Hi friends from the Missouri River! This is Natalie, Nicole’s canoe partner. Thank you for returning her copper down jacket in the mail!!!!
It was so precious having you, Old Friends, on the river.
I noticed you said “sometime between now, and when Christ comes back”… are you fellow believers?

Greetings Natalie, Good to hear from you and glad Nicole got her jacket back, I think she might have missed that. We started getting a few storms towards the end of that trip. As for the faith I fit into the 'agnostic' category and use the 'Christ coming back' as a way of saying something will get done but I don't know when.

Have watched and enjoyed the full Western Walkabout series guys. What a great, entertaining and professionally produced series. Excellent work by you two and the behind the scenes team ... Wilm's family I think. I saw somewhere? Thanks for a great watch! Love the bright vivid colour scheme on our title pages too. Adds to the whole feel very nicely 😀

Awesome Paul. Glad you enjoyed the series, it was fun to make. The Wilms mob are quite talented actors for the historic reenactments. Otherwise are behind the scenes team is just me and Wilms. We're off on a 100 mile canoe trip which we're going to film so more films on the way.

+wilhelm horstmann Cheers Wilhelm. Part 2 will be being worked on within the week. Summer and myself lived in Africa for 6 years doing the over landing stuff. We did lots of filming but lacked some of the equipment we have today. Africa was awesome so when I get the chance I'd like to revive some of the footage.

    Mr. Foreman and Wilms,
Suggest the San Juan Arm of Lake Powell. 33 miles upstream from the junction with the Colorado. Once went in November and spent 96 hours without seeing another person.
Bring a backup motor. 84 miles from the launch at Wahweap in Page Arizona. I carry 35 gallons of gas for an 18 hp mercury and a 10 horse evinrude. The most isolated water access wilderness in North America. At 22 mph it takes about 5 hours to get from Waheap to the great bend on the san juan. 6 lbs stripped bass common. There is no help and no people. Mostly sandstone canyons with water in the bottom. I liked it better than Yellowsonte. Almost no bugs and no bears to eat you. I run a 14 foot aluminium boat. Oct and Nov best. Lake is calm. Spring can sink any boat. Spring is 55 mph winds common,
Excellent side canyon hiking. Great Bend has spring on the south side. I have stuff still stored there. I made about 21 trips. I do enjoy your videos. America has some great deserts. Like the Saline Valley between Death and Owens Valleys......
    Mike

Greetings Mike. My apologies for a very late reply. Thanks for the suggestion on the lake adventure. We just did the Mohave road which exceeded very high expectations. Like I had very high expectations indeed and it still blew me away. We are investigating a canoe trip on the Alagash waterway and Green river so what you've suggested is intriguing. I've noticed the winds down that way in spring are a bit fierce. 5 hrs in a 14 foot tinny is quite a trip..

      Afternoon Mr. Foreman and Wilms,
84 miles from Wahweap to the Great Bend on the San Juan. Timing is everything. Spring is dangerous.
Potatoe patch waves reflect off perpendicular cliffs and winds can easily blow 50 mph. Lake Powell does not calm down until May 22. October is my favor month. It can be like glass for days. I carry 35 gallons of two stroke fuel.
I burn about 10 gallons with 25 hp motor.with just me and gear in the boat from Wahweap to the Great Bend.. Once you are past the Great Bend you are on your own. The altitude is 3600 feet which does affect the horsepower and carb settings.
No cell phone reception. And no one to help you after the Great Bend.
I drink water from several springs. I do not drink lake water and neither do the birds.
Fishing is excellent. The stripers will be under the schools of shad. You can spot the shad "slurpping"
on the surface once the sun leaves the lake. During the day I troll down 40 feet with anything that looks like a shad
Or you can try and sneak up on striper boils and throw a 1 ounce spoon. .
The San Juan upstream from the Great Bend is my favor spot in North America. Unlike Yellowstone,
no big bears or misquotes to bother you. But nats in October. I bring a bug net.
My compliments on the Mojave Road trip. I will search for that video.
The green river is on my list of trips to take. I like the canoe idea. Simple and no motor to worry about.
Suggest you watch some Saline Valley videos on you tube. But a very bad wash board road. 40 miles of dirt.
The vibration cracked my brass radiator hose intake. Had to remove the thermostat and radiator cap to keep the pressure down so all the water would not be lost.
Thanks for all your videos. I very much enjoy watching them.
      Mike

Greetings Mike. Hope all is well with you. We’re reviewing your trip advice comments as we are currently planning an attempt on lake Powell though the San Juan section you advise is out of the way for us at present as we will be in a canoe. Currently in Moab. We tackled the green river which was awesome. We’ve got a dog with us so can’t do the Canyonlands section. Only bought a fly rod with me this trip so don’t have high hopes for strippers but I’ve caught them before on fly so it’s not impossible. Thanks again for the travel tips. Cheers.
