- This week we will be chatting with Nate Purkeypile, the solo developer behind The Axis Unseen, a heavy metal horror game where you hunt monsters from folklore. Nate Purkeypile worked for 14 years at Bethesda Game Studios on games like Skyrim and Fallout and is now creating an open world game as a solo developer using Unreal 5. We will chat about how UE5 makes this possible, how Nanite not only makes things look better but also faster to make, how the entire game is created in Blueprints and how some of those systems work.

Hope you all liked the stream! It was fun to chat about the game.
Really cool stream. Thanks for showing the unhinged Nanite, it got me inspired to use it on my next project.
Also, game's looking pretty cool :)
@@LucasCKret Thanks!
Awesome stream! I didn't catch the name of the VR Sculpting app if you mentioned it in the talk. Is it Shapelab or are you using something else?
Congratulations on the hard work. Wishlisted the game and am very impressed with your work and all the effort you put in! Very inspiring to see.
It's Substance 3d Modeler, which is an offshoot of Medium.@@vladdimitrov819

Hey @justpurkeygames just wanted to say your video with noclip inspired me to use unreal for my game. I didnt realize how powerful blueprints was, so thank you for that. Your game looks great, wishlisted :)
Glad you liked the noclip thing! And good luck and thanks for the wishlist! :)
The magic vision arrow is clever
It’s crazy that this game can run smoothly on Steamdeck.
Incredible work, man. Stunning. How long have you been in the industry?
About 20 years
Anyone aware of a step by step on how he was using the meshes as a painted landscape?
5 times the size of skyrim?
Yeah I talk a bit about why. TLDW: Works a lot better for an outdoor hunting game. I tried smaller and it didn’t play well or feel right. Skyrim is actually pretty compressed and it’s more about exploring specifics spots and not the wilderness.
