Hey Vic how was tge performance on the ps4? Was it very loud with the fan. Also been watching you since you started out in your home i believe, lol 20 plus yrs now. Great job.
I agree with the reviewer's comments on this game. I highly recommend you play a couple of hours each day and not rush through it. I have only advanced probably a quarter of the way through. So smooth and exciting to play but incredibly tense and, at times, emotionally draining. It helped that I played through a couple of chapters of the original Last of Us to get up-to-speed on the mechanics of gameplay. Naughty Dog has even made that aspect of the game easier for the player.
@@VenomtheOne I'm pretty sure some of it had to do with certain leaked spoiling plot points and apparent treatment of employees at Naughty Dog. On the former point, no true fan of the original game or Naughty Dog would decide against _Part II_ because of such leaks. On the latter point, having watched _Grounded: Making The Last of Us_ I am sure such accusations are false, not to mention, Sony admitted the leaker was never connected to either company. As for these legit reasons, I think it's safe to say it's fair to believe they're based on little or false information.
Luis Alvarez my thing is just that I love Naughty Dog and they haven’t let me down yet so I have to give it a chance. I see what you are talking about with agendas but both sides have them. If you write a story you can do what you want with it, that’s art. I don’t think they would just use this game as an opportunity to dump on fans, that would be pretty jaded. I absolutely adored the first game so I have to play this and even though Victor is obviously very liberal I don’t think that alone would cause him to give a game like this a perfect score.
I've watched a lot of reviews of this game. There's something so human and honest and conversational without being too loose about Victor's take. This may be one of my favorites.
This is the only review I've been curious to watch. Besides that, I know I was going to love this game regardless of the consensus. And I was actually able to go into this game by painstakingly avoiding spoilers, gameplay (aside from e3 reveal) and trailers. Love going into something fresh, it's totally worth the effort.

12:15 I really respect your honesty and candidness in this statement, Vic. I’ve been really hot and cold while playing through this game, love and hate. 24 hours in so far and while I’m not complete yet and the story hasn’t won me over, I have still really appreciated the experience that was this game. Great review and very good discussion points, Vic.
This reminds me of an article I read. It mentioned how some of the 3D animators and graphic artists working on Mortal Combat struggled to work with all that violence. The research they had to do, the pictures they had to see, to then recreate it digitally. One guy was diagnosed with PTSD from working with it for a long time. The realism ingame here is amazing, but I can't help wonder how the developers experienced the process of making the game. :s
I think that the problem that people have with The Last of Us Part II is the fact that it is NOT a happy go lucky, adventure game where the characters survive in the end and everyone is living happily ever after. The first Last of Us was NOT that type of game and why people think this game was going to be what you wanted is beyond me. In this franchise and especially with Naughty Dog they put story elements in that you were NOT expecting. Elements that make you feel different emotions such as anger, sadness, fear etc and I think that is what people aren't used to in this generation of gamers. They are used to getting exactly what they want in their games but its NEVER the case with films, tv shows and especially video games.
Wise words indeed, I think a lot of people still believe it will be like Uncharted. Now Uncharted is a brilliant series, one of my favourites in fact, but The Last Of Us is as different from Uncharted as chalk is to cheese. Nathan Drake saves the day, beats the bad guys, and kisses the girl, it's brilliant stuff but the world of The Last Of Us is an extreme opposite. It's very much like a Stephen King story in that not everything goes fine and dandy and not every character gets their so called "happy ending." That kind of stuff just doesn't exist in these two games, people are brutal, they will kill or be killed, in fact there is nothing they WOULDN'T do to survive. It's a bleak and violent post apocalyptic world and on capturing all of that Naughty Dog have succeeded.
I respect his professionalism and how he broke down his experience of this game. But I did not have the same experience playing this game. They were not able to sell me on caring for some of the characters.
Yea that was the problem I think with most they destroyed 2 of the most loved and iconic characters ever and for what shock factor wow they fucked it up

I remember watching you and tommy review games on TV when I was a little kid! you have clearly mastered your craft at this point. I value your opinion over many others, so I have to buy this game now. Thanks for the review!
"And I would go to bed like anxious and you know kind of freaked out, and I'd have weird dreams." 😆 I feel ya Victor on the immersion, games > movies. Movies could learn a lot from games in terms of making things more immersive.
