To be fair he attacked Snape to his face and Snape himself did nothing wrong in the shack and likely could have been reasoned with, if they just gave each other time to breath. Hermione was trying to save her friend from being unlived by the said teacher.
One thing I love about Dean, is that we're told repeatedly that he's "good with a quill" -- he does the blanket design in harry's first quidditch match, as well as offers to forge Vernon's signature for harry's hogsmeade letter... I LOVE these small details which carry over!!
It really makes you wonder what they do with the used snitches, like, is there just a big bucket full of them somewhere in the castle? Or did Dumbledore hear that Harry swallowed the snitch and then go and immediately retrieve it thinking "Oh boy, I gotta make sure I keep this thing safe in case I ever need to deliver something to Harry in the weirdest way possible."
I have a feeling Dumbledore just used his headmaster’s authority to say “yea i want to keep that snitch actually” and they just pull out a new one for the rest of the year. Maybe they even play with a new snitch for every year, i dont think that would be totally implausible either.
@@winterwine460 they play with different Snitch every match. It's really minimal cost for the school probably, with only having dozen of matches every year.
Perfect plot for a Harry Potter sports movie: after the war, Harry, Hermione and the Weasley's buy the Chudley Cannons for Ron for his birthday. The movie then follows Ron as he turns the Cannons from a laughing stock of a team, into the premier British quidditch team.
You could do a whole "Flying With The Cannons" movie; the Chudley Cannons are the perpetual underdog, plus the favorite of at least two major characters, Ron and Dumbledore. Show them earning themselves a big win in typical sports-movie fashion. I'd totally watch that.
How they’ve not done anything Quidditch related since the PS2 game (as far as I know) is insane to me, I feel like they could make some really solid 30 minute short stories within the wizarding world but not over saturate it like Disney did with starwars or marvel & make it not special anymore
And they could totally have present day Ron and Ginny make a cameo at the finally. Ginny covering the match for the Daily Prophet and Ron tagging along with his sister because he's a huge fan. And have some duel scenes with members of opposing teams trying to sabotage them as they noticably get better. The final match against the Tornadoes. I'm down for this idea. Update: HUGO GRANGER-WEASLEY AS THE NEW MEMBER THAT BRINGS THEM VICTORY!!! Movie ends with Hugo being accepted to play for England in the Quidditch World Cup.
For the remake series, it would be great if they included all of Harry's dreams, which would include the flying motorcycle dream, the dream he's having before Ron, George, and Fred arrive in the flying Ford Anglia to take him to the Burrow, etc.
I like to think the only way they can get the fans on their side when remaking the series is to be super loyal to the books. Same with Percy Jackson. Crossing my fingers
@@putnamfranklinyeah, I am cautiously optimistic about the series but feel it is too soon to re-explore that era of the Wizarding World. I would have rather started with either rebuilding the castle or something like a Founder’s series.
@@MHruskamusicI think it’s too early too, hasn’t been that long in the grand scheme of things since the last movie & last book, HP fans haven’t had much luck since the last movie, cursed child stage play/book & fantastic beasts movies were pretty bad, remakes and reboots haven’t been good in the last ten years either. Very nervous about this show.
11/17 chapter down, 6 to go. After that, we begin Chamber of Secrets, which is 18 chapters long. It's not taking 17 weeks, it's taking 15. You dropped 3 episodes in the first week. You guys are amazing, and these episodes are both informative and entertaining at the same time. Keep the amazing content coming.
The bluebell flames thing that they were worried about getting in trouble for, I always interpreted that as it being a spell that Hermione created, rather than something she learned from a book or soemthing. It is her signature, and we never see anybody else cast it (except for a semi-canonical appearance in one of the video games), and the way they proudly talk about it makes it seem unique. The way magic is regulated I imagine that creating your own spells is frowned upon, although it of course has been known to happen as we later see with Levicorpus and Sectumsempra, so that would certainly explain why they were worried about getting in trouble if a teacher saw her doing it.
Make it fairly gritty & in a serious tone and make the audience take it seriously & also give the fans what they want since the complete let down of the World Cup in the goblet of fire movie…can’t believe the set up to that match with absolutely no pay off
Granted he is only three months old, but one of the parenting things that I am looking forward to is sharing Harry Potter with him for the first time. So I can see him discover all of the secrets and twists for the first time.
Keep your excitement high and your expectations low. My kid loves reading Harry Potter at night, yet he only likes it for the connection between him and I. He ignores whats happening in the book all too often.
