@@papajoeknows8355 you don’t understand I got a acre of it, it will take a dump truck full.
@@dannylang7971 hahaha, sounds like you might just wanna friendly up to the idea of having crabgrass.
Love this websight. I've been mowing lawns sense I was 6. 64 now . Reading these comments are so educational. Wish I knew this years ago. Would have made my life easier. I recently had cancers and was weak but my yard was a mess so I hand picked weeds for three days. Crabgrass came back. Now I know what to do. Cancer free now🥰
Congratulations on the cancer. And no more picking weeds. 👏🏻
Amen!!!!

💯🙏🏽THANK YOU Joe!!
It really WORKS!!! I had at least 400sqft of crab grass in various spots. I went to Costco bought 2 bags, laid it down friday night(4/12/24), watered it in and today(4/14/24)it’s completely turned black and dried out with no damage to the lawn. (I have Bermuda grass if anyone wants to know my grass type)
*updated*
(5/11/24)
The baking soda destroyed the Bermuda grass two days after (4/14/24)sorry about the late update.
Awesome glad to hear it! Also another little secret, it works on weeds too. Just sprinkle and walk away. 👍🏻
@@papajoeknows8355 🫡Yes sir! I pour a little on some clovers in my neighbors yard.
Good post helpful!
So it did end up killing the Bermuda?
@@Tra-vis yessir! But the grass came back a almost two weeks later
You are life saver. Everyone only has these high cost chemicals and they want you to buy them from their link.
Yup, this is simple and works like a charm. Works on weeds too. 👍🏻
@@papajoeknows8355what's the update on crabgrass? Did it come back or completely died off?
I've been using baking soda for a couple of years now, and I find that sprinkling it in the morning when the grass blades are wet from Dew is the most effective.
It’s amazing how well it works, and way better than using chemicals. Sometimes after I do it, I’ll mist them a little with the hose so it gets the baking soda started soaking into the ground to kill the roots.
Where’s the link?
Does it kill dandelions too? Also does this actually kill the crabgrass in the root? Otherwise it will be back.

This works. I like to do it in the morning when the grass is still wet and then put the baking soda in a sock and shake a light dusting on the crabgrass.
I like the sock idea. 👍🏻

I just came in from the yard where I had been pulling crab grass up - I’m gonna do this in the morning. Thank you!
@@fionaclong it’s always best to do a test spot to make sure it doesn’t affect your grass… I’ve got St. Augustine which is rooted pretty deeply. I suspect that’s why it’s unbothered by the baking soda.
I read that you should wet the crabgrass first so the baking soda will stick to it better. Thank you for a great video. Straight and to the point.
@@juanvaldes2458 no, if you’re going to wet it, do it after… a light misting will get it down to the roots so it can take effect more quickly.
I love Baking Soda and I use it for lots of things around my house. This is a wonderful product. I use it to bathe with and on my face too. It cleans you so good and your skin is so soft and clean. Great for everything really.
Interesting… never thought about bathing & face wash.

I've been doing that for many years. Almost 70 and feel so refreshing. I especially use it just before bed. Ha, best sleep ever.
I use epsom salts in my bath twice a month.
Thank you so much for this video. My crabgrass is taking over my St Augustine and I keep pulling bundles and bundles of it out to protect my turf grass. This will make it a lot easier. I am in Bradenton Florida.

@@bondito88 baking soda works however you need a lot of it if you're trying kill other weeds such as goose grass. You also need to apply multiple times for it to not return unfortunately.
I have to try this. I typically use BASF's Drive XLR8 with methylated seed oil. It's worked great for me, but if I can get away with just using baking soda, I'll gladly save the money.
Wow that is exactly what I been looking for, thanks for sharing the video now I need something to kill wild Bermuda grass because is all over my grass….
I could not believe how well this worked....killed it overnight. So cheap and non-toxic to my dogs.
Definitely need to be careful with yard chemicals around animals.

I have 2 and a half acres of what is now all weeds and crab grass. I did an application of pre-emergent this spring like every year, but after all the rain, it just all turned from grass to weeds and crabgrass from one week to the next suddenly. Thanks for the tip! What you call your regular grass is what looks like crab grass in my lawn. Maybe I am wrong. Not sure what our regular grass is, more like a Kentucky Blue, Rye or Fescue. I'll try the baking soda on a patch of our "crab" grass and see what happens. This is better the spraying herbicides.

