    Excellent teaching practices, Yvan! A great teacher makes sure that they give the student the tools to be successful from the start. The fact that Emily (a fantastic student, by the way!) was already enjoying the satisfaction of learning and making major improvement before the lesson was even over... that level of teaching requires such deep knowledge of the field that you could relate it to just about anyone with any background, and guide them to proficiency in a such a way that they'll never doubt their ability to master the skill with practice. Instilling that kind of confidence so quickly is what every teacher should strive for, and you do it as well as anyone I've ever seen. Kudos to both of you, and thank you for setting the bar so high for quality detailing content on RUclips.

I've had my fair share of challenges with the rotary becuase " I" was Polishing AND NOT letting the machine do the work. I'm gona go home today and but out my Milwaukee Rotary and practice what I just saw. Thank you Soo Much for putting out this content... As a Detailer I REALLY APPRECIATE IT!!!! 👍🏽🙏🏽

    I have watched so many "Tutorials"!!! on polishing and they all say a beginner has to use a DA. My wax supplier here in Glasgow always tells me that his Rotary is his go to tool for polishing and I tell him I am a total novice so I tell him it is a DA for me. Maybe I should listen to him and try a Rotary. Sometimes I think detailers on RUclips try to scare us so that no more detailers go down the route of polishing and steal work away from them. This was the best Tutorial on polishing I have ever watched. Thanks again.

    I’ve been trying to master my rotary, to a point where, I couldn’t do it. Hung it back up and continued with my DA. This video has showed me where I’ve been going wrong. Less grip is best results. All of the jumping around has been because of being too tight on the machine, which is where the DA wants to be, where it rotates and oscillates. I’ll give the rotary another outing in the spring and see if I can finally master it. Thanks for such a good video tutorial 👍🏻

    Would using a slightly dripping microfibre cloth that’s be dunked in your rimless then gently held against the waffle pad as you spin it up for a second or 2 work with both cleaning and making the waffle pad damp rather than keep removing it from the backing plate.
    Also for those who are looking into polishing a vehicle, I can strongly recommend getting a test panel from a scrap yard to help you get use to the feel of your machine polisher

What I mean is his pad is waffle like but when you look at options there are tons more flat with straight lines through them. Which one is better, his type puts less surface area on panel is this a safer option also thinking less heat? Or is there nearly no difference between this or the straight line groove ones?

What’s a good slightly more aggressive polish for a beginner to use if you want to do a two-step process instead of just one real light polish?
    next time I do a ceramic coating, I’ll probably do it two-step to make sure and remove some of the light swirls.

    If you professionally fell trees for a living, you must be perfectly comfortable using a full-sized chainsaw everyday, although you have other complimentary cutting tools. The fuel-operated huge chainsaw is still your primary tool of the trade.
    Identically, any genuine professional detailer’s main tool of the trade is the Rotary Buffer.
    Stay away from those who want money from you to cut your big old trees but shy away from using real chainsaws.
    You can kill a moose using a pistol. But if you’re a genuinely pro hunter, you must surely be a master in using a rifle of any caliber.
    Thank you to Monsieur Lacroix the patient and professional detailing GURU for taking the time to create such a wonderful video and being such a great trainer👍 The industry needs more of such luminaries in professional detailing.

    I know why people burn through the paint with rotary polishers because I've done it 20 years ago. We was using a makita with a very fluffy wool pad on the highest speed but the problem was the paint was not factory but it was brand new. As in a week or two. So the paint isn't even close to being cured, the polisher is on the highest setting, and we was using the wrong pad and cutting compound. Some cutting compounds are very abrasive. We was doing this for a showroom finish. We has completely wet sanded the entire paint and got every single fish eye and orange peel out. But if you hit the edge of a hood of a freshly painted vehicle with what I just described, I guarantee that it will burn right through. Aftermarket paint is never as tough as factory just as Yvan has said several times in his videos

      I use a wool pad and heavy cut on paint only a few hours old at the body shop when the painter over bakes the cars and gets solvent popping on the surface of the paint.
      Yes, it's very possible to wool pad and heavy cut on fresh paint but you also have to watch edges or even throw tape on that tricky edge to protect it if needed. 20 cents worth of tape is better than $200-300 of new paint and the embarrassment of the whole bodyshop knowing you burned through. We all can and do make mistakes, even after polishing for 34 years but we try to minimize those days 😂
      As you get experienced you learn where you can go, and how you need to hold the machine for different edges or directions, especially transisioning lines . When your new, you don't know where your WHOLE pad is, as much so tape is more important than ever.