Going off what someone else said also be prepared for your kid to just not like Harry Potter at all, it’s unlikely but it does happen, parents introduce their kids to something they like and their kids aren’t into it. Not saying it’s going to happen or even likely to happen but it does happen.
37:19 Regarding no adult being there when something bad is happening to Harry, the biggest exception I can think of is when Moody/Crouch Jr catches Malfoy trying to curse Harry… which is funny, because it’s a VILLAIN who saves him. 😂
Something just occurred to me. In an earlier video you asked why nobody asked moaning Mertle how she died. I'm wondering if maybe it's just very offensive to ask a ghost how they died, hence Nick getting annoyed when asked "how can you be nearly headless?"
I always thought he was annoyed because the question was kinda skeptical? Like, it was implying he was lying about being nearly headless. It's asked like, you're either headless or you aren't
I haven't reread the books in a while and I now find it kinda crazy how you guys are most of the way through the book, but there is still so much to happen. Dragons, the haunted forest, all the challenges. Seems like a lot is going to happen in the next few weeks.
I like how they use the scenes in the movie where they made it look like Snape tried to get past fluffy better than in the book. It makes more sense because you would've seen something like that happen in the heat of the moment any kind of weird thing.
Yeah it’s far better set up in the movie & it makes you assume at least for me I assumed snape is just caught by the leg on his way out once he realises Quirrell isn’t in there
@@bruhdon4748 yeah, the way it was visual portray it for both the audience and Harry to put it together was so smooth. We may think at first no big deal but later on on it saves so much time.
I just have to say: I love the studio setup, and also I think the portrait behind Ben should be a concealed screen so that the guy in it moves, like in actual Wizarding World portraits. How fun would that be! :D
I imagine a teacher's lounge is a nice place for them to socialize Without students around. It may also be closer to their classrooms than their residences.
"A teacher's lounge is kind of a magical mythical place" LOL you've obviously never been in a teacher's lounge! As for the clunky parts...JK Rowling is such a master storyteller it's easy to forget this was her FIRST BOOK. Most first books never get out of the box under the bed let alone get published. You have pointed out multiple times there are things in this book that foreshadow happenings in books that won't be written for years. As a writer myself, I find this an incredible feat!
Everyday (except the weekends) I come home late from work and I play your podcast before going to bed. I fall asleep easily, in some way i feel like a kid again falling asleep when grandma was telling me stories. I miss you granny. Hopefully we will see each other again....
As far as the Quidditch points go, it would seem to me that they do receive the points outright from the final score, because when Harry, Hermione, and Neville lose 150 points together, it is acknowledged that this would set them back all that they had gained from Quidditch.
Love this series. My 12 week old puppy, Clementine, calms down every time she hears your voices. I leave it playing while she sleeps. I think I’ve heard each episode, at least 10 times a piece. 😂
Loving the show! As far as Dumbledore’s horcrux awareness though; I could be wrong, but it was my understanding that when the diary was exposed, he already knew (or at least suspected) that form of magic. I think what the diary told him however, (by it not being guarded/treated more carefully by Lucius, and him almost casually slipping it to Ginny,) was that there were likely more than one.
When we got to the part where Fred and George were talking about his speech the year before, I immediately imagined Oliver interrupting Charlie’s captain speech with his own😂😂😂
It’s going to take just short of 3 years to complete all 7 books. Would you guys ever consider doing 2 a week? I’m enjoying it so much but I struggle between weeks to wait.
