This video is a good illustration for folks who don't use wheelchairs/mobility aids (because not all disabled ppl do, either) which bits of inaccessible infrastructure we're taking for granted. I was pretty upset that CA relatively recently redid a trail in a redwood area and it's not wheelchair accessible...It was constructed 30 years post-ADA. Even when abled people are putting things in place for accessibility, it's usually for school or work and only the laborious parts - not the parts for having fun! Disabled people deserve fun and silliness and joy too! Hair-raising turn around on that trail. I'm glad you got through it. And that someone turned up to help on the suspension bridge. Also glad you got some time doing the exploration you enjoy.
Thanks for sharing this story. Not being in a wheelchair I too overlook the obstacles that you must face. About 5 years ago while traveling in the UK, I was at a train station and a man who was with his wife in a chair, asked the information desk where the "Lift" (elevator) was. She smiled and said just go up this flight of stairs and it is on the right. I was shocked but he took it in stride and pulled his wife up the stairs. All I could think was what would his wife do if she was on her own. I realize that infrastructure is old but surely hope we move past this and open the world to all. Also I love how you share your fear and then keep pushing to get past or deal with it to keep going. As a senior I find that many times I am afraid of situations where I will be vunerable and need to push past that so I am not missing out. watching you really helps me. Hi LIsa. I just ran across your YT channel and have been amazed by what I've seen and learned from you so far. I thought this particular video was incredible (the other 2 were as well). I'm an able-bodied man living on the East Coast of the US, just south of Boston. I enjoy international travel because I love learning how to see/experience the world through the eyes and experiences of people from different cultures. I've also had the good fortune to work with 2 Canadian companies -- in Toronto and in Vancouver -- and, as I'm fond of saying, I've never met a Canadian I didn't like. I made the mistake of once telling a Canadian couple, about Canadians, "They're all so nice." She said, "That's what everyone says," so I've stopped saying it, even though it's true. Anyway, your videos are amazing -- and so are you -- and you've opened my eyes to new ways of seeing the world and the people in it. So thank you for that. I've subscribed and will continue watching. Thanks too for sharing all that you have for everyone. I'm looking forward to watching more, and learning more.
I’m so happy you found the channel and are enjoying the videos! My hometown of Moose Jaw is actually called “The Friendliest City”, so we just can’t help it 🤷♀️😂
Doing a K turn on a narrow slopey road is one thing, but you have walls metal truck walls around you.None of that for you! Pure hits young one good judgement great skills! Nice teaching video
What an interesting outing you took us all on. I appreciated seeing things from your perspective and I really valued hearing your thoughts and feelings at the end. You go grrrrl.
My heart rate went up. I had to walk to the kitchen for a glass of milk. I love your idea of how to get your bike in and out of your van. I want a van and a bike, but I cannot lift the bike. You've given me that and some other good ideas! Thanks.
I'm glad you got to explore and I was so excited when you climbed those steps and you did cross that bridge. Maybe we can ride together and you can show me some trails when I travel back up to Canada next year.
Unfortunately alot of mobility abled bodies do not think about these simple things, but you are an amazing lady and kudoos keep smiling cause it looks good on you thanks again for the videos

I was surprised that you were still riding a recumbent bike after competing in the Paralympics and probably suffering from wear and tear. Now I realize it's electric, it's great that there's the option to continue riding. I've seen how you can ride up hills, great.
@@LindaG858 I agree! I’ve wanted one that could work in this situation but they’re pretty pricey. I’ll eventually get one, but until then I’m staying off narrow and unfamiliar trails
Hello, I found your channel through Vancity's channel. I found his channel by falling asleep with YT playing and waking up to one of his videos lol. Have you considered getting a little drone to scout ahead on your adventures? Could definitely help with planning turn arounds or knowing forsure if you can follow a path without needing to turn around due to an obstacle. Also if you got one with a good camera, would be good additional footage for your videos. This was the first video I watched on your channel. I wanted to build a van before, now I feel like I have to. Thank you.
@Keepinitwheel306 I just started watching the video, you immediately address the things I was thinking lol. I'm glad you see the same benefits that came to my mind when you were inching your way to turn around on that narrow path. Make sure to read up on properly storing and maintaining the drone batteries if you haven't already. I had a drone battery stop working on me because I left it unattended with a full charge for an extended period of time. Would be very inconvenient out there on the road. Nice to meet you, be safe out there. 🖖
Wow, I've just finished watching the video, you're really cool, how brave you are. I would have a heart attack from fear. Maybe I'd get myself a little drone to see how it goes on in front of me. A good idea would be if you could enter your routes for wheelchair users in an app, e.g. Wheelmap app. Then other wheelchair users could use it as a guide. Are you not afraid of bears? What do you do then?
I would love a drone but the one I’m eyeing is so pricey. So, I actually do work assessing trails in the summer and all of the info is uploaded and available for public viewing. I wish every single trail could have this done. I encountered a bear on my very first mountain bike ride. Luckily my friend and I were equipped with a whistle and bear spray but making noise scared the bear off. I always carry those in bear country.
You mentioned that you take your mobile phone with you encase of emergencies as well as a Garmin, encase the phone doesn't have any service. Well I'm wondering if the Garmin also uses mobile phone towers to transmit, because if it does then that plan isn't going to work very well. I'm a computer programmer and the most important thing to know about technology is it goes wrong all the time. Satellite phones are expensive. Is there any reason why you can't take some distress flares with you as well as the other stuff? Distress flares are low tech enough to always function. But you might need to fire off a few before someone calls 911 (or 112 if you want to be more international). Most people might see it and say "that looks strange" without actually doing anything, but at some point someone would have the intelligence to dial 911 or 112. Just don't start a forest fire with your distress flares.
Google can probably help with that! If you want some inspiration for your build you can see a tour I did of a friend’s accessible van (on my channel) or my own tour is here; m.ruclips.net/video/_YG5PX2Ni-k/видео.html
