At 59 years old and with no experience whatsoever, I've started a RUclips channel just for the hell of it. Absolutely no viewers as yet, but can only get better. Thanks for the tips!
HONESTLY! Starting a RUclips channel is 2024 does feel like it’s too late but it’s NOT! I started my channel in 2023 and looking forward to my growth in 2024 as I become more consistent. The first step is to just start! Don’t talk yourself out of it. Rooting for all new creators. ✨
THIS!! I also just started in 2023 and it's been a very fun journey so far!! So nice to also see other creators like you and I who are at the beginning of our YT journey... We can do it and it's super exciting! ✨
It’s not too late and all! I started in 2019 but I didn’t stay consistent! Since then I’ve kept on going with my channel 💪🏿. I am planning to be more consistent this year! We can do it 🎉
Yes! I started back a decade ago but not seriously, then I dove back in trying it out creating one per month sticking with it. This year I am upping my videos to two times per month and seeing growth - slow but steady! Plus they are a great addition to my website to help round out the content on there.
I have Cystic Fibrosis and really want to help others with CF and their families, so I decided to start a RUclips channel to provide educational, inspirational, and informative videos to bring together our community (due to cross contamination we can't spend time together) together. Your videos have inspired me to just get started and use what I have for equipment and knowledge! I appreciate all the work you put into your videos and I truly hope my videos can be as strong as yours. Happy 2024!
"Don't edit your personality out of the video," is some of the best advice I've heard in a long time, Katie. I'd be very interested to hear more about how you approach being 'real' in your videos. You're very engaging while also being succinct and professional. Not something easy to achieve, and a skill we could learn from you.
So true! I'm still learning, but that's what I use. I think that using whatever you have when starting out is best. Eventually, I will get a better phone with a better camera, but for now, using what I have will work just fine.
I just started taking mine seriously last month I tried starting years ago but was so afraid and uninformed and didn’t have a niche. Now that I know myself better I feel ready to dive in! Not going to stress about numbers, just trying to have fun while posting consistently
You should have millions of subs. You have hit so many points that nearly no one else talks about. Great great video!!! (also subbed) and can’t wait to binge.
Katie, I’ve been on “RUclips hiatus” for a looooong time and this info is really going to help me kick start my channel again. So helpful. Thank you always for what you do and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I don’t think it’s too late at all!! I’ve learned so much by sitting back and watching several you tubers. So many are the same type selling or you tubing about the same things. 2024 is the time to change it up and not be like everyone else!! 😍
True story- I watched this video, remembered the EUCOS tripod, and bought one Then I felt guilty I didn’t do it through your affiliate link 😂(I’m an entrepreneur too) Turns out they work well as low budget tripods for cameras too, as long as I set and point them without needing to swivel. I came back here to go through your link this time- and bought two more EUCOS tripods. Your content is great! I’ve had a show on PBS but was always in front of the camera. I’ve been learning a lot from you and other creators on YT. 🙌
I’m a newbie on book-tube and also a planner/ organizer at my core. I loved your tip about a b-roll library and labeling method!! Also keeping your personality is a great tip 💕
You are totally correct, I believe it’s definitely not too late at all to start a RUclips channel for anyone. The audience on RUclips is very wide and it keeps growing. There’s still people somewhere in the globe that are discovering RUclips even in 2024.
Great video thanks for the advice. I started my channel in 2033, so I’m looking forward to growing in 2024. I think it’s important to show your authentic self, no one is perfect so showing flaws can resonate with your community
Been wanting to be a youtuber since I was a kid(i’m 18) and finally actually started doing it in November of last year! I still struggle with ideas and how to get people interested in watching. I post about it on my instagram and snapchat for friends and people that follow me but I doubt they actually watch them. I also always ask on my instagram story for video ideas and Q+A questions and people never respond, so those are my real issue! So thank you so much for this video!
I definitely agree with the engagement point. It took me a while with my channel to discover my viewers were here for me because I was here for them. I’m not here for views and clicks. I want to have a community who cares. I just found your videos today and I will be back
Thank you, Katie!! I've BINGED your videos because I really want to start my channel this year. Would you ever make a video on how to make those Premiere templates and organize folders, etc??
Hi fellow Katie watcher! 😊 She actually has 2 videos that I specifically know of where she goes over this. One is called “File organization hacks for creators” and the other is “5 Quick ways to make content creation easier” just search for it on her channel and enjoy!
Awesome video! Thank you so much! I love that you showed how easy it is to set up that tripod! Every time I open and close my three tripods each with 2-3 locking extensions on their legs I think to myself that there must be a better way 😆!
Katie, thank you so much for the informative content. They are encouraging and put me in activation mode. I have my 1st quarter planned. Now, I just need to do the thing!
Thank you for this informative video. I am watching a lot of videos like this trying to find one that is relative to my content. I simply do a 3-4 minute video to entertain folks with one of my alter egos and simply get curious about maximizing what I can do. Not for money, but for fun. I should probably be on tictok instead of youtube, but don't want to.
