i don’t know about that lenovo but if you want to replace its better to go for i7 with a quad core for any purpose since it provide the most horsepower for old laptop.

Yes. So far I replaced a lot of laptop cpu, most of them successful. Only some lenovo and hp laptop have some bios locked that only some cpu supported. But can be bypass with custom bios. Overall most laptop can be upgraded based in my experience.