Yeah and the chances of it going on that long is iffy, I know they’re doing it this way because their dad only read them a chapter a week but goddamn it’s rough 😂
I have those little Quidditch through the ages and fantastic beasts books from when I was a kid too 😂 love this podcast btw, this is my first time commenting. But it makes my week every time a new episode comes out 😅
Heyyyy brother! I discovered your channel only recently and I already watched a lot of your theory videos which are great! I got very excited when you said a few weeks ago that you were going to start this podcast. I wanted to re-read the Harry Potter books anyway and now it's the perfect opportunity to read each chapter again to prepare for the next podcast episode! :D As someone who became a Harry Potter fan meinly because I wanted to see the trio grow up together, I re-read this chapter last week with particular interest in how the beginning friendship of the three was described here. It seems to me that Hermione has been fully integrated into the boys' friendship instantly after defeating the troll together. Actually I have a kind of head canon which takes place directly following the events of the previous chapter "Halloween", when the three say "Thank you" to each other and get plates for the meal. Here's how chapter "Halloween" ends in my head canon (instead of the last two sentences "But from that moment on, Hermione Granger became their friend. There are some thing you can't share without ending up liking each other, and knocking out a three-foot mountain troll is one of them."): Having filled their plates overly with beans, meat, potatoes and sweets, Harry and Ron sat down in the common room but, in silent agreement, left a free seat between them. None of the two started to eat, but they watched Hermione, who slowly filled her plate as well and then, with a small sigh, headed for a free seat in the corner. Harry looked at Ron who nodded, and both of them shouted simultaneousely. "Hermione! HERMIONE!" Hermione looked up surprised, as if she wasn't used to hear her name from someone other than a teacher in such a loud and friendly voice. When she saw the boys smiling and waving at her and pointing at the free seat between them, she looked as if she would burst into tears. She ran towards them, accidently knocking Lavender over and pouring her potatoes on Neville, and when she sat down between Harry and Ron, she looked like the happiest eleven-year-old girl in the world, because she knew she had found something that no rule, teacher or book in the world could ever give her.
Snape may be one of my favorite characters but it is my unbiased opinion that he is a complete badass. That's pretty much canon 😂 I highly doubt he _wouldn't_ have been able to heal his leg. He made Sectumsempra and the spell to heal those wounds. I like the theory that there's something in Fluffy's saliva that prevents magical healing. I also like to think he totally knew his robes were on fire, but his number one priority was making sure Harry was safe
About the flying brooms, you are forgetting that when Sirius gifted Harry his broom, the teachers dismounted it, explaining that they removed the enchantments it had on it to see if it had a trap enchantment. Which means that the broom has no particular flying capability, it is enchanted to fly. Similarly we have Sirius's motorcycle which again, was enchanted to fly and further enchanted to fight for the Battle of the 7 Potters. Also, Arthur Weasley has troubles with someone from middle east that was trying to sell flying carpets as a "family vehicle". Is safe to assume that those are also enchanted.
The three headed dog reference could also elude to the three horcruxes of Voldemort (Voldemort prime being kept alive by Quirrel, Harry and the tiara) in Hogwarts at that time. These also represent the three big issues of Snape's life: Voldemort, his hatred of James, and his desire to be the DADA professor but can't because Dumbledore can't lose him (this is assuming that the tiara is the holding place for the curse on the DADA position).
In "Order of the Phoenix," after Ron gets his new Cleansweep Eleven, Malfoy asks derisively, who would put a charm on that? He is more specific in the actual quote. My understanding from that and descriptions of the Firebolt and the Nimbus series with their special features, is that charms are used. This is reinforced by the fact that it is Flitwick who checks the Firebolt for jinxes. Does this preclude a broom having a core like a wand? No, not definitively, but if brooms have a core like a wand, why doesn't the broom choose the wizard? If JKR had a broom core in mind, I would expect at least some specific attention drawn to the similarity between brooms and wands in how well they work for the user. Both of Harry's brooms are bought for him. He never has a chance to try one out before it is bought for him and yet both work excellently for him from the outset.
What I like to think about the "Greek chappie" that sold Fluffy to Hagrid is that it's actually Hades himself in disguise. The Fantastic Beasts book references the Greek demigod hero Bellerophon (Who is a son of Poseidon) being the only one to successfully defeat the Chimera, so who knows, maybe the Greek gods do exist in some way in the HP universe.
Part of how I answered Dumbledore not directly confronting Quirell\ Voldemort is because of how little he knows. If all he has is the prophecy then I reckon he's more interested in trying to draw Voldemort out so that he ends up revealing some of his plans, and specifically how he never died\ came back, and he's comfortable enough in his own abilities that should he need to, he'd step in and deal with Voldy directly.
Yes, the broomstick defrosting is ??? I noticed the description: "lake like chilled steel." Hermione's blue flames in a jar is becoming characteristic as a skill like later Harry's use of Expelliarmus spell becomes his signature spell. Harry's conversations with Ron and Hermione about what Snape could be up to is the beginning of them being detectives, which fake Moody mentions in GoF if I remember correctly (book not in hand). Harry trying to empty his mind the night before the game preps the reader for same in OaP. Seamus putting ketchup on sausages--ick, LOL. (I've been to England and the sausages taste good but have a softer texture than the ones here and to me the taste doesn't make up for the texture). I wonder why the Quidditch match referees aren't Hogsmeade residents instead of students? I read this chapter last Sunday and my notes are from then :).
