So many Westerners in China now, its great to add China to the vacation possibilities. I love the huge vegetable and seafood selection. I was surprised to see edible jellyfish, i would love to try it.
This was interesting having a look around food area.
The veggie and seafood options is definitely the highlight of the grocery stores here. I love it so much. You should try it. I enjoyed jellyfish way more than I expected 😊
I ate jelly fish a lot when I was a kid, my father came from Shanghai and we live in Hong Kong. Jelly fish is so yum.

dragon foods have red or white fresh 2 type. Durian is expensive but is considered king of all fruits in Asean countries
Personally I like the red flesh more. Durian is pretty good, I do prefer jackfruit though
toon is not actually vegetable, but the young leaves of the toon tree. therefore, it is usually only in spring that you can have fresh toon leaves.
China is a big country with a large population and rich products

Do you guys have any plans doing a trip video in different parts of China, e.g. Dongbei, Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang, Tibet, Yunan, Hainan. I noticed that most people settle in the eastern coast because economic opportunities, but the outer rims don't get much attention.
We definitely will. Not sure when exactly though. But dongbei is a given since that's where Jiayi is from 😊

It is actually not cost-effective to buy ingredients and cook your own meals in China. Ordering takeout is convenient, fast and cheap.
They are the best! Also, I think we follow each other over on station B 🌸
@thevoiceoftaiwan cooking at home is way cheaper. Always eating takeout is also unhealthy and you can't control how much sodium and oil you'll be consuming

Those long white yams are heavenly with a very simple pork stew. They are expensive in Taiwan and I still miss them terribly back in the Philippines.

If you think a durian is stinky, then you need to accustomize your smell sense to it by having a durian in your house so you smell it everyday for a couple or few months until your brain re-wires itself to be able to distinctly identify the smell of a durian. Then you will see the light of what a durian really smells like, and you will not be able to stop eating durians because it is that good.
That's interesting advice. I like durian but it's definitely a calorie bomb, so I don't eat it that often
@@jiayiandjulieinchina I just make sure that I exercise enough that I don't worry about what and how much I eat. But the one thing I would avoid an excess of is sugar and caffeine.

Pig feet were usually stew in Chinese cooking and they are delicious! There is lots of lean meat in the feet just eat the lean meat which is succulent & flavourful!
I'm not a huge fan personally. I find it too oily and fatty
@@jiayiandjulieinchina Pig feet and chicken feet used to be more food for women because they contain a large amount of collagen, which helps maintain skin health. In fact, pig feet do not have much fat, they are just skin collagen. Don't believe that cosmetics can supplement collagen, it's better to have a bowl of pig foot soup.

Chinese children likes jellyfish because it like rubberbands just playful and taste good (of course with seasoning)😅
As a western i would recommend buy your own breadbaker or airfryer if you don't have a oven, because finding non sweet western bread is difficult. Luckily the yeast is cheap and you get a full bag of it. Dry yeast is good enough, chinese wheat flour is cheap as the west. Just mix the wheat flour with water untill its a bit sticky (In china you use bottle water, not tap water). when its sticky mix some yeast into it, add some more wheat flour to knead. At the very last moment add a pinch of salt to it not more than 1 or 2 gr of the total weight of the dough. Never mix salt directly with yeast, because yeast is a living organism and it will die off when contact with yeast. knead it horizontal, turn sideways and knead again. Do this process for more than 5 minutes, carefully tuck the top sides to the bottom of the dough to make a round circle ball. Let it rest in a plastic container with a cloth over it to prevent it from drying, for about 1 to 3 hours depending on how warm the environment is. After 1 to 3 hours if you see the dough soft and risen, take it out and press it to take make it flat again, this time just knead 1 time to a circle ball again and let it rest in plastic container with cloth over it for about 30 minutes. After 30 minutes this circle ball dough you either carefully put it in oven or make it flat to make pizza.
I know its a lot of info, but i studied bread and pastry in the past. so making your own bread its not that difficult.
The best part is you can either put the dough in refrigerator for about 1 day or freeze it for couple of weeks. Freezing is not that fresh, but its still good and tastier than your frozen store bought pizza.
Unfortunately there are so many of them that are closing because they just can't compete with the online market, that goes for malls and other shops too
