You should be able to upgrade this laptop to an I7 or i5.
There is a couple of things you do need to be aware of.
The i7 clarksfield based CPU do not have on-chip GPU, This will be most likely a problem if you don't have a dedicated ATI or Nvidia GPU in the laptop.
Westmere based CPU's do come with on-chip GPUs
i7s come in two varieties in this generation of CPUs. i7 with a Quad-core and 8 threads (no on-chip GPU) and the i7 dual-core 4 threads (with on-chip GPU).
The best way to identify them is by the last letters on the CPU just an m or qm.
      m will be a dual-core with 4 threads and
qm will be a quad-core with 8 threads (no on-chip GPU).
There is also XM which has got unlocked cores for the quad-core i7.
      i5-520M
      i7-720QM
      i7 620M
all of the i5 CPUs have an on-chip GPU to my knowledge.
Also the CPUs you are looking for is for the socket g-1 socket.
Here are some wiki links to the CPUs.
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Core_i5_processors#Westmere_microarchitecture_(1st_generation)_2
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Core_i7_processors#Nehalem_microarchitecture_(1st_generation)_2
You should look at upgrading to 4 GB of ram at least if have not already and I would suggest replacing the hard drive with an SSD drive.
The SSD drive will probably give the most noticeable performance increase.
Giving you faster load times and the operating system will feel faster.
If you are worried about the amount of stuff to pull apart to get to the CPU. It might be worth just upgrading the ram to an SSD drive first.
Just make sure that if you do an upgrade of the CPU, the CPU you get will work with your GPU setup or to be safe just get the dual-core M CPU.
      We hope that helps.
let us know what you plan to do and good luck.
      Thanks for watching.

Most of them are ordered from international sellers (most of the CPUs I have bought are from china via EBay) so you have to be patient to get the cheaper prices.

It should give you about a 15% to 20% increase in speed. Which is a nice little speed boost.
If the cost is cheap enough and you are fine in stripping the laptop down it probably worth doing.

Amazing video Sir. May I ask for some recommendations or suggestions? I own a eMachine PAWF5, T4400 Intel Pentium processor/Intel GMA 4500M, 2GB DDR3 memory, 250GB HDD but not anymore because when my father had it for repair, the original piece was replaced with a poor one. However I don't care about it anymore because we can't take it back. What I wanna do now is just upgrade as long as it's able to handle todays apps and game streaming. Hoping for you response Sir. Your new sub btw!

    • @OFFbitTech
      @OFFbitTech  3 года назад +3

Unfortunately the T4400 is core 2 based and being a mobile device it's also not as quick as it's desktop counter parts. Mobile cpu's that are in laptops are design for power efficiency which is always makes a cut back on compute performance to achieve better battery life.
The intel GMA graphics does not really play to many games at all. We were thinking of making a video with intel GMA graphics but we really did struggle to find any thing remotely new that could run in the GMA graphics.
I'm sorry to say, but gaming on this machine for more recent games is out of the question. you upgrade path also is pretty much restricted to mobile core2 cpu's but the real nail in the coffin is the gma intel graphics.
The laptop should be fine to watch video's though streaming services you might need to put a faster core 2 cpu in.
Word processing and web stuff should be ok as well.
Sorry that we could not give you good news.
      Thanks for watching.

But not all the i7 CPU's work.
Any of the i7-7xxQM and i7-8XXqm or i7-9xxXM wont work.
This is because the Clarksfield CPU's don't have an on CPU GPU.
Since this laptop does not have a dedicated discrete video card (NVIDIA or AMD Radeon).
Using a QM or XM chip will not work.
Any of the i7 6xxM series will work though.

please respond 🙏 I've emachines e-725, very old machine. with pentium t-4400 ram-2 gb, HDD. can i upgrade it to and I5 6300u, ram-8gb, 256 SSD? I've read that I can not, because of the BIOS can't process high power. so, could you please tell me, what will be best budget upgrade for my laptop? 💻 thank you