I can see why some people feel put off by the, what you called, machine of Part II because they’re trying to build a brand with The Last of Us. But as someone who is such a die hard fan of the first game and everything about it I can’t help but feel so happy and excited about the future of this franchise. This is a really insightful review and I feel like I have a better understanding of what I’ve signed up for
I loved how you spoke about how "heavy" the game is. I think this happens because how realistic the devs wanted to show the world and they are using angry and revenge as feelings to fill it. As much as I think it is interesting to reach realism, I am not sure if it is a good thing put theses things together. For example, I am ok with the killing in god of war with all the fantasy elements, that take me away from reality but at the same time are able to give me enough immersion to enjoy the experience, even GTA that simulates a world but you do impossible things and the story it is not so deep in feelings, that take you away from reality. But games are getting even more close to realism and if they focus on "bad" feelings, I am not sure if it is a good mix. Different from movies and series, you play the game so you are the one making the actions (horror movies affect people and they know it is fake. Imagine a realistic horror game where the character (you) will feel it). They could have a big focus on the undead thing, and use the feelings on that, I think would be ok. But once you put this feeling into people, that you are making realistic... idk I don't think people will get crazy and stuff, but it is something "bad" and you are feeding yourself with that. Btw, great review one of the best I have seen. (Still trying to find a place to build worlds XD)
Another reviewer, video sophistry I think he’s called, said something similar. I genuinely think Naughty Dog prioritized making this more like a piece of art than a game, which means they were willing to make the experience more uncomfortable than games generally would want to make their audience feel. I think it was a gamble and an experiment that may not resonate with people. I agree with you. If this was more like an RPG, where you had control of the story, I think the realistic violence wouldn’t be so bad, because it would be an accurate reflection of the consequences of your decisions. As it stands, the game forces you to kill even when you don’t want to, and then makes you feel terrible for doing so. This will probably be a problem for many,
Then again, spec ops the line did something similar, where you didn’t really have control over the atrocities you character commits. Any control you have over the characters decisions is merely superficial and false. So IDK
@Jon Snow for example the one where they make it look like joel would be joining Ellie, which was switched to Jesse in the final game lel ND knows how to bait
Thank you so so much, I've been hearing so much negativity surrounding this game and it crushed me. You have restored any faith that was quelled in me. An honest review told from the heart, you know what you are speaking about and respect your viewers intelligence. I am now looking forward to this game more than ever thanks to your in-depth and expressive take on it. You sir are someone I will now go to whenever I am unsure on a product 👍 incredible review.
I'm sure it's a good game, but I have no urge to play it right away. I need a break from grim, depressing content for while. I'll pick it up down the road when it's on sale.
Victor crafts his reviews as well as naughty dog crafted this game. He doesn't turn away from speaking on the emotions that games invoke while playing. and tlou2 is no exception. Pretty much agree with this entire review. Personally I'm happy that multiplayer was axed, story shines in this franchise and the expectations of multiplayer in 2020 would've driven naughty dog to invest more time and resources away from that shine. Of course in order to compete with the over-saturation of already established multiplayer games that people default to. And besides, the majority of anyone having a winge about the lack of pvp here aren't old enough to buy this game anyway. So with that being said, Naughty Dog doesn't need to compete with age old pvp. You'll find as you get older, you'll want more solitary story driven experiences that are profound and compelling. Especially, as the hormones die down, your competitive drive goes with it. Just give me a great story. life is short and I don't want gaming to be reduced to stupid dancing emotes and a flying, mile high club party bus. Play forever.
I guess there was a reason why I couldn’t sleep tonight, I subconsciously knew that Vic was uploading this video. The first Last of Us was extremely touching and emotional for me and seeing how it affected Vic makes me think they took it even further in part 2. I can’t wait to play it but am also now terrified of the things to come. Who would think that we’d have games come out at any time that would make players as emotionally connected as we get from Naughty Dog
Cue all the butthurt comments from those individuals who were hating on this game before reviews and now can't stand the fact this game is a home run. Good review, sir! Can't wait to play it!
