My favourite part had to be when Evonnie said she likes you...absolutely precious. There was a lotta love in that statement. You and your little sis remind me of precious times with my sisters...my twin sisters are 18 years older than me and my next sister is 8 years older. Time spent with my sisters have given me some of the the warmest memories of my life...cousins too...this was a fun video and I thank you for all the effort you put I to every video. I look so forward to Megan Thursday’s!

Something I discovered this week, and I can't believe I've been doing this wrong all this time, but to stop food sticking , foil should be dull side up! I've always done shiny up. I gave it a go the other day, and sure enough everything just slid right off, no effort. Not sure if it's the same for cold food but worth a try. Saves having to grease up the foil.

There's two things happening here! The baking soda is in the water to keep is basic (lye is a strong base, and baking soda or sodium bicarbonate is a weaker base). Flour is slightly acidic. The browning that you see on pretzels is caused by a chemical reaction that occurs on the surface and that reaction happens faster in an alkaline (or basic) environment. Since baking soda is weaker than lye it doesn't give as good of browning. The chewiness factor that we associate with pretzels is from the water. You don't boil the pretzels here, but you do dip them in water. That's supposed to help the outer crust set before the inner crust, leading to chew. I think it probably works similarly in the oven? the outside sets as the water from the dip boils off? Not totally sure, but all said looks delicious.

A fav summer party treat I make is s’mores bark. Line a baking sheet with parchment. Melt chocolate chips in a double boiler and spread out. Quickly put mini marshmallows and Golden Grahams cereal on top of the chocolate layer. Chill and harden in fridge. Then break into bark pieces. Sometimes I use teddy graham crackers instead of the cereal.

Prezels are a type of "Laugengebäck" in Germany. So the literal translation of that is lye baked goods. The mixture you have is a lye and is responsible for the typical taste and texture. Bakeries use a way stronger lye then natron. But since that is dangerous most home bakers use natron. It still gives a satisfying result.

I'm now a Nana and watching your videos I realize my two biggest regrets but I'm trying to do better with my granddaughter (my daughter and granddaughter live with us). Not being organized has been a life long battle but more importantly I should have let my girls help me more in the kitchen and cleaning. I usually just want to "get it done" and I have to stop and remember my granddaughter wants to help. My girls are adults and we went on some very nice vacations but it's the little things your kids will look back on fondly more so than any toy or amusement park is just time spent together. Baking, cooking, gardening, picnics etc. Meghan you're a fantastic mom. ❤️

Another fantastic video Megan! You always have the best recipes you recommend. Yes, include the fails. We all have them. It happens. My son would have loved seeing that train. He's 7 years old now, but he decided at 9 months old he wanted to be a train driver. He loves anything and.everything about trains. He would want to spend HOURS watching videos of trains going on their route. (the driver had a camera in the front window and you would hear people getting on and off at each stop). I found out about train appenticeships and he can do that after high school and would make a lot of money. Its his dream and we fully support it.

When making fruit jerky I find it beneficial to puree the fruit with some syrup and rolled oats and then make the fruit leathers by dehydrating the mix on a baking sheet. Make sure if you are dehydrating the mix in the oven, that it is not too hot as it will cook instead of dehydrate. Once dehydrated then slice into strips. They come out lovely and chewy and I have also made them in the dehydrater by making small spoons full and my kids used to love them.

I have made watermelon jerky and loved it. I put plain watermelon in the dehydrator and dried it. It came out like taffy. I kept it in the refrigerator because it still had some moisture in it. I would make it again. My adult son (who was watching this too) suggested a sugar glaze on top of the watermelon before dehydrating.

Thank you for sharing your snack recipes. I will definitely make some of them for my family and for potlucks. I have never heard of watermelon jerky, but I can tell you that in Mexico, it is very common to eat fresh fruit with lemon, salt, and chili spice. I personally prefer to use lemons, salt and either chile spice or a sauce called "Valentina". My kids like the seasoning you used. I think it is too chemically tasting. In my opinion, the sweeter the fruit, the better. I love the mix of sweet, salty, sour, and spicy.