      Yes it is! We prefer to wipe with a short nap towel, barely damp from your Rinseless Wash bucket, to remove polish. @diydetailofficial guys how often do you wash the pads when are cutting/polishing? Is there any rule about that?
    And does your golden spray leave a protective seal like wax ? Or after polishing should I apply wax or something like that?
    Thanks so much you are a legend guys 🤙🏽

      @diydetailofficial  3 месяца назад

      The rule is simple, never put clean polish on a dirty pad, meaning clean it before applying polish.
      DIY Detail Gold Standard Polish is a pure abrasive, it has no protection and leaves nothing on the surface

      I'd skip the clay on a newer car if it feels smooth...they do scratch the paint some. I prefer to clean with varsol for tar or methyl hydrate for tree sap (a type ofalcohol from hardware paint section) before ever pulling out a clay bar.

    Is it safe to say to just use a polish on micro scratches and no compounds? I plan on keeping my vehicle a long time and don't think compounds are a wise decision. I recently bought a 2021 Ford Expedition Black and it has some micro scratches. You almost can not see them unless you look closely.

      Correct, compounding is like using a sledgehammer to drive a finishing nail.

    The missing info for me is I want to know how long do we work on the section per one spray of compound. How do we know when to stop? I have a DA brand new but I've never used it, now I'm searching for the rotary one, although I might try to use the Ryobi sander instead 🤭

    Hey, what is the best procedure to prime a pad in Europe, since your gold standard polish is not available yet. I have found on other channels a technique that is called "pick up a bead", where you basically put a straight line of polish on the car and then pick it up with rotary running and then you start polishing. Would you recommend this over the 5 or so dots on the pad? I appreciate the answer, and have a great day!

    • @diydetailofficial
      @diydetailofficial  10 месяцев назад +1

      Picking up a bead was popular in the 70’s, but uses too much product. Just dampen your pad with DIY Detail Rinseless Wash.
      For the EU, our list of distributors is growing.

    (Hope to get better results since my previous attempt was with DA polisher and it didnt cut as I was expecting…)

    • @broken2550

      I don’t think you should buy a whole new polisher unless the dual action wasn’t very good. Maybe buy a Maxshine m8s as a da but if you had a sort of cheaper one the experience could be different due to quality as well as the polish and compound or one step polish you used. As well as if you washed the car properly and decontaminated it before. And usually they add wax and sealent to make it shine so just make sure your analyzing everything before investing more of your money

    • @FranciscoFernandes-zu5dq
      @FranciscoFernandes-zu5dq 11 месяцев назад

      @@broken2550thanks for the tips! I am using a reasonable DA machine (not high end as flex or rupes but it is between low-mid range), so maybe my technique is not great.. I used wool rupes pads the blue and yellow and polish was Scholl S20 black. Also tried Meguiars Compound first step and Meg Polish for second step. My car is an audi so maybe it is because of the type of clear coat which is thick and requires a rotary for cutting such deep scratches.

    • @FranciscoFernandes-zu5dq
      @FranciscoFernandes-zu5dq 11 месяцев назад

      Regarding prep I know that is key and did quimical and mechanical decon with claybar and proper pre-wash and after polishing also proper wash with panel prep before applying ceramic coating. I think i removed 70-80% of the scratches but since it is a black car is more obvious when you look at it.. 😑

    • @FranciscoFernandes-zu5dq
      @FranciscoFernandes-zu5dq 11 месяцев назад

      As I love detailing I would love to remove almost 90-95% of the scratches but I know that sometimes it is not possible… will try rotary and improve my technique on DA too.

    • @broken2550
      @broken2550 11 месяцев назад

      @@FranciscoFernandes-zu5dq I have a Maxshine m8s dual action it cost me like 90$ and it came with 3 pads and a one step polish. It works pretty great for me it came with a red polishing pad, blue cutting and a yellow medium pad I believe as well as a one step polish. I’ve only worked on quite oxidized paint so the results are extremely clear so I couldn’t give any specific advice but test out certain things. Maybe you still have sealent or wax that is not letting the polish actually work into the paint and clear coat. Maybe your using to little or maybe your are being to fast or to slow. Try it out. And if you really feel the need for the new machine then go for it.