@Brandon Linares Yup, I think your type of comment is part of what she's referring to: assuming perfect scores are all paid for. Then again, he did pay for SkillUp's negative review, that which I just said sarcastically. 😉
@Brandon Linares The worst of the leaks seem to be fake man...some are true yes, but the worst are fabricated. Also I just want to point out it's a bit hypocritical to complain about an agenda when you clearly have an agenda of your own. People review bombing a game when they haven't even played it because they disagree with the politics is no better.
The game reviewers I trust most on RUclips are Johnny the Happy Console Gamer and Victor Lucas. Both are very close to my own sentiments and interests with games and that lets me know that how they feel about a game will be pretty good in line with how I will. Thanks for the great review, Victor. Keep up the great work!
Agreed these guys are mature gamers, compared to most crybabies! I get it if some people don't like the story or some parts of it. But to then go on a rampage like a squirming manbaby, I have totaly lost any respect for some of these so called reviewers!!
You know Vic has a passionate review when he repeats the odd point about the game, and man have I got a feeling he rightly passionate about this game! (I JUST KNEW you'd give it a 10 after you called it a masterpiece, which neither surprises or disappoints me, but in an excited way!) Real question is, however, does it have a performance mode in PS4 Pro Enhancements? Thank you!
@@brandenthomson9624 Yup, I found that out from Digital Foundry, and was fairly disappointed... but I'm still going to play it on my PS4 Pro! Perhaps, the PS5 will support 60 fps?
It may be a long while before I get this game because of just wanting to play other things now and personal stuff I'm dealing with, but thanks for giving an honest review, Vic.
2/3 my way through my second play through. I like that you said how much fun it is to play. Yes, the overall progression and story isn't "fun," thought it's extremely compelling and provocative. But, the game play is so much fun, so intense at times, but fun. Absolutely love this game. Where the first was a surprise because nobody knew what to expect, this one is a surprise because they managed to simultaneously align with and subvert expectations at the same time. Feel bad for people that didn't get it, and I don't mean that in a condescending way. I legit feel bad for them because they didn't get to enjoy this game experience as much as I did.
Wow the embargo was over super early for this game!? I mean I don’t blame them for lifting it early....Naughty Dog knows what they have let’s be honest! Gold! 👌🏻
Definitely the best, heart felt review of this game yet. Maybe the best game review of any game ever. Thanks for doing it. This game is truly a remarkable achievement and is in a totally different class.
Glad I found this channel/review, was spoiled with the leaks a while back and have been undecided about picking it up or not, watched a few reviews but think after this one I'm gonna give tlou 2 a shot :)
Hey Vic I'm another fan that watched u and Tommy on Judgment Day as a teen and I'm 28 now, great review and can't wait to play this masterpiece at midnight!
Great review man! I could see the honesty and intensity in your expressions. A person cannot hide that compassion for a game. Honestly I was getting goosebumps during your review of the game and Friday can't get here soon enough!
I remember having my Twitter question of the day regarding the first Last of Us answered by you and Scott on ROTR and now I'm back watching you review the 2nd.
I’m sharing this vid with everyone I want to play TLOU2. I keep coming back to this, and I keep going back to the game. Started a second play through last night.
Honestly, I've watched plenty reviews looking for one that felt real. 2 days later i stumbled here and want to congratulate you. Amazing job at narrating your xp without sounding like a robot and good editing.
I’m patiently waiting for my last of us 2 pro bundle to show up on the front porch so I can enjoy another naughty dog gaming experience. Thanks Victor for the amazing review!
This is my first time coming across your channel. This has been the best, most genuine and thorough review of The Last of Us 2 out there currently. Excellent job.
And I've watched the scene over and over. In my head. Abby says we need to talk about 2013 joel. Joel says what about. Everything happened as should that year? And she nods her head and he gets knee capped. Beautiful scene. To a rockstar fanboy.
vic youre a great reviewer. i cant wait to play the game. the first one was a game that took so much emotionally that i could only play it in like 1-2 hour bursts. toooooo heavy. i expect the same for this. but i cant wait!
I used to be obsessed watching Reviews on the Run on weekend mornings when I was a kid in Canada. This whole RUclips channel is a nostalgia kick back. Love Victor and great review!!!
And I know I'm creating a wall here but as a final aside. I did not play the last of us 1 for 2 years after release bc I was busy w gta online and on blind faith argued that i knew gta to be the better game. When you can pick a GOAT of all games without having to play the other, you were born to have an opinion. When you are someone trying to fake the funk to a historical revisionist in 20 years, you were not.
