This was a great horror thriller that pulled at the heartstrings. The two lead kids made the movie with their great acting. Their believable strong sibling bond was so heartwarming. The boy who played Finney was very likeable and made you feel sympathetic for him because of the shit life he had being bullied at home by his Dad, then at school and then being kidnapped by a sick child killer. You felt his fear and desperation but also felt a little hopeful because of his resourcefulness. He made you root for him. The girl who played Gwen provided the comic relief with her foul mouth and you really believed her love for her brother because she never gave up trying to save Finney. I love that both Gwen and Finney inherited psychic abilities from their Mom. Finney just didn't realize he did until he really needed it. Ethan Hawke was amazingly creepy as The Grabber. I didn't know he had it in him to play such a sick, evil bastard. Director Scott Derrickson really created a gem with this one. It was filled with tension throughout but had a nice cathartic ending to make it satisfying. Thank you for sharing your reaction to it. It was enjoyable and I love how you jumped at the jump-scares. lol

Being a mom to two boys (an 8 year old and a 6 year old) I was very hesitant to watch this because your child being kidnapped is a mother's worst fear. My sister saw it and recommended it to me, promising a positive ending so I reluctantly watched it. I still wish I hadn't, because all the scenes with the kidnapped boy and "the grabber" were uncomfortably creepy; the way he played with the boy's hair and caressed his face and the things he said to him in an evil, yet creepy playful voice...uggg, it gave me chills. The worst part was when the boy tried to escape, because my heart was in my throat. I will admit that it was a well done movie with some original ideas and great acting, but I warn mothers (and fathers) will find this a difficult watch.

@@BluntReactionsBB You're welcome. Thank you for sharing your reactions. I was on edge the entire time and so relieved that Finney made it out of there alive. As a mother, I would have been traumatized if he was killed in the end, especially after all he went through to try and get out. I sobbed when he and his sister were reunited and Boy, did I ever hug both my boys extra tight after I was done watching it!

Roy, good to hear from you again! I just watched The Big Lebowski last night; one of my favorites. We were discussing Fantastic Mr. Fox (love it) during filming of The Nightmare Before Christmas today. Thanks for watching!

Ethan Hawke is great at anything, and really seems to be enjoying his place in horror films.

React to Director Richard Kelly’s 2009 movie The Box, starring Cameron Diaz and Frank Langella. An underrated gem of a psychological thriller in my opinion.

This movie creeped me out bigtime and made me so scared the whole time. Especially being a mother. Also it's not confirmed why the Grabber is broken. Whether it was due to his own child abuse OR if he had a normal childhood & still ended up broken (Which is even scarier, when you think about it). It's not confirmed because like Ethan Hawke said himself, "because it doesn't matter why he's broken, what matters is he IS broken."
The movie shows the Grabber was a sick paedophile that murders his victims after they play his "naughty boy" game. They made a few subtle signs to show what he was, hence why he was shirtless, & why one victim mentions the grabbers "favourite" part of naughty boy etc.
Also noticed that the Grabber did, in fact pick certain types of kids. The Grabber only picks boys and notice how they all have long hair, that he can play with.😖
Also, both Finney and Gwen inherited special gifts from their mother, hence why they were able to communicate with the dead unlike the others.

It's interesting The guy in the blue hat comment about "Gwen was raised to hate the cops" instead of Gwen was raised to speak up for herself. And considering you look like the type that would have been a kid who would have spoken like that to a cop especially when you feel you're being accused of something you didn't do. S*** you look like the dude that would do that now.

There was a rise in serial killers in the 70s they think because of the Vietnam war alot came back messed up Jeffrey Darma was in Vietnam tho he was plagued with thoughts of killing men from puberty it was also still taboo to be gay and he had some genetic factors too. And another uncle came back from war and told his nephew The night stalker how he liked killing people and showed him as a child lots of photos of women and men he'd mutilated and killed. And another famous one mother used to lock him in the basement with no lights for days and abused him physically and mentally til he started fantasising about killing her which he did after killing lots of women. It's misty abuse and genetics but they think there was a massive rise because women were liberated and things like hitch hiking was popular and it was easier to get victims as well as some hatred directed at the women liberation movement. Ted Bundy found out his sistér was his mum. It's not an excuse but it's seems all serial killers come from some kind of childhood abuse and obsessive thinking. Good movie.

There is definitely trauma behind a human’s decision to go down that path.

@@BluntReactionsBB we had centuries of barbaric war, we still do but not in our lives, church burning people alive skinning them alive , cutting off limbs ,some people may have DNA from a more aggressive ancestor. For survival or for perversity. Either way some people are much more capable of violence and probably a combination of genetics and family abuse systematic abuse can really create a monster but he would be fairly normal in medieval time as a tyrant but even then I'm pretty sure you'd have to have some diplomacy and control. Abuse prob is the difference of someone becoming a sas soldier, or a serial killer. Serial killer seem to be obsessive addicts tho
