People who look down at him saying that he got 700+ wickets in 188 tests compared to Murali, Warne & Kumble who did it in fewer tests. But don't forget that spinners bowl a lot more balls than pacers worldwide either a holding role or especially in sub continent. So if we compare the balls bowled by all these legends then we see the greatness of Jimmy... So the balls bowled were (44039 balls 800 wickets Murali) (40850 balls 619 wickets Kumble) (40705 balls 708 wickets Warne) (40037 balls 704 wickets Anderson)

tbh it doesn't really matter what the moaners think, Jimmy was UNIQUE and delivered so much above and beyond for more years than the whingers will still be children in their heads.

Faster strike rate with the new ball, no way? These half baked stats to mark up a solid bowler

Who is comparing him to other spinners though, the comparison is to do with his skill compared with the likes of Marshall, McGrath, Steyn and Akram

The amazing thing is Jimmy ,never lost his passion for test matches and bowling ,even at age of 41.
    This is unheard of.
Amazing swing bowler ,who left an impression on world cricket

Gus Atkinson seems to be a very very nice guy.He just does not show any emotion and even when he gets a wicket, he just smiles a bit and nothing else.

Guys, I still strongly believe that James Anderson should have been allowed to play the full series against West Indies. With 704 wickets, if he had played the series, he could have beaten the all-time greatest number of 708. It would have cemented his status as the greatest bowler ever... What a shame!

708 wickets is the 2nd most and held by Shane Warne. Muralidaran holds the record at 800 wickets.

-Thank you for the reminder and briefing, which @vibecitypriyanshu has highlighted excellently below. Still, it's my belief that Jimmy should have been given the opportunity to climb above the great Sharne Warne!

I think Anderson should have played until the end of the summer and bowed out at The Oval (still iconic although admittedly not on a par with the home of cricket). I don’t really see how England have gained doing it this way. He would have gone past Warne but remember that’s only in terms of tally. No current bowler (spinner or otherwise) is as great as Warne. He was never going to realistically reach 800 so finishing 2nd or 3rd makes no real difference. It’s still a medal 🥉 at least😄

The real like-for-like Anderson replacement is Sam Cook. He deserves a chance with the new ball in this set-up, accompanied by Atkinson, Wood, Olly Stone (if fit), Potts and Tongue on rotation.

Jimmny is classed as a swing bowler .. his best ball was at 91mph .. thats a fast bowling!! Jimmy is not just a swing bowler ! He has been the master off line and length and going for no runs when the ball is doing nothing! Jimmy needs respect for when he tied down a end , going for no runs and letting the likes off Broad and stokes take wickets due to Jimmy making his end a maiden the over before! Jimmy has been incredible! Any one remember when they wanted to change his action.. as he looked down when he released the ball ..

The ICC need to be held accountable for the approach to the way the money is split, it will kill cricket as a competitive sport, funding should be equal otherwise it will continue to get more and more uneven and there will only be three decent sides in all formats.

Anderson was lucky to start his career when the shorter formats of the game weren’t that frequently played. As a result he could reach his numbers. For folks who started in the recent years play multiple formats so can’t really concentrate on tests only.

Mike Atherton's insights on connections resonate deeply with me. I was 13 when James Anderson debuted, and as a fellow fast bowler, I initially found him a bit expensive. However, he transformed during the 2010-11 Ashes, by which time I had already abandoned dreams of playing cricket at the highest level in India. Now, at 35, I still play for a local league team, incorporating skills I learned from watching Anderson. I’ve always admired him, perhaps more than any other fast bowler. I watched every ball of his farewell Test against the West Indies, sharing the experience of following Anderson and his ever improving career with my 6-year-old son, likely his first memory of learning about a cricketer.

Treated dreadfully. Should have been given the series and allowed to go out at OT. I was at Lords and the quietness is no way for him to go out.
I hate to see a legend of the game being forced to retire. He should have been given a second option of no retirement test but being able to make himself available for selection and if he's in the best XI he's picked.
What's most galling is how the media establishment are giving Key and Stokes an easy ride and pretending everything is OK.
