In my 53 years of listening to music, I’ve never loved a band as much as I do with Babymetal. I have no idea why but they touch my heart in so many of their songs and this performance of one of my favourite songs is definitely one of them. Maybe it’s because they started so young and fought against so much criticism that I feel like a proud Dad every time I watch them succeed. They are truly amazing.
@tedkaboom2406 💯 Never been so entranced by any entertianment as BABYMETAL. Watching them from pre-teen idols at SG to today, I am happy they forged their path and we were along for their journey. So proud of them..
53yr old, dismissed them at time as not metal without listening...what an idiot and how much i missed. refound them recently and Love them,, also get the proud fam feeling. Su's voice!
Great reaction, thanks! This is an extremely beautiful version of an already beautiful song. Yes, I love seeing this close how Su works her technique here. It's something you can't get to see in a live performance because a number of things are happening at the same time. 🤘🦊
what makes this so good is the fact of it being for the channel The First Take. they bring in singers to do a song in one take only so this is in one take to do this performance. Su is so good. and if you read a lot of their lyrics they are so positive and uplifting. Su to me is the only singer for me that i listen to and feel emotions. her voice can touch your soul. others have recommended some more songs so i won't add to that. Su is one of a kind performer and to me no one else even comes close.
Welcome back to the Foxhole and BabyMetal's metalverse 🦊🤘🌐 BM fans already know this type of unique acoustic version like Akatsuki Unfinished Version live at Legend 1997 or "The One - Stairway To Living Legend", so we're used to this SuMetal's vocals power to reach and melting our hearts. Fans at the recent World Tour 2023/2024 were enjoying the original version of this song at every show and having a magical moment, pretty sure this weekend they're gonna play this song rocking out the crowd. The three white figures dressed in white are probably a reference to old BM era when YuiMetal was still part of the group or maybe a reference to the new young BM unit they previously performed along with them and are part of this new metalverse project, they already debut at Summer Sonic Festival opening the festival with a set of new three songs exclusive for them and after that a series of live concerts. When they released this Piano Version the new official member MomoMetal wasn't announced yet, that's why you only see the two of them, after the official announcement they released another acoustic version of a song called "The One - Unfinished Version" and they included MomoMetal, the new official member in it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this and see you next time.🦊🤘🌈
Nice reaction. Years ago, Moa said when Su sings it's like an angel came down. This performance they both sang like angels. They always had talent but more and more they show the skills that comes with age. They've traveled the world and learned a lot. Babymetal is a force all to itself. A hallmark of many Babymetal lyrics is the strong positive uplifting message and this song is no exception to that. When this song comes on, I do "Just Smile".
Excellent, such a beautiful version of an already beautiful song ... Su and Moa (with Moa supported with lovely harmonies by the three backing vocalists in the "oh oh oh") are incredible. Su-metal did an acoustic (unfinished) version of her solo song 'Akatsuki' at the Legend 1997 concert for her 16th birthday in Dec 2013. Watch the full version from Budokan Black Night from 2014 first, then the unfinished version ... they will each hit you in different ways.
Am I the only one wondering why the 3 girls in white holding hands remind me of Yui Moa and Su together! I do not know the meaning behind the song but it feels like they are reminiscing! I am nearly 60 and kind of fell out of love with music then a friend sent me a Babymetal video (Give Me Chocolate) there is something so warming about these girls, do not get me wrong the band that backs them is some of the best musicians I have ever heard but these girls are so special so let us all keep these girls safe
That's what it made me think of too. There was some imagery in the Monochrome lyrics video that just made me think of the three of them and I just found tears on my face without realizing it. I miss you, Yui-chan. 🍅🌹❤️
Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。In this first take version, the girls proved that they can do anything. They have forced people to headbang with their heavy music and sharp choreo. Now they can depict various images by just singing and project them into the listeners' brain to move people emotionally. Thank you BABYMETAL. And thank you Koba, the BM producer, for your serendipity. Some 14 years ago, you certainly discovered something amazing and sacred for us. Speaking of the three figures in white hood adding some background vocals, I believe they are homage to BM's girlhood with original three girls, whereas current reborn BM have new and matured triangle formation.
@@flugelhornoldman1362 I’m jealous of your ability to attend. I don’t have the English vocabulary to describe how wonderful Babymetal is. Enjoy the festival. Oh one more thing. Please give a shout for Li-SA-X and Polyphia (hometown band).