Against it only on my plate, lol...if my folks liked ketchup on their sausage, I'd make sure the ketchup bottle was on the table :). I do the cooking and do cook stuff I don't like but that my folks like...meaning I never eat pea salad but fix it for them (same goes for beets, lol).@@TheDanishGuyReviews
@@lisacox4984 Beets I get. I personally think their taste is too sharp against potatoes to be served with them. But l think you could have gotten some bad ketchup to not like it. Some of the cheap stuff can be nasty, and l say that as a ketchupholic.
Yep, beets are too sharp. I do like ketchup on other stuff; I put ketchup plus olive oil plus Italian herbs on homemade pizza last night (tried a biscuit-style crust...needs some tweaking but good when don't have yeast).@@TheDanishGuyReviews
I had the same thought about Snape's leg. You'd think he'd at least be able to make some sort of healing potion for it. A Quidditch Through The Ages movie/tv series would be so fun!
So happy to up to date with this podcast. Got busy with my sister and her seven kids for the past couple of weeks but have finally caught back up. Keep up the good work dudes. Can’t wait for next week.
The quaffle is more than just a mundane ball - it has a gripping charm on it so that the chasers can catch and throw one-handed more easily. I believe this detail comes from Quidditch through the ages.
50:08 but Dumbledore doesn't completely stay out of the Harry vs Voldy fight - he actively goes looking for horcruxes and destroys the one in the ring. He's happy for Harry to have a go at piecing the puzzle together, but that doesn't mean he won't have a crack at Voldemort himself if the opportunity arises, like in the Dept of Mysteries.
For Snape not being able to heal his own wounds, all other instances is him performing countercurses, that we know he is good at, healing is likely a different sort of magic
But vulnera sanentur IS a healing spell. I don't understand why it shouldn't work on any other wound. Therefore I agree with the speculation that Fluffy's bit is different from a normal dog.
I will admit that at the age of 11, when I first read this book, I had never heard of a philosopher's stone. However, it is mentioned in quite a lot of media.
I remember reading this book the first time, and this was the only book, to this day, that I’ve read in one day…and I read a lot of books. I was just so sucked in!!
I love listening both of your podcasts on monday when I start working. Just relistened the first 10 episodes of this one and can't wait the time when I can binge more of them!
I think that line of the prophecy 50:12 just means that neither Harry nor Voldemort can LIVE (rest deeply, be happy…) while the other is still breathing
Speaking of Voldemort being on the back of Quirrell's head, would he show up on the Marauder's map? Or maybe Tom Riddle? Appearing to follow Quirrell all the time?
Really enjoyed yet another Chapter's worth. Quidditch seemed mystical and also in the measure of what sport competitions are at school. The part that you brought up that spiked interest for me was where you brought up the hoarding of gold. You could do a whole episode on that alone. And what gold represented to wizards. The wizards that found it overly important vs the ones that didnt. And how they used gold in their lives and who were the more stable wizards with or without it.
It’s really funny because Hermione gets winded in GoF when they’re hiking up the hill to get to the portkey. Maybe she was more fit than wizard kids in her 1st year because she had Phys. Ed in muggle school, but I guess 4 years without ANY sort of health/physically extenuating classes took a toll lol. Maybe they stay fit because of the stairs? Lol
I feel like for the house cup, Ravenclaw is probably always in the lead at the beginning of the year for academic reasons then the other houses move ahead for Quidditch and other stuff.
I am loving the deep dive into the books. I thought I was obsessed with Harry Potter, but it's nothing compared to these gentlemen. I have been reading too book to dr what you might discuss ❤❤❤
what i imagine for hagrid needing to defrost the brooms on the field would be this. they are stored in a shed thats not isolated at all from the cold so they freeze over in a cold winter and need to be defrosted. as for how hagrid does this ? large campfire ? warm tent he borrowed from the school ?
