiration from!
You've transformed my weekly dinners! My family and I thank you! More more more videos please!
tbh weeknighting vids are probably my favorite at this point
Really liked the qualifications for these recipes and having 3 recipes at once!!!
You consistently deliver, best bread recipe, spagbol, chicken salad, recent tray dishes are now staples at my home. Thank you
These videos are super helpful, Brian. I personally love the focus on healthy meals and using veggies. The speed and price are a bonus, too. Thanks so much!
You are soooo right to add “Not 100% carbs” as a criteria. It would be so easy to make craveable meals of pasta or rice! Thank you for this!
Love this video. I live in South Africa and the ingredients are available. Lovely recipes and emphasis on quick and simple. Thank you. 👍🏻
Great video idea. Indian veg curries never do me wrong when these are my goals
Thanks, this Keema is pretty great, I have alot of it in my freezer RN.
I made the soup and the curry today and they are out of this world. Both are going in the regular meal rotation.
Love the all ideas to put more veggies on the dishes
Love it! Cheap healthy and not processed!
Great food for 4 for only $12. Amazing and very inspiring. Thank you. Also, love how you cook food from different cuisines/cultures. More please!
Yes B-Lag! Love this kind of content. I kicked off the year with your 5 meals for $30 recipes and am really enjoying them all. Super pumped to try making these next. You have really helped me bring my meal prep game to the next level!
I made the Italian wedding/minestrone soup today, and it's fantastic. Just the thing for a cold rainy day.
Ok, this is ridiculously good. Thank you Brian. You absolute legend!
Great recipes! You can also blend half of the beans with some of the stock before adding it to the soup, that's a little Italian trick I've learned while preparing zuppa toscana.
That’s great video, because most of us don’t have time and energy for long recipes at weekdays. New ideas are highly welcome here
Soup turned out great!
Just made the keema curry with TVP to replace the ground beef, turned out really well and even cheaper! Looking forward to trying the other recipes 😀
Made the kemma curry. Followed the recipe exactly. Turned out perfect. Delicious meal that I will make again

Going through some of your recipes. I did the oven pasta. It's really good for the amount of effort. Tonight I did the Keema curry. It's such an effective meal for the price. Pretty tasty too. Thanks for providing easy and approachable meals. I especially like that I don't need to make a huge mess and spend a ton of time.