    • @OFFbitTech
      @OFFbitTech  3 года назад +1

Unfortunately the i5 6300u is a completely different platform. Which means the i5 cpu is not even compatible with the motherboard. :(
Your best option for upgrade options for your laptop would most likely be...
Find a Core 2 duo socket P CPU from second hand markets like eBay. something like a Core 2 Duo (mobile) T9300 (cheaper) or a T9500.
Your ram is ddr2 so you should be able to get to 4gb all up or 8gb (2x sticks of 2gb or 4gb).
you should be able to get a standard sata SSD hard drive in there easily, direct swap over just need to install windows on it.
Now because of the age and the lack of information i can find on your emachine laptop some of the above could be incorrect but should be right.
Information I found about your laptop below.
      cdn.cnetcontent.com/0e/a0/0ea08be9-f26a-408b-b7fb-ac8002e8eb6d.pdf
Also bear in mind to change a CPU can be a complete strip down of the laptop. Fortunately older laptops seamed to sometimes be better set up for upgrades but not all are like this.
Just a few other things to note.
Your motherboard can not support CPU's with a faster FSB than 800mhz according to the GL40 chip set upgrade information at
      CPU-Upgrade.com
      www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Intel_(chipsets)/GL40_Express.html
Which I believe will rule out any quad core CPU's which generally are expensive anyway from this era.
Also searching the core 2 t9300 on Wikipedia can be helpful, it shows all the specs of all the CPU's from that era in one spot.
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Core_2_microprocessors#%22Penryn-L%22_(45_nm)
The other option would be trying to find a cheap second hand laptop with specs you are wanting.
We hope that helps, unfortunately older laptops can only be upgraded so much, but some of the not top higher tier parts are actually pretty cheap second hand.
Good luck with you upgrade we hope we have shed some light on the situation and thanks for watching.

But you are right you need to make sure you get the right i7 since there are quad core versions with no graphics and dual core versions with graphics.
The i7 chips that comes with the Intel graphics that should work in this laptop are.
      i7 620m and i7 640m.

Hi. I have the same laptop, and it has been a project laptop for me. I have replaced the keyboard. and been trying to upgrade the SODIMM initially to 2 pcs 8GB 1600 DDR3, but I guess I was wrong with this. I think it has to be just PC1333 1066 with a max of 4GB each slot. Am I right? Also another question, is the i5 520m the highest processor that this board can handle?

    • @OFFbitTech
      @OFFbitTech  2 года назад +1

The max ram capacity that the CPU can use is 8GB, now there is a situation where the individual chips on the ram need to be I believe 256 8bit chips, not the 512 sized ones.
So I think you need to find 2x 4GB sticks that basically have chips on both sides of the ram stick to get the max of 8GB of ram.
Now your system can basically run any Socket G1 CPU, but there are the issues some of the I7 CPUs do not come with an on-chip GPU. which you do require for this laptop since there is no dedicated GPU (Like NVidia / ATI Radeon).
The best i5 CPU you can use should be the i5-580m
(wiki link of i5 CPU's check the socket)
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Core_i5_processors#Westmere_microarchitecture_(1st_generation)_2
The best i7 CPU you can use should be the i7-640m
(wiki link of i7 CPU's check the socket and make sure it has a GPU shown with GPU frequency. Arndale based)
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Core_i7_processors#Westmere_microarchitecture_(1st_generation)_2
any CPU with an i7-xxxQM or i7-xxxXm on the end will not work (these CPUs don't have an on-chip GPU and are of the Clarksfield Architecture).
Intel CPUs info top i5 / i7 you can run (also note 8GB ram max in datasheet)
      ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/49652/intel-core-i5580m-processor-3m-cache-2-66-ghz.html
      ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/43560/intel-core-i7620m-processor-4m-cache-2-66-ghz.html
It's also worth replacing the standard magnetic drive with a SATA SSD.
Make sure when you order the CPU it's the Socket G1 version not the soldered on type.
      We hope that helps,
      Thanks for watching.