23:37 J, BEN, I HAVE A THEORY!!! I could be wrong since I don't know if it's mentioned that the door locked behind the trio (and Neville) when they escaped from Fluffy, but what if they're the reason Snape got bit! If I'm not wrong and it's not mentioned that the door locked after they closed it, (which I find unlikely since they needed a spell to unlock it so I think it needed a spell to be locked again) what if they didn't realize it wasn't locked after shutting the door, and left it like that. Fluffy isn't getting through the door and as far as the teachers know, no one has been inside so they assume its still locked. Soooo, when Snape rushed to the door to see if Quirrell made it into the room he checked the door, found it unlocked and rushed in fearing Quirrell had in fact unlocked it and was making his way through the trapdoor only to get bit by Fluffy, but seeing the trapdoor and Fluffy were undisturbed, left, or maybe he and the rest of the teachers caught wind that the troll was in the bathroom and fled. What do you guys think??
I think Dumbledore and Snape probably used the bite to their advantage to motivate Harry to keep investigating. Madme Pomfrey could've healed that up in an instant.
You can actually train yourself not only to remember your dreams if you don't, but also be aware you are in your dreams and direct your actions. In my religion Eckankar dreams are sacred. We use spiritual exercises to try to train ourselves to be conscious in our dreams. You've probably heard of some of these exercises: one is before you go to sleep, make a declaration like: "I will remember my dreams." or "I will do this in my dreams." or maybe even, "I will wake up in my dreams. In one exercise, reverse psychology is used, especially if you don't get results: "I absolutely will _not_ remember my dreams." And you just keep trying. Along with these exercises, Eckists chant a sacred word, HU (pronounced like "hue") for a little while. It is called a love song to God. Anyone can do it and people have used it for thousands of years. The main thing is to be conscious of your efforts. Writing down your dreams will help, too.
I've never been so proud to be from WREXHAM AND HARRY POTTER the super carlin brothers know of our little town (we have city status but we are really a town. I absolutely adore this pod cast. I'm greatful for the brothers, as someone who has dementors on a daily basis Ben and Jay are my Patronus huge love for the pod cast and everything xx
I think sometimes JKR includes some details out of whims instead of logic. And i love her for that. Becase it's a magical world with set rules but as such, it's all in all fantasy so anything can be allowed or excused by thinking "welp, it's just magic and anything can happen". For example, i think Snape, although quite talented with potions and spell creation, he's not a healer, so maybe he didn't find any efficient potion he could fashion himself to cure the wound of a magical creature. However and hear me out; the fact that he went to the squib specially to 'mend' his wound was a way to have him tell Snape any suspicious activities he'd see at night, example, Quirrell's shenanigans in the middle of the night; so Snape discovered the suspect trying to get a hold of the Stone. But Filtch was of not use in such regards, unfortunately.
34:49 This is for everyone who says that Molly didn't think of Harry as a son. In the final book, she gifts Harry her brother's watch when he comes to age. I just remembered this when you mentioned about this tradition, contrary to what some people believe. 43:40 What if it was Hogwarts that told him? It makes sense if you think about how he knows so much about what is going on in the castle at all times. He knew that Harry was visiting the mirror or Erised, he knew that Neville wanted to stop Harry, Ron and Hermoine from leaving the Gryffindor comm on room in the first year for which he even rewards points to Neville. And there are so many other examples of this throughout the books.
I lucid dream from time to time, I just can't control whether said dream will or won't be lucid, I'm just suddenly there. I think it could have to do with my stress levels or how well my anti anxiety meds are affecting me.
I always figured that Snape had thought Quirrell had already gone into the room and sort of burst in to stop him, doesn't see him and assumes he's already gone down the door and that's why he got bit
I always find it interesting, that Ron's tea-leaf reading in PoA is right. Now I cannot remember if what he says is the same in the books as in the movies, but I thought it was a nice touch.
Ok, J's Trelawney impression is probably as good as his McGonagall impression was described. The staff room is probably for the faculty the equivalent of the houses' common rooms.
I do all the voices when I’m reading the books to my kids; my Harry is above and beyond my best, but Dobby has been the most fun! I think I do a fair Hagrid, McGonagall, and Hermione, but I have a ton of trouble with Ron, Dumbledore, and of course Snape. J, your Snape voice is always hilarious in videos so I’d love to hear your McGonagall!
I was just relistening to this and the discussion about Trelawney being the teacher who mircowaves fish just made me think of the way Nigella Lawson pronounced microwave in one video. I totally expected Trelawney to say microwuave.
In regards to the points system, in Book 2 chapter 11, Wood says that winning the game earns Griffyndor 50 points. I think Harry and Ron have seer skills because of how many of their predictions came true when they did the hw for Trelawney. I also think Dumbledore is a legilimens (or has the skills) and has a time Turner. It would explain how he’s constantly aware of what’s going on and how he understands Hermione’s time turner so well. I think he regularly reads people’s minds but can’t tell anyone, otherwise he’d lose his advantage. I think that’s why he knew Hagrid was innocent but didn’t/couldn’t prevent him from being expelled. If he told people how he knew, he’d lose a major advantage.
