Howdy from Akron! So a couple of things. One of the off-lease corporate PCs is FAR better at home vs the rackmount gear. All of the server NICs run hot. They expect to be in a server with a lot of front to back airflow in a server closet or datacenter. If you get a desktop style PC, make sure you put a small fan blowing on the NICs. I'd Try a 2.5G dedicated copper NIC going to the ONT. I think the intel I225 or i350s can do it. In regards to the ONT module it's worth a call your carrier, a lot of them use ONT modules for business customers and they may be willing to work with you. Working with municipal fiber has a lot more flexibility than any mega carrier. Those ONT modules are neat. Most of them are 10G simplex. The carrier polices the traffic towards you in their transport equipment. You'd be expected police/shape the traffic towards them to your agreed upon bandwidth in a business setting. Give it a shot. Don/t know about networking, but for graphics signal integrity regarding risers, especially pcie 4.0, the corsair is the one I never had problems with no matter the length...
most fiber isp allow direct access to the fiber via sfp. but u need to order the correct sfp modul. then u can just put any pc/whatever on it. there is a video about this
Thanks! You didn't miss it. Without running the copper ones I've left it running for over 24 hours with the lid on and the Intel 520 was cool to the touch.The modules weren't bad at all. I'm going to keep an eye on it. Maybe another pair of small fans at the rear to draw from front to back like the ones in the cpu area.

It's fiber into the house into their Nokia ONT but then after that it is copper on the backside where it connects to any customer equipment.

I plan on asking if they'll let me use one of the ont sfp+ modules.
Watch the temps on that card and modules. I didn't see any airflow that'll be directed at them, unless I missed it.