Hi Katie, love all your videos, they are so informative. I know this may be specific but could you do a video on how to save and edit from a external hard drive and how to organize your footage and slides etc. Your last video was so good. Maybe like how to keep your computer healthy etc.
I love all your videos and you are so great at explaining everything! One thing about me is that if I click on any person's video I always watch the whole thing lol. I feel like if someone were to watch one of mine I would really appreciate them watching mine through also. Thank you so much Katie.
Gurrrrrrlll!!! 😜 you are the best! After trying to find a good Chanel that could guide me with my interest to create my own channel I just find it! thanks for sharing.
I just got hired for a shoot and have been considering a RUclips channel also. Thanks so much for your awesome videos. I come from a News background and don’t know much about the new digital gear. I am so happy it’s much cheaper and lighter though and yes it’s so nice to be more discrete with your phone or a smaller camera. Thx for the links too!
I started mine and it’s going to take a lot to get it where I need it. But I’ll be doing podcast where people can share their rescue animal stories or any story that is relatable to heart warming animal stories. I also share some health related content. I still film on my I-phone 13.
Hello everyone! ❤ Definitely start your channel, its fun and rewarding and you get to connect with others that enjoy what you create. I'm only small but growing, I love making videos and helping others. It's scary at first but after I made a few videos I was shocked at myself from thinking why was I so stupidly scared to even put 1 video out!?😅😮 Remember.. "EVERYONE HAS SOMETHING DIFFERENT TO OFFER." ❤😊 Now go start, it won't start without YOU ! ! ~x~
i posted my first youtube video a few days ago after years of wanting to but being too scared. but i’m sooo happy i did and i’m excited to keep creating!! this video was clear and has great advice for beginners like me, thank you 💕 just subbed!

Hi Katie. I just wanted to say thank you for amazing content. You always brighten my day and enlighten me with new knowledge. Appreciate you and everything you do. Happy New Years🩵
I absolutely loved this video! I learned that starting with what you have, even an older phone, can still get you amazing quality for vlogging. I had no idea how important thumbnails and titles are for getting views; they really can make or break a video. The tip about mixing videos for new audiences and existing fans is super smart! I also liked how you talked about balancing a fast-paced edit with showing personality. It’s so true that we want to connect with creators, not just watch a robot! Thanks for all the tips!
Katie, I really appreciate your content full of your experience. I so want to start my own presence and your practical advice is so helpful. When I finally do it I will let you know!
I have been getting coerced to start my own RUclips channel but always feel overwhelmed in the start up process and trying to start seems daunting and being extrovertly open and accepting of it, I feel is challenging. Am comfortable with the tech requirements as considering myself to be quite techy.
Hey Katie, massive thank you for this video! I loved all the tips and strategies you included, especially about not editing out your personality. It's nice to hear that from bigger channels that I look up to (: very inspiring! Cheers, Benny
I actually really enjoy seeing someone's personality shine through and getting to know the person a bit so I'm really glad you talked about not editing out personality. Great video so thank you! Very good information from a total newbie. 🙂
Another awesome video Katie and yes a mobile phone is great for filming on the go. Even Android phones have good cameras but editing is better done on my laptop with Filmora. Love 🥰 the video and love 💕 Katie.
I just subscribed to your channel. The reason is you’re mellow to the point supportive personality. Just thought I would mention this in case the feedback helps you to stay true to who you are in the future by recognizing that this is a strength unique to you.
oh my god 😭 i just discovered your channel and am really wanting to get serious about a youtube channel and eventually a podcast and your lockscreen being the jonas brothers HAS to be a sign i’m in the right place 🥹
It is never too late to start something you have the desire for! I start my channel last year, just out of curiosity. There was a whole week of where I would think and think of starting it, so finally one Sunday afternoon I spent couple of hours of trying to shoot a video. It took me quite a while, but I made one. You need that 1st one to start and after that you have to be consistent. Over the summer I stopped of making anything and that was my mistake. Working full time job and now when I just entered the college life, I promised my self and the small audience that I built that I will make 1 video a week. That will keep me on the loop and to be consistent. It is very hard for me to speak. Being a foreign person and trying to say all the words I want sometimes I stop quiet often to think for something, but with practice and checking out other youtubers for suggestions and some friends help I learn how to cut things I don’t need. Overall it is great experience and it just adds a little more knowledge to my skills. So even if I don’t make a big channel it is very refreshing and fun to make a video❤
Thankyou Katie this has been very helpful. I love the Van life im heading that way this year. travelling Yogi so this information is great for me to get started :)
Great work! How do you do it - I watch you for more than a year and still fill inspired after videos for beginners, you always bring some new perspective in them!
Katie, nice job...I do like the pacing of your videos, as they don't make me stressed like so many other videos coming from young people nowadays. Yes, it's a hard balance, as you say, to include your personality (your personal style) in the video; but, at a certain point, the creator just has to accept that not everyone will like his or her individual style and presentation. Honestly, the best part of being 65 is that you no longer care about whether people 'accept' you, or whether your tone is not to their liking. P.S. Your music choice underneath the presentation here is spot on, just matches the nice balanced informative (but no manic) conversational tone that you have. Great job, overall, excellent information, thank you!