I really enjoy your reviews. It is obvious the game touched you emotionally. And imyour review definitely makes me want to dive into this world again more than any other review, by far. To me as an adult-older gamer this is what I yearn for. These games, these artfully crafted games entertain me and leave an ever lasting impression.
With this game getting review bombed and not being able to trust ''big'' and ''legit'' gaming websites, it's great to still rely on a great trust worthy reviewer such as yourself. #BeenWatchingSince97. #HaveTommyOverLOL.
One of the things I love most about this game already is that the NPCs you have to kill feel more human this time. Like you'll hear one of them scream another's name after they get killed or more dialogue between them; makes you remember all of those ppl have their own lives and that was taken from them and that makes it more grim, rather than it just being so cut and dry, kill these ppl and move on.
“Don’t digest it all on the weekend that you get it.” I just did the opposite of what you said. Really hope people heed this advice. It’s a gruelingly long game that definitely tests you. Great review, Vic!
Uncharted is literally so lighthearted though. Drake hardly suffers (even when he should) and the main characters always survive and prosper. Literally every good guy survives the story even Sam from Uncharted 4. Compared to TLUO it is family friendly.
Thanks for the tip on taking your time to play a game. I actually just finished Part 1 starting a few months ago. I really, really enjoyed this game and plan on getting this one as well.
Right on the head, Vic. This game probably needs to be played in increments. The Last of Us back on the PS3 was very bleak. Easily the most bleak game I ever played and I wouldn't expect no less from the sequel.
Bleak but was perfectly balanced with Ellie's humor, innocence, and the growing relationship with Joel. We got plenty of moments of normal light hearted interactions, to balance it all. The sequel is much much more bleak without any counter balance at least from the reviews, we will have to see for ourselves though.
Was a little hesitant about this due to all the reviews talking about how violent and sad this game is. But as an old gamer who loved the first one, I have to experience this game.
I'm about 20 hours in. It's f****** awesome. Yes there are moments that will make you angry but you are supposed to be. It's intentional. It's an emotional experience haha
@@LSCband Yeah I agree, loved it which unfortunately seems to go against the grain. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion of course, glad to see some people enjoying it atleast :)
@@LSCband I am about 20 hours in now, too. Holy crap, it is really good! Very emotional and intense in spots, cannot imagine it will let up moving forward, either! Glad I bought it :)

You do such a great job of expressing your emotional connection to the game. I’m looking forward to playing this work of art. Thanks for the thoughtful review and keep up the great work.
Vic great review. I love how much effort they put into these games about the violence. Another thing you mentioned is feeling overwhelmed by the characters like watching fear the walking dead. I gotta say i love that, i love seeing how big this universe could get. You also talk about being overwhelmed by how tense this game could get, i love but i could understand why that would be too much for someone like you. I love feeling how scary and stressful this world could be. I love being scared, thats why i love watching fear the walking dead and walking dead. I cant wait to play this game. Im going to play the first one again before i play part 2.
Great review Vic! I remember watching you and Scott review the first one on tv, time flies. I just hope the leaks that everyone so gleefully shared everywhere doesn't ruin the game for too many people. Personally I don't feel overly motivated to play it no matter the score already knowing the main story beats thanks to reading the comments on a Playstation Facebook post a few months ago.
It has been years since I’ve seen Victor and the Electric Playground name. I remember watching you and tommy tallarico on the show and reviews on the run.
But once you put this feeling into people, that you are making realistic... idk
I don't think people will get crazy and stuff, but it is something "bad" and you are feeding yourself with that.
So IDK
Wow, a 10. So much for the controversy this game was getting by certain people when it leaked early.
@Jon Snow for example the one where they make it look like joel would be joining Ellie, which was switched to Jesse in the final game lel ND knows how to bait
This game sounds like a perfect experience for right now. Great review!
Dude, knows how to review a game, definitely subscribing
Thank you so so much, I've been hearing so much negativity surrounding this game and it crushed me. You have restored any faith that was quelled in me. An honest review told from the heart, you know what you are speaking about and respect your viewers intelligence. I am now looking forward to this game more than ever thanks to your in-depth and expressive take on it. You sir are someone I will now go to whenever I am unsure on a product 👍 incredible review.