Have you ever wondered that wands are multipurpose tools that can assist in multiple tasks of daily living and can be used as a weapon. Moreover the sentient wand can slowly learn the wizard's preferences and vice versa. Almost like a smartphone? Maybe consider making an episode on that?
Perhaps the injuries from the ring and sectumsempra aren't really "injuries" that can be healed through normal means, but dark magic/curses that need counter curses.
The discussion about the teacher's lounge reminded me of something I've always wondered about with teaching situation at Hogwarts: there's 7 years that are split up into 4 houses and, for the most part, they all seem have their lessons separately (in the books, anyway), yet there only seems to be 1 teacher per subject, so how are they making the timetables work?
Aren’t brooms just enchanted to be able to fly? I think they mention that somewhere in one of the books, but I like Ben and J’s theory of broom sticks having cores too!
The talk about Dumbledore and what he might have known or suspected makes me wonder- I don’t recall if you may have done it already on theSCB channel, but I would love to see a breakdown of the series from Dumbledore’s point of view. What he was doing, what he knew, and what he might have been plotting at the time, during the major events of the series
They have a similar to what you're asking for, but not exactly, video called Dumbledore's Big Plan if you haven't seen it yet! They did a part for each book, but have all 7 parts in one video too. It's specifically about what he may have been plotting and trying to teach Harry during the events in each of the 7 books. If you haven't seen it yet, it's a great watch!
The take on how Harry can see into Voldemort’s thoughts made me think. So in chamber of secrets, when Harry gets Tom Riddle’s diary and is pulled into it to see Myrtle’s death, could that have been a form of harry seeing Voldemort’s thoughts? But rather than his current thoughts (at this point in time, Voldemort doesnt even have a physical body) it was his past that Harry saw. But he was only able to literally see these memories because of his connection to Voldemort. Whereas while Ginny had the diary, she was just being manipulated and controlled by it and couldnt actually see any of Tom’s memories because she doesnt have the connection to Voldemort that Harry has. Sort of related thing that i always found strange about the diary as well: when harry sees this memory, he could’ve very clearly seen Tom’s robes and would’ve noticed that he was in Slytherin. At this point, Harry didnt really know who tom was aside from his award for service to the school that he and ron had to polish during detention. And harry as a character isnt really known for being very “fair” to Slytherins. What i mean is, hes usually quick to judge them as bad or having malicious intentions (at least in his younger years. Changes a little when he gets older). So ive always wondered why he was so quick to trust Tom especially after he realised he was a Slytherin. It always seemed a little out of character for him imo
yall talking about that Dumbledore wasn't at the match when Harry caught the snitch, but i think about the thing, that Dumbledore had to come to Gryffindoor Tower, presumably when Harry sleeps, and touch Harry's lips with a snitch for it to open, thinking about it makes me laugh
I like the Voldemort theory because it also explains why Harry’s pov in his dreams/visions go from third person in Goblet to first person in the rest of the books. Voldy’s rudimentary body might not have been strong enough to support a direct link between his mind and Harry’s
It's wild in the movies that Hermione reacted with "YOU ATTACKED A TEACHER" when Harry blasted snape. When she LIT THAT SAME TEACHER ON FIRE
To be fair he attacked Snape to his face and Snape himself did nothing wrong in the shack and likely could have been reasoned with, if they just gave each other time to breath.
Hermione was trying to save her friend from being unlived by the said teacher.
Sneak Attacks come with plausible deniability, Curses right into the teachers face, not so much
I could totally see Fred and George, being very talented, using magic to simply make cheap watches look like gold just to confuse the opposing seeker.
One thing I love about Dean, is that we're told repeatedly that he's "good with a quill" -- he does the blanket design in harry's first quidditch match, as well as offers to forge Vernon's signature for harry's hogsmeade letter... I LOVE these small details which carry over!!
wow i've read a few fanfics that mentioned dean as an artist and i wondered where that came from, i totally forgot those details!
What if Snape did notice his robes were on fire but did nothing to stop it until he knew Harry was safe? Like a badass.
