  • Pankaj Udhas, Indian ghazal singer, credited with popularising the ghazal form of music in India. He began his career as a playback singer in Bollywood before turning to the semi-classical form of the ghazal. Throughout his career, he has released over 60 solo albums and performed concerts all over the world. He has been awarded numerous awards including the Padma Shri in 2003.
    In 1979, Pankaj Udhas made his debut as a playback singer for the movie Hum Tum Aur Woh. He went on to sing for several other movies such as Saath Saath (1982), Utsav (1984) and Prem Pratigyaa (1989). However it was only in 1984 with the release of his first solo album Aahat that he gained widespread recognition as a ghazal singer. He has also collaborated with several other artists such as Jagjit Singh, Asha Bhosle, Lata Mangeshkar and Anup Jalota. His songs have been featured in numerous films and television shows.
    Pankaj Udhas has won numerous awards for his contribution to Indian music. He won the Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer for the song “Chitthi Aayi Hai” from Naam (1986). He also won the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Ghazal Singing in 2001. In 2003 he was awarded the Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian honour. He was also honored with the Ghalib Award by All India Ghalib Academy in 2013.