Happy New Year Katie! I've been watching your videos like crazy the past 4 or 5 months to prepare, and I'm going to start in 2024! I started with just shorts the past 2 months to practice but ready to take the next step :) Thanks for all your advice!
I'm a 64 yr old newbie, my "Revvl" android works fine, I have a camera because sometimes ya just gotta have one. I'm about to tackle learning to edit. ❤❤❤yikes $300 for an editing upgrade...my niche is Paranormal Investigation. I have a Ford Transit Connect for summer van life! It's currently "The Spirit Seeker" mobile studio! (It's too bloomin' cold up here in Mass. to be videoing outdoors without a warm up place!) So I love your style of simplicity! Thanks so much!
i’ve literally been wanting to start a channel for so long but life’s happened and all but now and then i do still make videos on my phone and vlog around but the only thing stopping me is my phone storage not letting me edit my videos like before so i have no way to edit and upload 😩 I’m saving up for a macbook so i can start my dream i really feel like it’s part of my purpose & want to inspire people to love theirselves & give advice while vlogging i’m so excited and ty for this video!
Absolutely seconding that youtube is like the new TV. My channel is *FINALLY* gaining momentum, and honestly so many people are watching my channel **literally on tv**.
Just started my channel a month ago. Learning heaps and videos like this are great. Suggest watching this a couple times as you miss parts first time round. Great work 👍
I am a new subscriber, and I am so glad I found you. This content is so informative. I have a Podcast and seriously thinking about doing RUclips within the next three months.
This motivated me to gain enough courage to make this vlogging journey happen this year thank you and thanks people in the comments for the boost of encouragement!!😊
Thanks for sharing your wisdom! Question about the Rode microphone: Have you plugged it into the laptop microphone jack? I want my mic to be good during shooting but also good for voice-over added in post-production. Don't want to buy more than one mic right now.
I want to start a youtube channel for the longest time but been stressing myself about what niche i should be, what should i do etc, but I have been considering if I should just do it and not focus on what is my nihe or anything, just start and learn with time. Would you recommend to do that?
Thank you for the tips! I’m going to balance my channel. I want to do lifestyle and vlogs but I have noticed that my searchable videos perform better. Good luck to everyone! 🍀
At 59 years old and with no experience whatsoever, I've started a RUclips channel just for the hell of it. Absolutely no viewers as yet, but can only get better. Thanks for the tips!

I just looked at your channel! You started a few months ago & look! I’m starting I’m officially starting THIS MONTH! Just subscribed to your channel ❤
Yes! I started back a decade ago but not seriously, then I dove back in trying it out creating one per month sticking with it. This year I am upping my videos to two times per month and seeing growth - slow but steady! Plus they are a great addition to my website to help round out the content on there.
“Don’t edit out your personality.” That really resonated with me! SO good!
it's such a fine balance to strike, but so important!

For newbies....you don't need an iphone specifically. An Android eg. Samsung is equivalent to an iphone
Exactly! These type of videos ALWAYS talk about using an iphone. Not all of us have an iphone. I have a Samsung.
I use a Samsung note 9
Correct! I film everything on my Samsung and it's not even the newest
So true! I'm still learning, but that's what I use. I think that using whatever you have when starting out is best. Eventually, I will get a better phone with a better camera, but for now, using what I have will work just fine.

Sounds like a great niche! How exciting! I’m planning to move to Mass in the next 12 months. Love it there. 😊
@@VanessaKittredge we have an insane housing shortage, plan accordingly!!!
i’ve literally been wanting to start a channel for so long but life’s happened and all but now and then i do still make videos on my phone and vlog around but the only thing stopping me is my phone storage not letting me edit my videos like before so i have no way to edit and upload 😩 I’m saving up for a macbook so i can start my dream i really feel like it’s part of my purpose & want to inspire people to love theirselves & give advice while vlogging i’m so excited and ty for this video!
So glad to have found your channel. I’m just starting and have no idea of what to do.
This motivated me to gain enough courage to make this vlogging journey happen this year thank you and thanks people in the comments for the boost of encouragement!!😊
I can't find that tripod anywhere. Love your stuff, btw. Really great info. Thanks for consistently posting and helping the community.
Soo much helpful content in this that I will be taking and using to grow my channel in 2024!
I love the way you describe everything slowly and clearly thank you
Yay shout out to us 🥰🥰 thanks Katie ❤️ 🎉
the sound effect and floating gear at the start reminded me of Crashbox (from HBO Family now on Disney +)
I have just started after procrastinating for three years :)
Inspiring :) I love your positive energy Katie! I'm keen to give RUclips a real shot this year :) Thank you for sharing :)
You're just killing it, thank you for your advice!
Thanks for sharing your wisdom! Question about the Rode microphone: Have you plugged it into the laptop microphone jack? I want my mic to be good during shooting but also good for voice-over added in post-production. Don't want to buy more than one mic right now.
Do you like that tripod for point straight down to film on your desk? I see that it tilts, but it seems like it would need a longer arm to work well.
