    One of the more interesting takeaways from the commentary - how patient they are in letting things form up before using any energy to either chase or bridge up to potentially interesting moves. Pete messing with the sprinter by opening gaps and hearing the logic there was pretty fun as well.

    I like how how Dave just rolled off the front when someone flicked their elbow. As a Cat 5 racer still, I would have just assumed to go and take the next pull at the front. Good tactic to see used.

    • @TrainerRoad
      @TrainerRoad  6 лет назад +2

      Since Dave is an international racer, his Garmin was set up for kph instead of mph. Unfortunately, we didn't realize this until we were editing the videos and recorded data but for all future videos like this, the metrics will be the same. :)

    Loved the video! I am new to road racing and my dream is to participate in a crit race! It looks so damn fun! Where I live the level of the road riders is way higher than mine and it is really intimidating, as I am scared that they will just drop me after a few laps, however I will give it a try at some point! Please upload more crit videos. Pete is a beast! He is a behemoth on a bicycle! Hats off!

    How do you shift gears during those long intense out of the saddle sprints? I would assume that you select a gear that feels right before launching your sprint but you spin out quick and then have to shift again and again, do you shift gears while doing a hard sprint out of the saddle?

    Here's a question for you: I've always wondered if the huge base that pros do is mostly a trojan horse for weight loss (rather than mitochondria, etc., etc.). Or put differently, if I (a 6 hour/wk guy) were to lose 20 lb, I'd lose much power. If I went up to 20 hr/wk, I bet I'd lose that 20 lb, without losing power. True or false?

    • @vince5474
      @vince5474 4 года назад

      Its false. If you eat 12000kcal a day and burn like 8000 kcal you wont loose weight but train your cardiovascular system. If you dont eat enough of the right food it could be that you will destroy your muscle fibers and loose some power somehow, or you will get overtrained and even if you do 20hr/wk you will loose some energy after some weeks and feel less powerful. If you dont used to train that much there are certain points of fatigue which will occure sooner or less. peripher (not enough vascularity, mitochondria) or central (serotonin, low glycogen).Thats just a short summary. Training without or less carbohydrates will train your ''fat burning'' but wont be as effective as using carbohydrates for a powerful workout (crit or race), because it simply takes too long to provide enough energy. If you just do brevets using fat is totally ok and you wont have that high energy consumption peaks which can be fueled by carbs.

    • @TrainerRoad
      @TrainerRoad  5 лет назад

      The respect of your competitors is a valuable thing, and it is something that is earned through clean and honest racing, so we wouldn't want to make a video that glamorizes shady tactics. However, if we see shady tactics in play from other's in the race, we will be sure to talk about it!
