Hey mate .. what’s the fishing and crabbing usually like in cairns ? Me and my family are looking to move to cairns from broken hill !! Looking forward to getting up there and getting into it .
Well I’ve only been here for almost two months now and it’s been pretty tough so far. This was the first time I’ve been crabbing. I’ve heard winter is much better up here for the crabs. The creek hasn’t been fishing well at all, I haven’t caught much. On good days we normally head out to the reef and search for ground to fish. Takes about 40 minutes to an hour to get there in my boat. 4.2m tinny with a 40hp. There’s good fish to be caught if you can find them.
@@baydencharnock6671 Yeah we’ve been loving it so far. Everything just feels much more relaxed up here. Pretty sure when it’s good weather everyone goes fishing instead of work 😂 Ramps get full during the week. Starting to get warm but it’s not to bad. You get used to it.
A good call to leave the male crab in pot until next morning when you had the crab measure with you. Enjoy your chili crab meal!
As Rigger says , get yourself a boat hook so you don't need to hang over the side to pick up the pots, less chance of a crock having a meal.
I must say I prefer sand crabs to mud crabs, each to their own hey.
I do enjoy a good feed of sand crabs too.
Get yourself a $30 telescopic boat hook from BCF mate best and safest way to retrieve crab pots.
Thanks mate I’ll look into it.
