    Very helpful. Thank you! Is there anything different when doing them off rails/boxes? Obviously can’t ollie. I’m not getting all the way 180.

    • @ShredSchool1
      @ShredSchool1  3 года назад +4

      yeah, you should come off like you're doing an ollie, with the back foot leaving the rail last instead of both feet at once. Also, start turning your shoulders a little earlier on the rail if you can't seem to get it the whole way around. Keep your board straight, but initiate the spin with your upper body, then let the lower body follow once the rail ends. Hope this helps!

    Thanks for the vids Ed.
    I always have an issue on larger hits with these. As I can do them on smaller side hits. But... off a small kicker its like my body naturally wants to kick backwards and turn horizontal to the snow, from looking down blind. Just cant seem to level it out.
    One of the best looking moves in my opinion as well so would be nice to try again this year on larger hits.
    Any mental cues I can try for this? Thanks

    • @ShredSchool1
      @ShredSchool1  2 года назад +4

      Yeah, I do the same thing to the point of dragging my hand in the snow. gotta maintain upright posture when you're taking off, make sure you don't bend at the waist because you're looking down blind. Practice doing them with Ollies on flat ground and rollers with super upright posture and focus on it on takeoff on larger jumps and should be able to stay upright. Don't drag the hand
      If all else fails practice them on a skateboard because you have to use proper posture to get it to work

    • @klaspremier5699
      @klaspremier5699 2 года назад +1

      @@ShredSchool1 Thanks Ed , glad you understood what I meant lol. Definitely the issue not being upright and not ollying first. Makes sense. Appreciate the reply

    Tried one switch today for the 1st of this season off a ten foot jump and caught my heel edge on take off. Yikes. Fortunately I landed on the sweet spot of the landing and slide down it on my back. Lucklily I didn't hit my head. Think I need some practice on snow stuff more. Was doing them alright off small jumps last year. Practice practice. Was thinking it would be cool to link it to one of my favorite straight airs.

    I have a hard time with my weight transfer when landing a backside 180º. I can land and ride it out for like 5 seconds but then my tail which is now my nose diggs in... I ride slightly stanced back.. would this be make it more difficult? I've tried to swich quick right after I land but can't quite get it. Any tips?

    • @ShredSchool1
      @ShredSchool1  2 года назад +1

      Just try leaning more towards your nose (now your tail) if you keep going over the switch nose
      You could also try to be more over the center of your board in the air. Hard to tell without seeing a clip but sound like you might be too heavy over your back foot throughout the whole spin

      For sure! You can land on toe or heel edge as needed given the situation but if at all possible, especially over big jumps I aim for flat based to carry maximum speed in to the next hit

    You really don’t need an ollie flat land / smaller jumps. It looks way smoother if you pop both feet simultaneously. Slows the spin, way better style and lots of height.

    • @ShredSchool1
      @ShredSchool1  2 года назад +2

      I would not recommend learning this way. You won’t be able to do it on to rails, over obstacles, off big jumps. Learn proper form by using an Ollie

    • @tristanbrookes4553
      @tristanbrookes4553 2 года назад +1

      @@ShredSchool1 I’ve been riding that way just fine for the last 20 odd years. I also believe it’s way easier, as you can more easily level the board especially on spins. I’m not against ollies but I wanted everyone to know there’s another perhaps easier way to start popping. I will agree that ollies are better for side hit rails definitely.

      Your natural stance is goofy? Or you just like riding switch? I love riding switch, it's a good way to take the pressure off tired muscles.

    • @TheMilkman04
      @TheMilkman04 2 года назад

      @@MckWells It’s my natural stance, I first started skateboarding around like 7-8 when rip sticks came out and for some reason started with my right foot in front. Just became natural and that’s how I rode on skateboards and snowboards even to this day.

    • @alastairkennett7794
      @alastairkennett7794 2 года назад

      @@TheMilkman04 That's not riding switch, that's a goofy stance. Riding switch would be riding regular (left foot forward) when your natural stance is goofy (right food forward).