Eh a poor retcon
Nah. Don't know why the fanbase need to make Snape retroactively nicer/more heroic
Exactly MY thought, too! 😊
He would’ve been fully set on fire lol
That's quite the reach for an inherently crappy character
It really makes you wonder what they do with the used snitches, like, is there just a big bucket full of them somewhere in the castle? Or did Dumbledore hear that Harry swallowed the snitch and then go and immediately retrieve it thinking "Oh boy, I gotta make sure I keep this thing safe in case I ever need to deliver something to Harry in the weirdest way possible."
My head canon is that they keep them to attach the snitches they caught to win connected to a plaque or a trophy of some sort
Hahaha just buying the whole team for Ron is wild
lmao
Ted Lasso - Quidditch edition lol 😂
I need this
Also there’s literally a movie coming out about the same premise but instead it’s football
Chudley Cannons, Chudley Cannons, BOOM BOOM BOOM, we are not pirates!
God I’m so nervous about the tv show remake, so many remakes and reboots have been awful especially in the last ten years.
Who microwaved fish in the teachers lounge? Filch, of course! It's actually said in the books that his room smells like fish. :'D
I was about to say Professor Burbage but Filch makes even more sense.
Binns definitely did before he died
11/17 chapter down, 6 to go. After that, we begin Chamber of Secrets, which is 18 chapters long. It's not taking 17 weeks, it's taking 15. You dropped 3 episodes in the first week. You guys are amazing, and these episodes are both informative and entertaining at the same time. Keep the amazing content coming.
Looks like somebody paid the math budget this month.

I’ve always felt that a Quidditch themed TV series would be fun
Make it fairly gritty & in a serious tone and make the audience take it seriously & also give the fans what they want since the complete let down of the World Cup in the goblet of fire movie…can’t believe the set up to that match with absolutely no pay off
This has become my Sunday Morning NEED to do while drinking my coffee😊
SAME!
Teacher's lounge is probably their version of a common room
Granted he is only three months old, but one of the parenting things that I am looking forward to is sharing Harry Potter with him for the first time. So I can see him discover all of the secrets and twists for the first time.
I hope he finds it as magical as we all did for the first time x enjoy those precious memories!
Keep your excitement high and your expectations low. My kid loves reading Harry Potter at night, yet he only likes it for the connection between him and I. He ignores whats happening in the book all too often.
@@LorileeLusby thank you.
@@Beavers94 that’s still really sweet.
I wanted to wait for each book to be discussed so I can binge but I keep listening to the newest episode 🫡
same😂
I am glad this podcast is going by so quickly because I am rereading the series and currently on chamber of secrets. I am also rewatching the films.
Chamber of secrets & prisoner have become comfort movies for me in the last 6 months, basically can’t sleep without it
Something just occurred to me. In an earlier video you asked why nobody asked moaning Mertle how she died. I'm wondering if maybe it's just very offensive to ask a ghost how they died, hence Nick getting annoyed when asked "how can you be nearly headless?"
Nah she was thrilled to be asked that
I always thought he was annoyed because the question was kinda skeptical? Like, it was implying he was lying about being nearly headless. It's asked like, you're either headless or you aren't
I haven't reread the books in a while and I now find it kinda crazy how you guys are most of the way through the book, but there is still so much to happen. Dragons, the haunted forest, all the challenges. Seems like a lot is going to happen in the next few weeks.
I feel like the last 1/3 of the book is really condensed and a lot happens in a small amount of time especially compared to the movie.
@@richewilson6394 yeah it’s much more subtle too
I just have to say: I love the studio setup, and also I think the portrait behind Ben should be a concealed screen so that the guy in it moves, like in actual Wizarding World portraits.
I think they get points for each game and for the final standings.
Because of this podcast I'm actually painting the portrait of Joseph Ducreux y'all have in the background.
Love this series. My 12 week old puppy, Clementine, calms down every time she hears your voices. I leave it playing while she sleeps. I think I’ve heard each episode, at least 10 times a piece. 😂
Fine day, Sunday! IMO, the best day of the week! And why is that?? 😁
When we got to the part where Fred and George were talking about his speech the year before, I immediately imagined Oliver interrupting Charlie’s captain speech with his own😂😂😂
You guys should bring your dad on once or twice per book as a special guest!
