I do have an OWC thunderbolt hub to give me extra ports and I store my data on an external 2tb SSD drive, which still worked out may cheaper than paying an Apple Tax for more Ram and allows me to keep enough free drive space for any potential file swapping that may be needed due to less RAM. Still amazed at how tight Apple is with a dime. 12 gig memory? Would it kill them to put in 16 gig of memory as base? How many apps are not going to fly with 12 gigs?
Hmm.. even as a tech professional I fail to get excited by this. My 2020 macbook pro (M1) still works fine for day to day tasks, dont think I will be updating this time around. My work machine is a m3 max macbook pro will probably not get updated the next few years either.
Considering the my new iPad Pro 13” only came with one Thunderbolt port, as before, I’m not so sure the Mini will have four TB ports. Certainly the base model shouldn’t. And iPadOS can use more than one port, and it’s silly for him to say that maybe iPadOS can’t use 12GB RAM when it can use 16GB, which is what mine has. So one of the other restrictive options such as making the 16GB upgrade less valuable, with the 1TB SSD, or using binned RAM makes more sense.
Whenever people talk about redesigning the Mac Mini, I think about the outfits that have server arrays they use the mini in. Potential headaches there.
What I want to know, is why can they run the Max and Ultra chips in the MacBook Pro profile, but the Mini which is already six times as thick cant... they needed to make an all new chasis which is twice as tall again in the Studio for the required 'cooling'.
Apple's own Logic Pro uses only performance cores. So for music makers, M1 is still the most performant choice! What does that say about the Apple Logic team?
The only problem with the headless Macs is Apple only sells expensive displays that support them while people say that 3rd party 4k display either aren't good on Macs or are just ok. Wish Apple would release a standalone 24" Display.
4K is fine with the right scaling (which Apple does on their own screens anyway). 1440P or 5K monitors already exist which also scale better. You don't need an Apple display at all.
My Lenovo 27” 2560x1440 is perfectly fine. I did have weird issues with variable refresh rate through my Thunderbolt hub, but an update solved that (it kept switching back to VRR for no reason, which the hub doesn’t support)
I have a macmini 2018 with the i7 and 16GB RAM, for the music creation……. It scares me how the machine gets noisy and hot when solving a bit more difficult tasks…… I can’t even imagine its behaviour with the much more powerful processor….😳…?
If the Lord doesn't come back first......planning on replacing my current late-2012 mini that I upgraded to SSD and 16 GB RAM. Still "decent" performance but starting to need rebooting about weekly or every two weeks due to spinning wheel slowdown..... Looking forward to the M4.
Waiting for an iMacPad 13" (seriously, i would love to carry an imac in the form of an ipad - in other words: Dear apple, give us an iPad running macOs. We dont care about touch sizes, we can touch very small areas I swear. And apple pencil is there for those momments you need fast and precision control over the clicks).
Again, the issue here is that releasing an M4 Pro Mini will cannibalise M4 Max Studio sales as each lower-spec device is better than the previous higher spec model and M4 Max will make the M4 Ultra hard to justify (unless they have a dedicated GPU die). They need to reverse the launch order to top-down.

same, mines the entry level 8gb too, I use it as a daily runner for web development, graphics editing and it even runs as a plex server 24/7 and tbh I cannot find a reason to upgrade at all, I personally never have RAM issues and never have, I think for most people (not gamers or the like!) an M2 is perfectly capable for Joe Average doing his daily online stuff and day to day work. I do have an OWC thunderbolt hub to give me extra ports and I store my data on an external 2tb SSD drive, which still worked out may cheaper than paying an Apple Tax for more Ram and allows me to keep enough free drive space for any potential file swapping that may be needed due to less RAM. I love apple silicon 🙂
I just bought an M2 with 16gb, upgrading from my 2014 Mac Mini. I’m betting I’ll be upgrading to the M10 someday. 😂
@@oneisnone7350 Haha! I came from the Mac mini 2014 too!
@@oneisnone7350 You sound like me, mine replaced a 2012 MacBook Pro, my base M2 Mac Mini is really decent, had I the spare cash then I'd have preferred 16GB but honestly 8BG works perfectly for me
Love to know a comparison between this one and the Mac Studio M1 Max, specifically for a video editor who does a lot of exporting.
that would be great, i think even the m4 full spect (non-pro) with enough ram will beat the old m1 max
@@andre__b That's what I'm wondering, if I should consider the Mini M4 Pro over my Studio Max M1.
The M4 mac mini (base and pro) will have better cpu and 3d rendering performance (such as blender) but in terms of raw graphics power the studio will be better. The only video tasks the mini will likely be better is prores
Apple's ARMs have seen a lot of growth recently. So have Max's.