Pretzels are usually dipped in boiled baking soda + water for the chemical reaction that causes the shiny brown outer crust. Traditionally they’re dipped in food grade lye. When I make soft pretzels, once the dough has proofed in 🥨 shape, they are gently lowered into simmering water with baking soda for a few seconds, taken from the water to sheet trays, sprinkled with salt then baked. The exterior gets nice and shiny brown.

Just cut up watermelon chunks or balls and serve ice cold (with salt if you like). They're easy and refreshing. My children's father was a retired Locomotive Engineer. I just remembered my Dad's first job
was in Pittsburgh, PA. Back in the 40's.He was hired to work on the railroad tracks while the family was in Mexico. They ended up getting
their green cards and moved to
Los Angeles and I was born here
two years later. But, when I was in college we had the opoortunity to
visit aunt an uncle in Galion, Ohio
back in 73' and theyblent us their
car and drove to Pittsburgh, so we could se where he worked, but it changed so much we could not find specifically where worked. Though,
    We enjoyed driving through the
different states, God's country indeed. Fond memories, so when I see your channel it puts a smile on my face...M♡M of 5

You should make “Corn Crack” for one of your visits to the cabin. It’s super easy and so good! 3 cans black beans (rinsed & drained), 1 can whole kernel corn (drained), 1 can Rotel (do not drain), 2 chopped green onions, 1 pkg Ranch mix, and 1/2 cup of mayo. Mix altogether and eat with tortilla chips. Of course you will store the left overs in the fridge. We don’t usually have any left over. 😉

I work at a soft pretzel stand and the reason that you dip the pretzels into baking soda water is so that they brown. It has happened already that we forgot to put baking soda in our water and they never browned!

I did research on the water and baking soda, the water causes it to puff, and creating a chewy interior and giving the exterior a head start on forming a crisp crust, the baking soda makes the pretzels golden brown and cracked in appearance.

I would love to use the products ( oat bowl ,...) you suggested but it does not seem to be kosher ( I am an Orthodox Jew) : do you know if there’s any kosher certification on them? I did not see it online either! Thank you so much for your AWESOME and wholesome content! May G.od bless you and your family! PS THE BEAR 🐻 WAS SOOOOOOO CLOSE!!!! Yikesss !!! I would have ran away!!!

On the Daily Harvest website they say they're not certified kosher but are working on it!! Everything is vegan and I didn't see any grapes listed, so hopefully when they start the proess it will pretty easy!

I keep seeing the ads for Daily Harvest, they've got something worth thinking about. The problem is I live in an apartment, and might not be home when they drop it off. I use pizza wheels to cut quesadillas, so that makes sense. My nephew likes construction vehicles, he's like "Digger move, digger move". My dad is an architect, so who knows.

Hello! Great video I love watching you and your family :) I was wondering if next time can you show us how you pack everything up to go? I felt bad you had to wash all your fancy dishes before your trip! ❤️

Great recipes! I haven't had fruit salsa in years! I am pretty sure that and the s'mores fudge will be happening like this week! lol Amazon storefront!!! Yes!!! I was meaning to suggest that to you, but I guess great minds think alike! Thank you for all your hard work!! I would love any suggestions on good devotionals. I am currently doing a reading plan out of my Bible but I only have a few more weeks with that.
    Have a blessed week!

It made me smile to "meet" your younger sister. She already looks so smooth and practiced in the kitchen. What a great helper on a busy cooking day!

The baking soda us what gives the crispy golden outside. The hotter the baking soda water, the more golden the pretzel.

My grandma on my mom's side let us pick out a Precious Moments figurine. We have a cabin here in Ohio. I know exactly what you are talking about. When it was rebuilt we finally got plumbing though. We do have electricity down there.