You should be able to, However, you CAN NOT use the i7 720qm, 740qm, 820qm, 840qm, 920xm or 940xm. The qm and xm CPUs do not come with an internal gpu. If you have a discrete graphics card this is not a problem, however, the E729Z, the example from this video anyway does not come with a dedicated video card option (usually an Nvidia or AMD Radeon GPU).
So you should be fine if you stick to the i7 6xx series eg i7 620m or i7 640m. Also, it's worth noting that the 6xx series i7 is very similar to the i5 being a dual-core with hyperthreading. Though I believe the i7 has higher clock rates and more l3 cache.
      I hope that helps,

We did not try anything more than 4gb of ram. It should be able to take 8gb of sodimm ddr3 ram using 2 sticks of 4gb. However we have read that you need to make sure the chips that are used on the ram are 256Mx8bits chips anything bigger like 512Mx8bits will not work.
The best way is probably find 4gb stick that memory sticks on both sides of the board and have about 8 chips on each side (16 in total adding up both sides).
This is something we have not tested so we can't guarantee it will work. But it should be possible to get 8gb of ram it might be touch and go).
The CPU upgrade should be the same as this video as well so that is a little more straight forward but more involved.
Thanks for watching we hop that helps.

The good news is, your CPU is most likely a socket based CPU.
The CPU is a socket G1,
You should be able to upgrade to most of the G1 socket based CPU's.
If you don't have a dedicated GPU don't use the i7 qx or xm CPU's (they are the quad core 8 threaded CPU's but don't come with a dedicated on chip GPU)
I would say all the i5 will work from 1st generation with a Socket G1
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Core_i5_processors#Westmere_microarchitecture_(1st_generation)_2
as well as the arndale i7s with socket g1
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Core_i7_processors#%22Arrandale%22_(MCP,_32_nm)
You should be able to run 8gb of DDR3 Ram using both channels (2x4gb sticks) on the HM55 chip set.
1 stick of 8gb probably wont work so stick to 4gb sticks.

From what we can find the CPU looks like it should be socket-ed not soldered. Which is the first thing you need to check. If it is soldered in, there is no chance on the upgrade.
The board should be able to take an i5 m or i7 m cpu but it wont take a i7 qm cpu. The i7 qm cpu's don't have a GPU on them, which Im guessing you laptop uses Intel graphics which is from the CPU (so if this is the case stay to CPUs with an m on the end like i5-XXXm or i7-XXXm).
Our thoughts are that you should be fine to upgrade just don't get the quad core i7-XXX qm cpu.
Here is the list of i7 cpu's from wikipedia, your motherboard should have the Socket G1 socket.

We would recommend using an SSD drive. This will make you laptop feel a lot more snappier and boot times will be a lot faster. It will also save you battery.
Running windows 10 we would recommend at least 4gb but 8gb would be ideal.
The things you will need for a good windows 10 upgrade:
      - SATA SSD Drive ( get the 512gb as you wanted)
      - 2x4gb Sticks of DDR3 ram for laptop to get you to 8gb of ram (They are called SODIMM)
      Other things to fix.
Overheating will be down to dust build up and the most likely cause the CPU needs new heat-sink compound. It's a paste you can get fairly cheaply. Over a long time it dries out and becomes more of a heat insulator than a transfer. The other more unlikely situation is the cpu fan has failed. Just check if you can feel air blowing out from the left hand side near the back of the laptop.
The battery will probably need replacing if it does not hold it's charge. You should get about One and half to 2hrs out of it at least. If not good chance the battery needs replacing. Also if the laptop is running poorly it will chew battery up thinking and loading.
The i3 cpu probably would suffice for now but if you wanted to upgrade you should be able to get an i5 or i7 (you wont be able to use the Quad Core i7 because of it's not having an on chip graphics processor, these usually have a qm on the end of the cpu model). You will need to stick to first gen i5 and i7 mobile processors.
Wiki has a nice list of them.
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Core_i5_processors#Westmere_microarchitecture_(1st_generation)_2
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Core_i7_processors#Westmere_microarchitecture_(1st_generation)_2
You will need to make sure that your cpu is not soldered on, which it is most likely not in your case. The cpu socket for your laptop motherboard will most likely be Socket G1. Otherwise it will be a soldered on socket named BGA-1288, if this is the case we cant really upgrade the CPU.
The hardest part with the CPU upgrade or changing heat-sink compound is the opening of the laptop. Take your time, we use jewelers screw drivers and a guitar pick top open out laptops as you have probably seen.
here is a video we found that might help you open up your laptop.
      ruclips.net/video/ghSf6ALBUV4/видео.html
Anything CPU related is quiet involved and probably hard to do and usually requires the motherboard to be removed or partially removed from the laptop. The ram and hard drive upgrade should be fairly easy. They are both located underneath the first panel at the front of laptop from the bottom.
      Good luck.
      Thanks for watching.
Let us know how it goes.