How did this work for you? I have KBG as well and interested in this for crab grass
@@ManTimeT.V. I just tried it on patch of KBG with crab grass mixed in and it killed everything.
@@ChanceL85 it killed the KBG as well? Or just the weeds and crabgrass?
@@ManTimeT.V. The KBG as well.
Nice. We have lots of crab grass here in Texas. I will have to test this out. Right now my focus is all the ants that come with the spring rains.
There’s a trick for ants & roaches too... mix 50/50 baking soda and powdered sugar, then put in a bulb duster with a wand like the link below. It allows you to distribute in hard to reach areas (beside & under refrigerator / in back of cabinets etc.) the mixture attracts them and then disrupts their digestive system and kills them. I should do a video on that.💡

@@papajoeknows8355 I am primarily fighting them outside. After we have a really hard rain within a couple days ant piles will pop up all over the yard. I have Chihuahuas so my main concern is not using chemicals and keeping them out of the piles. I finally figured out I could put treatment on the piles and then covered them with a terracotta pot which would keep the dogs out of them until I kill the mound.
@@DianaWilson I use the same mixture on ant mounds. I sprinkle it around the perimeter of the mound without disturbing the mound itself. It has worked well for me.
TEMOP will get the ants.
I’m telling you Terro clear plastic ant baits kills any ants you want gone. Also, amdro fire and baits sprinkled all over your yard after you mow and no rain or water for 3 days will leave your yard free of fire ants almost all Season. I tried everything else but these two control all your south lawn ants period. The Terro can be used if ants get in your home. They will swarm all over the bait then 2 days later you won’t see them anymore
I'm going to try this on poison ivy. I did try this on my grass in East TN. It did kill the crab grass. But it also did a job on my fescue grass. I only did a small section, thankfully. I applied it lighter in a different location, and it seemed to do better.
Yes, always best to test and experiment. I think it may relate to how deeply something is rooted. If rooted deeply, it is unaffected as is the case with my St. Augustine grass. I also use it on weeds, and it works beautifully, as the weeds are not deeply rooted, but the adjacent plants are.
So did it work for your poison ivy?
I didn’t have crabgrass until I started having a lawn service cut my grass for me. I realized they were importing seeds and debris to my property. Now I insist that they empty the mower bag before they cut my lawn, and after so they don’t import seeds from my lawn to others.
Yes, but seeds can be all stuck up under the mower deck too though, it’s really unavoidable unfortunately.
Yep. That’s why I stopped using one.
Oh my goodness! That's what happened to me! And because it grows so fast I had to get it cut every 2wks just to control! This is why we ended up buying our own mower 😅, this will help a lot 👍🇭🇲
Did it help at all?
Can’t wait to try it. Got a bad flea problem going on right now.
Get Diatomaceous Earth Food Grade only they make all kinds but it has to be food grade if not it can kill or make birds, cats dogs sick. I use a fertilzer spreader and cover every inch in my yard..It kills fleas but it does not work if its wet so make sure to do it on a warm or hot I use it around the foundation of my house and it will kill bugs from coming into the house no more ants(yippie)...Remember must be FOOD GRade...it really works! I buy mine from CHEWY...
Just put down some pyrethrin these are going to give you a disease
The magic question for me is does it take out permanently or just for the season? As I understand crabgrass is that is has the weed on top of the lawn with another right underneath it ready for next season..
My understanding it’s a reseeding annual,so if not allowed to set/drop seed, should decrease next year,of course there’s always seed spread from birds

great video short and to the point with examples deom thxs ❤
It's taken over my yard after I used Bioadvance 3 in 1 weed and fed. It did kill the dandelions and clover and wears rise but it FED that darn crabgrass. So, my questions are:
1. How heavy do I need to put it on?
2. What if it rains before the two days are up?
I appreciate your tip and I will try this. Cheaper than tenacity or makaze.
1. Just sprinkle like in the video. There’s no specific amount.
2. Unless it a torrential downpour, the rain is fine… it helps it get down into the roots. You could even mist it a bit if you wanted to. 👍🏻

@timivers8823 No I
haven't had time to try it, I talked to my lawn care guy about it. And he said it is a another type of fescue that basically forms from various sources over time and there is no way that he knows of to separate it from the small bladed fescue without killing it all?
Interesting tip, but my first thought is surely this must change the pH of the soil. Baking soda's effects are relatively short lived though, like wood ash as opposed to lime. I'd still be cautious about doing this too often.
You are correct, it alters the pH but it’s very short lived. I’ve been doing for years without any issues. Also, it works very well for weeds.
Would it work on binderweed / wild morning glory?