Cant mention naughty dog without mentioning rockstar . These two are on god level
I'm sure it's a good game, but I have no urge to play it right away. I need a break from grim, depressing content for while. I'll pick it up down the road when it's on sale.
Totally get that.
i get that dude.
Read that in Homer's voice
@@theinudemon :)
I get that too
Victor crafts his reviews as well as naughty dog crafted this game.
Amazing compliment thank you!
Christian D same except I just can’t be patient enough for the last of us 2
This game looks Mad! I can’t stop thinking About this game I want to play it so bad can’t wait for my copy to arrive.
When it comes to reviews, i know that I can alway trust Victor Lucas and you’re one of my favorite TV Hosts
I swear victor doesn’t age
That’s all I need to hear less the. 30 sec in ‘ Masterpiece ‘ thanks victor
9.5/10 i adored it. i loved the story as well.
@Brandon Linares You have evidence proving your theory? I doubt it...
@Brandon Linares lol such an incel
Great review Vic!
Thanks brother! Yours is great too!
Your review was great as well mate!
You know Vic has a passionate review when he repeats the odd point about the game, and man have I got a feeling he rightly passionate about this game! (I JUST KNEW you'd give it a 10 after you called it a masterpiece, which neither surprises or disappoints me, but in an excited way!)
Real question is, however, does it have a performance mode in PS4 Pro Enhancements? Thank you!
No performance mode. 1080p runs with the same 30 fps
@@brandenthomson9624 Yup, I found that out from Digital Foundry, and was fairly disappointed... but I'm still going to play it on my PS4 Pro! Perhaps, the PS5 will support 60 fps?
@@JBJblaze It will most likely have 60fps but I'm not sure about 4k 60fps. Would be a great surprise if there was
Honestly sounds like something i can release my anger into
Chill
One of the best reviews out there, imo it's the greatest game ever made and too ahead of its time for a lot of people.
It may be a long while before I get this game because of just wanting to play other things now and personal stuff I'm dealing with, but thanks for giving an honest review, Vic.
Best descriptive review, I’m behind, gotta pick this up, thanks Vic
2/3 my way through my second play through. I like that you said how much fun it is to play. Yes, the overall progression and story isn't "fun," thought it's extremely compelling and provocative. But, the game play is so much fun, so intense at times, but fun. Absolutely love this game. Where the first was a surprise because nobody knew what to expect, this one is a surprise because they managed to simultaneously align with and subvert expectations at the same time. Feel bad for people that didn't get it, and I don't mean that in a condescending way. I legit feel bad for them because they didn't get to enjoy this game experience as much as I did.
Great review as per usual !!! I’m soooo happy to see your face once again belting out the best reviews ever!!!
Wow the embargo was over super early for this game!? I mean I don’t blame them for lifting it early....Naughty Dog knows what they have let’s be honest! Gold! 👌🏻
week is pretty normal for a game, its free marketing
Chelf ya true enough... it’s also 12am to so I was stuck thinking it was on the 11th 😂 but I’m just here super early for the review for once! Lol
It's only a partial embargo lift. They are only allowed to discuss certain parts of the game.
What a beautiful review, Victor. Makes you appreciate the art that so often gets lost within the entertainment.
Definitely the best, heart felt review of this game yet. Maybe the best game review of any game ever. Thanks for doing it. This game is truly a remarkable achievement and is in a totally different class.
Wow - thank you very much! It was tough to avoid spoilers but cathartic for me to talk about how this extraordinary and difficult work made me feel.
Glad I found this channel/review, was spoiled with the leaks a while back and have been undecided about picking it up or not, watched a few reviews but think after this one I'm gonna give tlou 2 a shot :)
@Vicious Spiegel... Who said I wasn't going play ghost of tsushima?
Vicious Spiegel why u so mad?
Hey Vic I'm another fan that watched u and Tommy on Judgment Day as a teen and I'm 28 now, great review and can't wait to play this masterpiece at midnight!
What a review, man you got me hyped again
Thank you!
Hell yeah😤
Vic is a hype machine!
Damn I have not seen this dude since Judgement Day on G4TV.