Yes this version explicitly places Su on the Spotlight like now the whole Colabs do. She has now her adult voice and can do with itvwhat she wants. Blast past a whole metal Band or harmonize with everything that needs it. Together wit zhe Rest of their voices they have a potential that is unique in zhe whole industry. They have no own Band that could moan if they are not used if they play with other bands. And I think thatbis a reason why they obviously don't have any problems with gatekeepers at the Moment.
While, yes Monochrome is and AMAZING song, there are other songs that are right up there in terms of perfection. It can be a little hard to pinpoint which ones as everybody's tastes are different, but for me personally, their best songs that always leave an impression on me when it hear them are Monochrome, Shine (but if you do shine, you HAVE to do the trilogy of light, which is Starlight, Shine, and then Arkadia as they as songs that about about the stages of grief and the songs were released around the time that Babymetal not only lost their lead guitarist from an accident and the poor man died, R.I.P Mikio Fujioka, but also Yuimetal left the band due to health reasons. This was a big hit for the girls and it was a bit of a dark time for them), No Rain No Rainbow Baptism XX Legend S, and Akatsuki Unfinished (I'd recommend checking out Akatsuki afterwards too. The Unfinished version is similar to this version of Monochrome, just strings and Su, so you get to really hear Su's voice except at that time she was only 16). In my opinion, those songs are all on about the same level of perfection.
I love this song. Both versions are amazing. Another recommendation I have for you would be Akatsuki Budokan Black Night. I believe it was 2014, but I may be wrong. A young Sumetal absolutely killed it!
To me, this song feels like a prayer....😇 I feel that the three in white symbolize the BABYMETAL of a bygone era, who have worked hard with their small hands held together.😭
Su really is the queen of metal. How her vocals have evolved and gotten stronger over the years has been something else. You mentioned that you've mainly been sticking to the live performances. I would recommend checking out the studio versions of some songs as well and taking a look at the music videos. They do show a different side of BabyMetal and are a lot of fun to watch. Notable MV's would be Megitsune, Metali, Karate and Iine.
It's awesome to me how this and the original really feel like two completely different songs! Both incredible. Yes, hearing their raw voices without all the heavy metal is truly an experience! They are masters of their craft, and this hits me emotionally every time!
Great reaction. Try not to ignore alternate versions of songs, Babymetal have many standout alternate takes, plus over 12 years Su-metal's voice has evolved so much ❤🦊🤘
Nice reaction. Actually it's a sad song as you may know SU-METAL was born in hiroshimah, The song is about the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, If you watch the monochrome official video you can see that they show the city and later the destroyed city, Su sing about RAGNAROK which represents, The fate of the gods (death and destruction)
One idiosyncrasy about Japanese popular music is that they really love clear vocals (regardless of pitch or age) when it comes to female singers. Su just happens to shine with it while fronting a metal act. Between the end of Karen Girl's & the launch of Sakura Gakuin, the young Suzuka did two stints in musical theater (the stage play "Adventurers" 冒険者たち; RUclips has the full upload) with an otherwise all-male cast. That's probably how her singing style evolved the way it did. For emotional whammy, I'm recommending something offbeat: 'Nada sou sou' 涙そうそう, which has a crossover hit across Asia during Y2K decade, & one of the earliest when RUclips was still nascent. Balladeer Rimi Natsukawa's cover version (2001) went viral, spending about 6 years on the charts & inspiring an eponymous movie (2006, a standard idol tearjerker but the real-life personal photos in the end-credits segment will have you bawling). Co-songwriters Ryoko Moriyama (folk singer) & BEGIN (folk-rock band) had previously self-released it in 1998 & 2000 respectively. All 3 studio versions, each musically different, are fantastic. Search the following keywords: 日本Japanese touched movie-Nada Sousou part 12 - End (movie end credits with English subs) Tears for You (涙そうそう) (2006) - Nada Sou Sou (涙そうそう) (official movie MV with English subs) 夏川りみ「涙そうそう」Music Video (Rimi Natsukawa MV) BEGIN/涙そうそう(ビギン15周年記念公園)(BEGIN 2020 live version) 森山良子(Moriyama Ryoko) - 涙そうそう(nada sousou) (Ryoko Moriyama 2004 live version with personal photos) No need to react to them. Just have fun appreciating its poignancy in private. Cheers.

I would guess the 3 singers in the back are called "the avengers" or something? They were 3, who shared Yui's spot last years, until Momo became permanent a year ago. So I would assume the 3 are Momo, Riho and Kano?
This after not too long after Yui left. It’s suppose to be Su, Moa, and Yui with Yui in the middle holding their hands. You can tell it’s supposed to be Su on the right because of her height.