Still amazed at how tight Apple is with a dime. 12 gig memory? Would it kill them to put in 16 gig of memory as base? How many apps are not going to fly with 12 gigs?
is it possible to compare to m1 max thanks
This sounds very promising. More TB4 ports are a game changer for me.
I just hope it will be smaller and thinner
The M4 Mac Mini will be my next computer. But I'll get the light gray one.
Hmm.. even as a tech professional I fail to get excited by this.
Thank you Amazon for your prime day deal of $479 for the base model m2 Mac mini! That was great and I am really enjoying that bang for the bucks!
How crazy would it be if made a 'desktop' version of the M4 with 6 performance and 4 efficiency cores? Then the Pro with 12 or even 14...
Base model performance will goo crazy f 12gb ram is standard
The rumors help to raise your views!!!!
I’d like to see a rundown of the leaks for the M4 Pro / M4 Max MBPs if there are any! Great video as always!
Still rocking a M1 Mac mini 16gb/512 and it’s still fast enough for everything I need.
Wait, there is some news about the M4 mini coming soon? Where'd you get that?
It's also going to be smaller apparently, supposedly almost half the size.
We need 12Gb base RAM. 8Gb has been base since 2015, which is insane. If they increase RAM and put in an M4, it will drive a major upgrade cycle.
I’m hoping this means we’ll see a mac mini capable of supporting (3) 5k studio displays. That’s my wish. 🤞🏾
i think than you would need more display engines, not only more thunderbolt controller... and apple will not do you the favour for the small money
I have a macmini 2018 with the i7 and 16GB RAM, for the music creation…….
It scares me how the machine gets noisy and hot when solving a bit more difficult tasks……
I can’t even imagine its behaviour with the much more powerful processor….😳…?
This is 2x as fast as my Core i9 9900K. Finally I can upgrade and :probably:? feel it ;)
If the Lord doesn't come back first......planning on replacing my current late-2012 mini that I upgraded to SSD and 16 GB RAM. Still "decent" performance but starting to need rebooting about weekly or every two weeks due to spinning wheel slowdown..... Looking forward to the M4.
NEXT VIDEO: 5 REASONS WHY WE WERE WRONG ABOUT M4 MAC MINI 😂
😂😂😂 it will come... it's a standard
Why do you watch these videos?
I didn't watch them no more
Nope
Almost Apple haters have a secret... They didn't tried ever a Apple product
Still happy with an M1 Pro
Think I’ll wait till the M5
The GPU cores just need to be able to do 1080p 60
IM UPGRADE TO THAT MAC MINI FROM THE 2019 MACBOOK THANKS
its soooo worth man hope the best for you
The mac studio has a fatal flaw, it's difficult to clean out the dust. I sold my mac studio because I was worried about the dust.
The base with 12GB definitely will help, combing with EDU savings and GC savings, we have a deal. I hope SSD starts with 512GB as well/.
Dang, I've been wanting an apple silicon mac mini for years now, maybe it's time to buy in, except the price is probably gonna be really annoying
Sticking with my m1 studio max base model…
The new models for the neuroengine will need 16 GB if you use them all. Perhaps there are some special models going with 12, we will see.
I’m hoping the bigger thunderbolt area is for thunderbolt 5
MacBook Air will be insane for m4
Most wanted for me is a SFP+ Port for 10Gbe
My m1 mac mini 8gb I use every day for work. I have chrome & FF with multiple tabs, vs code, it is okay, no perfect but its m1 8gb :)
Super excellent review
Using the m2 pro, pretty happy so far
I just bought the M2 Pro version and I love it. It’s fast enough. Not upgrading. 😊
These major changes are more applicable to M4 macs in general rather than Mac Mini itself apart from the new color.
6 displays on the pro would finally be enough for me
4 usb c/ tb plot ?
Will Apple make this machine power by usb c ?
Sorry, I can only hype for the iMac Pro 32"
36GB memory isn't enough for running bigger local LLM inference models, M2 Max MacStudio barely catches breath with 64GB memory
Waiting for an iMacPad 13" (seriously, i would love to carry an imac in the form of an ipad - in other words: Dear apple, give us an iPad running macOs. We dont care about touch sizes, we can touch very small areas I swear. And apple pencil is there for those momments you need fast and precision control over the clicks).
hopefully I can still make use of my 2005 30" AppleCinemaDisplay without an additional adapter!
I love mi MacBook Pro m1 with Touch Bar, I hope soon out a Mac with that
If the Mini gets more ports, I wonder if that means the Studio will also get more ports?
Wonder if i should wait for M5.
I need to buy one of these but I _need_ it to support Linux with full hardware support. Damn it Apple!
Base model performance will goo crazy f 12gb ram is stano
Bro i get totally get your enthusiasm, but as you know apple being apple "who do not give a damn about their customers anymore" is still gonna charge more money for less base model features, and convince them that this a breakthrough with their products. Apple has become the most successful marketing company.