The passion and purity you put into your reviews is unmatched Vic. Thanks again for such an honest review! Can't wait for this game! 🤙
8:46 holy moly. Just hearing this stresses me the F out man! :D
Awesome review btw! Got me hyped up again!
those things take so many god damn bullets
I’m sharing this vid with everyone I want to play TLOU2. I keep coming back to this, and I keep going back to the game. Started a second play through last night.
Did you watch this? We put a lot of work into this vid...

Electric Playground Network - EPN Damn right I did! I gave it a thumbs up too. Love your work 👍🏻
Honestly, I've watched plenty reviews looking for one that felt real.
2 days later i stumbled here and want to congratulate you. Amazing job at narrating your xp without sounding like a robot and good editing.
Thank you for the kind words! :)
Thanks for being a balanced reviewer. Other outlets seem to throw a lot of bias but your retain logic and neutrality. Definite buy.
I’m patiently waiting for my last of us 2 pro bundle to show up on the front porch so I can enjoy another naughty dog gaming experience. Thanks Victor for the amazing review!
Glad I found your youtube channel Vic, was always my favorite video game critique with such profound thoughts.
This is my first time coming across your channel. This has been the best, most genuine and thorough review of The Last of Us 2 out there currently. Excellent job.
Yo!!! I used to watch you and Tommy back in the day, always was a good show, even now that I'm in my 30's lol. You haven't aged a day! Cheers!
And I've watched the scene over and over. In my head. Abby says we need to talk about 2013 joel. Joel says what about. Everything happened as should that year? And she nods her head and he gets knee capped. Beautiful scene. To a rockstar fanboy.
Fantastic review & enthusiasm man! Very excited to play this tonight :D
good review vic. I haven't seen your content since G4 so to see you still making quality reviews as me excited to see what next from you
good video
This review was a pleasure to watch. Great work and thank you for your effort.
Thank you for your thoughts and this review. Been a fan since your TechTV days.
vic youre a great reviewer. i cant wait to play the game. the first one was a game that took so much emotionally that i could only play it in like 1-2 hour bursts. toooooo heavy. i expect the same for this. but i cant wait!
I used to be obsessed watching Reviews on the Run on weekend mornings when I was a kid in Canada. This whole RUclips channel is a nostalgia kick back. Love Victor and great review!!!
I'm glad I found you. This is a really great review. Thank you so much and I'm subscribed!
Best tlou II REVIEW yet and I have watched dozens. Great job dude 👏
Phenomenal review Vic. Keep up the good work!
Damn, I'm tearing up from a review?! Great work as always, Vic
Great review! You explain very well and honest, and in a way not every reviewer does.
Love this dude's channel and reviews, so genuine. I will surely play this game, can't wait!
I'm not gonna be able to play this for a good long while, glad to hear it's gonna be worth the wait.
You can it made for growth up like me I glad I preorder it going pick up my collection edition of gamestop's this Friday
I did the same over the weekend, 3 days later and it's still stuck in my head.
10:38 Family friendly adventure..
*cuts to Uncharted 2 where Drake kills hundreds of people on the train.
Uncharted is literally so lighthearted though. Drake hardly suffers (even when he should) and the main characters always survive and prosper. Literally every good guy survives the story even Sam from Uncharted 4. Compared to TLUO it is family friendly.
@@ygjjjgui just a lighthearted slaughter of 300 men lol
@LetsGoChocobo Letsgo He's Indiana Jones with a much bigger body count.
Thanks for the tip on taking your time to play a game. I actually just finished Part 1 starting a few months ago. I really, really enjoyed this game and plan on getting this one as well.
Finished it last night, fell asleep thinking about it, woke up this morning thinking about it. 10/10
Now bring it out for PC.
Not gonna happen.
Vic, I’ve been watching you for at least 15 years, and I’ve only recently started dabbling in your RUclips Channel.
Honestly man, I love your style.
It's like the good old judgment days
It has been years since I’ve seen Victor and the Electric Playground name. I remember watching you and tommy tallarico on the show and reviews on the run. I have always appreciated your style of reviewing as it’s so genuine and you have a passion for video games that is so contagious. I am happy to have found this channel
Love the last of us team but I’m gonna pass on this right now, need love not hate/fear right now. Great review Vic as always! can’t wait until I’m in a place to give this a shot!
Totally get this. ❤️
Mmm, that Spiderman on the shelf behind you was watching us , he opened his eyes
