- This How To video focuses on controlling your kick out of waves when SUP surfing. It's really important to get this right as it keeps you and other surfers safe in the lineup.
We learn how to safely and confidently kick out of a wave, avoiding the lip and a potential wipeout.
Being in control of your SUP in the line-up is one of the fundamental elements when learning to SUP surf. It forms the basis for all of our manoeuvres and gains you respect from other water users.
Remember to also watch the SUPboarder PRO video about kicking out of bigger waves and how you can avoid a monster wipeout: supboardermag....
these videos are a godsend. Thanks for the awesome work!
Glad you like them! Thanks, Beau
Like pulling out of a woman. Stay in for too long and it could have dire consequences for you.
Good stuff thanks!
Glad you liked the video! Thanks, Beau
Bad advice for the beginners imo. Beginners should be advised to ride the wave till the end straight forward to the beach. When they got this, learn them to step back, far to the end of the board (hit the break). And after that you can learn them to cut back over the wave or even kick the board (something I would never advice a SUP surfer, because surfers will hate you for this).
Hi Daan, thanks for the comment and advice. Some good points there, but riding into shallow water has some safety concerns as well. As mentioned, it's always advised to make sure no one is around you when kicking out, otherwise riding into shore would be the best course of action and dismounting safely. It's something we should do another video about (how to wipeout safely) and the video above was for those higher level beginners. Cheers, Beau
What stroke length is important in sup surfing for generating speed, longer or shorter?
For most paddlers a shorter / faster stroke is more powerful when out in the surf. Small paddle blades also help as-well.
Good video! I just recently started doing this. I spent my first year surfing just getting wrecked by every wave I rode. Now I only get wrecked by a third of them.
Glad you are improving. Hope these tips help you. Cheers, Beau
Those tips are very interesting and useful. Thanks
