  • Today I may have lost my sanity while building my Biobrick production facility. I may have just slightly overengineered the factory in the pursuit of unattainable perfection....
    We'll be figuring out Priority Mergers and Splitters in the process!
    Techtonica is a first-person factory building game set beneath the surface of an alien planet. Work alone or in co-op to build factories, gather resources, research new technologies, mold the destructible terrain, establish a base of operations, and uncover long-forgotten secrets.

    Can’t you just use inserters for your priority system? Main input goes strsight from source to destination. Secondary feed is parallel to main, with inserters just filling any holes in the main feed line.

    • @relyengaming
      @relyengaming  Год назад

      Yes, you are quite right, inserters are another method for accomplishing priority merging and overflow. If I had done that, I would of approached it somewhat differently. The issue currently in Techtonica, is that you can't fully saturate a belt with just inserters (sorta).
      In some other similar games, the items on the belt can be sort of "shoved" to the side if there is room on the belt to squeeze in the item. However, Techtonica currently doesn't do this. I know the devs want to add it at some point. This means you can't fully saturate the belt.
      Stack inserters do help minimize the issue, but I don't have Stack inserters at the moment.
      That said, I also come from more of a Satisfactory background, so this felt more natural to me...and really look great at the end :)

    I did the same, it tanked my frame rates because I had everything on multiple floors. I was a total spaghetti fest in terms of inputs and outputs. Including a lot of spiralling belts carrying stuff between floors. Definitely not going to repeat that in my text run lawl.

      It’s just an automated way to feed the terminal what it’s needs. It’s honestly easier to do it by hand.

    I think keeping the tutorials light in content is probably a wiser move since things are bound to change and often. No point making some monster video covering every threshing setup that works now if some future update is going to make the whole thing moot. Keep them smallish so you can easily update and replace anything that changes along the way. I do think a load balancing video early on in your tutorial series would be smart based on all the gameplay I've seen on yt and twitch so far. Seems that concept (even amongst avid Satisfactory players) got lost somewhere along the way. Granted the massive spaghetti factory at Victor works well enough to plow through the game, but it feels almost brute force to me rather than enjoying the game.
    I do appreciate the fact that you go the extra mile already. Both on here and discord. You're amazing, just saying.

      Yea, the bus strategy really doss trivialize Techtonica a little bit. I did a similar bus back in the Alpha that was exactly like the bleacher bus used now. I called it the Waterfall bus back then. And the reason I didn't rush out and do it right off the bat, was because it is super easy.
      I wanted this series to have some more interesting factories :)

    In regards to the tutorial video about the threshers. I think it's better to have everything together and chaptered out so that way all people need to look up is the Bio Brick Build, instead of having to sort through a bunch of smaller videos.

    I like having a bunch of extra seeds in my planter systems, since they give of a bunch of natural light.

    • @relyengaming
      @relyengaming  Год назад

      I did not realize the seeds give off light, I'll have to play with that! My load balance build has it's origins in the alpha, where there was a VERY limited amount of seeds. So, I habitually try to be efficient with my seed usage...even if it isn't quite as necessary in the Early Access version of the game.

    Were the ratios different? Because at least now it is 120 second per crop => 2 crops per minute with one planter => 5 planters = 10 per minute so 1 tresher

  • @adalerk
    @adalerk Год назад +3

    That priority line reminds me my early satisfactory storage setups before they added overflow system. However, in Techtonica you can use inserters, as they can not place items on the belt if it is full.
    So I simply make 2 parallel bets, and put inserters in between. The one they insert to is the priority line, if it's full they won't be able to insert anything.
    You can also do it with storage containers, just add container down the line and it will fill up the belt without staggering machines.

    • @relyengaming
      @relyengaming  Год назад

      Very true, there are a few ways to do it. The issue with the inserter method (currently) is that they can't "push" items on the belts to fit things in where there is room. So, small gaps between items will remain unfilled on a partially full belt. The devs do plan on fixing this at some point. So you'll need to use some merger to maximize a belt with this method. So, for this factory at least, I decided to go with my belting version. Which is slightly more complicated than the inserter version, but doesn't have the "fill the belt" problem. That said, I didn't realize how many I was going to be building when I started :P

    • @adalerk
      @adalerk Год назад

      @@relyengaming You are right, I noticed those gaps too. Luckly, with stack insterters it is way better, hardly see any gaps on mk2 belts.
      As for your project, I was "Wow, that's a fancy way of building priority merger! It takes a lot of clicks to build, but for just 2 lines it's fine". 15 min later "This guy is a madman. He will need a break after this one" So now I understand why there were no let's play videos for a while;)

    • @relyengaming
      @relyengaming  Год назад +1

      @@adalerk Haha, yes. This one ended up taking longer than I originally figured. So I did the ramp guide in the interim and then finished up the mental gymnastics required for this build. :P
      I was tempted to try and break it up into 2 videos :P But if I start doing stuff like that, I need to make sure each video has a point.

    I just found your channel, because I was looking for inspiration for my own Techtonica playthrough... I have been going over your initial video from the Alpha playthrough you did and your designs and decorations are top notch, given how limited we are on the available construction blocks... I also found another YTer had ripped off one of your designs and not given you credit, so I have called him on it... I hope that you get credit from him. (Not going to name name's, but I have given him and his viewers a link to your bleacher bus design video that proves you had the idea first). I really dislike when someone has an idea, and then someone else pawns it off as their own.... Anyway, I am really enjoying catching up on your videos - trying to resist the urge to watch the newest releases and just watch in order so I can see everything that happened from the beginning and how you managed to develop your ideas etc. Really nice work! 😍😍