But it makes my week every time a new episode comes out 😅
"My wife thinks I'm cool" that's actually really sweet. Also should be a t-shirt
"We don't even have a microwave, Sybil!" 🤣🤣🤣
Heyyyy brother! I discovered your channel only recently and I already watched a lot of your theory videos which are great! I got very excited when you said a few weeks ago that you were going to start this podcast. I wanted to re-read the Harry Potter books anyway and now it's the perfect opportunity to read each chapter again to prepare for the next podcast episode! :D
As someone who became a Harry Potter fan meinly because I wanted to see the trio grow up together, I re-read this chapter last week with particular interest in how the beginning friendship of the three was described here.
There are some thing you can't share without ending up liking each other, and knocking out a three-foot mountain troll is one of them."):
Having filled their plates overly with beans, meat, potatoes and sweets, Harry and Ron sat down in the common room but, in silent agreement, left a free seat between them. None of the two started to eat, but they watched Hermione, who slowly filled her plate as well and then, with a small sigh, headed for a free seat in the corner. Harry looked at Ron who nodded, and both of them shouted simultaneousely.
"Hermione! HERMIONE!"
Hermione looked up surprised, as if she wasn't used to hear her name from someone other than a teacher in such a loud and friendly voice.
That's pretty much canon 😂
I highly doubt he _wouldn't_ have been able to heal his leg.
You're against ketchup on sausages? It's like the quintessential duo of meat and dressing.
In fantastic beasts, Newt gives Jacob protective gear before confronting the erumpent due to differences in wizard/muggle physiology
I love these so much thank you for keeping this up guys!👍🏼hopefully we do all seven books!
Lol
Day 3 of asking scb why none of the portraits in book 2 reported the basilisk! I love y'all's channel!!!!
(I did consider that it's in the pipes but it has to be in the hallways for a while in order to attack students :))
Could this be just a word mixup? Later on it's sometimes mentioned that the hoops are defrosted which are part of the Quidditch field.
This is one of my favorite podcasts! Thanks For all your hardwork! 🔥🔥🔥🎉
I think Dumbledore and Snape probably used the bite to their advantage to motivate Harry to keep investigating. Madme Pomfrey could've healed that up in an instant.
Maybe, but fluffy is a magical creature, and possibly she didn’t know about fluffy or the stone and would have raised questions.
In one exercise, reverse psychology is used, especially if you don't get results: "I absolutely will _not_ remember my dreams."
And you just keep trying.
Along with these exercises, Eckists chant a sacred word, HU (pronounced like "hue") for a little while. It is called a love song to God. Anyone can do it and people have used it for thousands of years.
The main thing is to be conscious of your efforts. Writing down your dreams will help, too.
The future will not know the pain of waiting week to week for another episode
I've never been so proud to be from WREXHAM AND HARRY POTTER the super carlin brothers know of our little town (we have city status but we are really a town. I absolutely adore this pod cast. I'm greatful for the brothers, as someone who has dementors on a daily basis Ben and Jay are my Patronus huge love for the pod cast and everything xx
I think the books make the castle seem smaller than the movies show it to be.
I love welcome to wrexham. I cried on the last episode
23:55 unless he thought that Quirrel might have went past Fluffy. And he wanted to check.
I'm struggling to not get too far ahead of you guys
The watch could be brass and , in the sunlight, it would reflect light similarly enough to gold that from a distance it would momentarily fool Harry.
On the seer bit, you should actually pay attention to when Ron makes them for Divination, because he ends up being right (almost?) every time!
43:20 And how did Dubmbledore know years ago that he might need that Snitch later? Just kept is as memorabilia all those years 😂
Maybe all of them are kept somewhere.
And how was HE able to open it to place the stone in it?
I lucid dream from time to time, I just can't control whether said dream will or won't be lucid, I'm just suddenly there. I think it could have to do with my stress levels or how well my anti anxiety meds are affecting me.
I would agree, that for the House championship it only matters if they win or not, but for the Quidditch cup it matters how many points they get.
Yay! I'm early. Always looking forward to hearing your poddcast. Also, I'm from Sweden 😊
Yeaa.... I'm gonna need "It's that Fluffy venom" on a shirt, thank you kindly
A Very Good Podcast 👌🏻👍🏻
19:00 😂😂 honestly so funny, used to have a guy at my job who would microwave fish and would stink the whole cafeteria out 🤢😂
Have you ever wondered that wands are multipurpose tools that can assist in multiple tasks of daily living and can be used as a weapon.
They definitely don't pay those teachers enough 😅
One of my all time favorite chapters! THANKS guys🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤️
Grabs book... LET'S GOOOOO!