@@OFFbitTech I just looked in settings just now for the first time... So this is what I found it's already windows 10 and have 4gb memory wait I'll list the abouts:
      Processor: Intel (R)Core(TM)i3 CPU M330 @-2.13GHz 2.13 GHz
      Installed RAM: 4.00GB(3.68GB usable)
System Type: 64- Bit operating system, x64-based processor
      Windows specification
      Edition Windows 10 pro
      Version 2004
      Installed on 12/7/2019
      Local disk (C:)- 232 GB
      42.6GB used 189 GB Free
I think the only problem is it's slightly lag always, overheating and easy to lowbat...
I'm planning now to buy new battery I want to be sure now that I'll buy legit one bc my father buy battery before to the seller for $50 and it's fake(that's what I'm using now) it's lister there 5500 mAh but only lasted 1 hour at the very least...
Also yes, there's a hot wind when using in left part of laptop
Can I ask more pls? If I change the 4gb to 8GB am I able to attend zoom meetings without problem/lag or overheating?
I just need to use this for online classes/attending zoom meetings..
Bonus question, Can I play Roblox or League of legends here? Just one game? Can I?😭🙏

@@VoiceOfPeak Not sure, what zoom needs.
Is it giving you problems at the moment?
I'm not entirely sure if 8gb of ram will give you a smooth zoom meeting. Possibly, but it may be a processing power issue.
You can grab a little bit of extra performance turning off some CPU patches that windows has added.
This is easily done with this program
      www.grc.com/inspectre.htm
You will need to run it as administrator.
This program disables an microcode patch released by intel to stop a couple vulnerabilities. These microcode updates makes cpu takes a performance hit. So disabling them does give you a bit extra compute power.
Also to check how your CPU temperatures are going you can use HWMonitor.
      www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html
This will tell you a hole heap of information and temperatures.
Here you can check what your cpu is doing.
From here you can tell if you need to redo thermal paste.
If you can find out what hard drive you have. Hopefully you may already have an SSD drive.
Now in regards to games, Unfortunately there will be very little that will run and this is more down to api support from the onboard GPU.
In regards to games. League of legends and roblox should run, not sure how well though, they may not be playable.
The first gen and second gen i3 i5 i7 Intel onboard HD graphics drivers are very badly written for windows 10. So it is a guess to what runs and what does not.

@@OFFbitTech for now I tried it and zoom is going okay but im still not sure when it become many...
I'm hesitating on what will i buy because i don't want to get scam again how to know if the battery is original? That really last 4 hours? Or should I just buy power bank and plug it while im in zoom meeting so i won't be low battery? Is it bad idea?
Also i decided to not play games bc i don't want to end it up worster..
Edit: I already used the webcam and i decided to just buy new

@@VoiceOfPeak Unfortunately we have little experience with web cameras also I don't think you will find a battery that will give you 4hrs of use for this laptop. Our guess would be somewhere near 2hrs for it's max.
In regards to the battery. We really don't know to much about the subject. But I would not be to worried about a 3rd party battery. Some of them are made well.
Might be worth finding a brand that has a warranty or return policy. We suggest this as it might be hard to find a genuine battery replacement and also the genuine replacement could be old as well. Which is no good for batteries. The newer the better in our thought.
The other thought is you probably wont find a battery that can last 4hrs with this laptop.
If you are trying to find a battery with the most capacity check the mAh rating.
The best we found at a glance was 5200mAh.

Why when I change the cpu into i3, the laptop is not opening only the blue light in 1 sec?

      @OFFbitTech  2 года назад

You may need to reopen the laptop back up and check all your connections and cables have been attached.
Did the CPU seat in happily when you installed it.
Maybe a bent pin on the CPU may cause it to misbehave.
But check internal connections and cables first.
Start with the easiest things to check before the more complicated stuff.
