  • In this #cubbyvanlife video postcard we're visiting the largest man-made ski flying facility in the world, the only one in the western hemisphere, Copper Peak Ski Flying Complex, located in one of our favorite places, the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, or the UP, just outside the town of Ironwood.
Buit in 1969 at a cost of just over $1 million and the first international ski flying competition was held there in 1970 and the last flight was in 1994. Luckily for us it's now open to the public for touring, if not for flying.
What an awesome place to visit!
The archival footage used in the video is from two other RUclips channels and you should definitely check out the full-length version, they're really something to see.
The video from the 90s is at SeXieS and ORVs of Michigan's channel and can be seen here:

The video from the 70s is excerpted from DVD they sell at the Copper Peak gift shop. The full video can be seen on Jim Kallinen's channel here:

Wow that’s high! Lynn said “I get the shakes just looking at it”. Thanks for sharing. We drove by there a couple times when we visited Ashland but didn’t realize it was THAT tall. Cool clip.
