I've seen Caissie three times as Elsa (including the first preview of the out-of-town tryout), and all three times, she blew me away! Also, that dress... Oh, man! That dress! Why the heck did this show not get nominated for Best Costume Design?!
I can't get over it that the broadway Elsa really looks real and pretty and has a bomb ass costume and wig. While the Disneyparks Elsa looks like a mom dressing up for Halloween in summer.
Ian Smith but it’s the disney parks !! surely they have enough money to give her a decent looking wig. her wig is the worst out of all of the princesses
Elsa in the movie appears to be bare skin, with little too no makeup. so they're not going overboard. keeping it nude and simple while still incorporating makeup.
Hazel Woods I haven’t seen frozen in a while but I definitely picture purple eyeshadow? I think I’m mainly surprised because in a Broadway show, the audience are so far from your face - Therefore really heavy makeup is used to compensate for this.
Its because shes not getting ready for an actual show. Probably a photoshoot or something, because that's not the dress she'd have at the beginning of the show- her makeup is probably much much heavier when shes getting ready to go on stage
I know full well that she is not about to go onstage at the end in the wrong costume and wig for act one. She needs to waltz back into the dressing room put that transformation gown and wig on and get ready for the show
now, why in the world would they do that, they've been dressers for several years i think. maybe they didn't film the act one dress. and don't talk like that like you just "told her what to do" at least to me that's disrespectful,
This is the greatest description of what Elsa’s character story is. I’ve never heard Disney ever explain it like that. Makes it relatable to all girls, now women. ✨ ❄️ ♥️
Cassie is the only person that has played both Elphaba in Wicked and Elsa in Frozen!! Both highly coveted roles. I saw her twice as elphaba in LA. The first time she didn’t do so well, but the 2nd time which happened to be her last show was great. Looking forward to seeing her in Frozen
Alyssa Fox, the standby for Elsa, has also played Elphaba, also as standby. She was previously the principal Elphaba on the national tour before going to Broadway.
It's great if it does go onto Netflix and I hope they still put it on dvd because I have little nieces, nephews and cousins that would love to watch it and own it on dvd
I’m always so blown away by the costumes, set designs, and acting of the stage. Hollywood can cheat and use green screen and add everything, sometimes even the actors via computer programs. On stage though, you’re seeing creative magic happen before your eyes. I would love to see this show someday
WE LOVE YOU CAISSIE LEVY!!!!!! I know your son needs you more than we do! Hope they were happy for you as Elsa! You will always be Queen Elsa to us!! 💎💙💙💙💙💙💜💜
Can yall just fucking ignore her makeup. Seriously there's hardly any comment that isn't complaining about it. The fact that she stands up there and performs in a beautiful dress and wig, while being a mom is just so cool. And ik "this is her job and she's supposed 2 be used 2 the crowds" but nerves, anxiety and stress can't be avoided or predicted. She has an amazing voice and usually moms don't go around wearing a full face. Not saying they can't, I'm just saying, what if she never has time 2 practice or what if she has a set amount of time 2 do the basics or what if she doesn't want 2 pack it on and let her sweat be trapped underneath the layers. Seriously, stop picking on the dumbest most useless things. She's beautiful and gets the job done while exceeding all expectations.
Even though i prefer to see Elsa in her original animated form, Cassie does have a good voice. I spiritually connect to Elsa’s story because of how I am not afraid to tell people I have autism. And when the movie came out six years ago, I was almost 21 just like Elsa was becoming 21 when she becomes queen. I’m 26 now. Let It Go is my favorite song from Frozen tied with In Summer! If Fox ever redid Rent Live actually live, I would picture Cassie playing Maureen.
Although some iconic eyeshadow would be nice it has to be something that goes with every outfit she wear and not be crazy and perhaps be a distraction.
Anthony Lopez I understand not doing too much color, but I do stage makeup for my daughter who does musical theatre and you do the stage makeup more dramatic than normal so it shows up from a distance and with bright lights. I have a feeling this makeup wasn’t her actual show makeup but maybe for a photo shoot or just for this clip or tv.
@@lysan4878 An abundance of makeup would make her look more mature, Elsa is still a girl. Stage or not it would make her appear much older, something your daughter may be get away with but maybe not a professional actor portraying someone younger than them.
I have a lion king final audition I really hope I get the part. I love the whole broadway community and can’t wait to audition. (Auditioning for young nala)
Just watch her recently, and i loooove this show. Her voice is amazing, her acting made me feel her emotion. Definitely a MUST WATCH SHOW in broadway if you have disney heart inside like me.
This was cool. I had no idea they did their own makeup. I kind of wish this had been longer. The dress looks great and so does the hair. I think she does an amazing job as Elsa. But its clear she's not about to go onstage but I liked seeing how its done. I find it cute that they have all the artwork from kids hanging up everywhere.
Request: Character Study: Ryann Redmond as Olaf (I mean I prefer Mr.Greg Hildreth as Olaf but I'm really enchanted by that puppet so.....Yeah) let's get some likes if we want it to happen!
I love Elsa so much and all the characters and frozen no characterization sparked any more than Elsa she is the best character frozen ever had she is awesome if I had to play any character in that show it be Elsa. Elsa is so cool
Me too. As a struggling actor, singer, and dancer, I have come to appreciate this series. It really shows the insight of Broadway actors and show what they experience everytime they do a show, and how it impacts their lives outside the theater. I wish I could have that experience just once.
Late to the party! But I found what Caissie Levy said about Elsa so moving!! I live with Turner Syndrome, and Elsa as a character encourages me to embrace who I am " Here I stand in the light of day"
I love Elsa i really do. But living so far away from broadway on a place that doesnt get a lot of tours through it this is the only place i get to hear about the people playing them. I was just wondering if there will be one for Anna as well. I feel like people dont recognize her journey as much as elsas.
There might not be because I think there will be more of her in the new series on Disney+ about working for Disney? It's called One day at disney, and Patti (who plays Anna) mentioned being the representative on her twitter. But maybe that's separate from this and broadway.com will do a character study of her as well!
I think the majority actually do it themselves! They teach them the look that they want but most do their own makeup unless the look is very complicated (Lion King, Elphaba in wicked, the phantom, etc.) For a show with "regular stage makeup" it's far too big of a financial drain to have makeup artists for each role.
Most actors do their own makeup! They all learn the makeup plot for the character and do it themselves for every show. There are some exceptions like for Elphaba in Wicked and the Phantom that have more complicated makeup plots that require more skill-those people have their makeup done. But it's mostly done by the actor!
To add onto what people have said, the actors in Cats actually even all do their own make-up! So I think usually anything face will be done by the actors themselves but because Elphaba is so much including neck and hands, and Lion king either also has body paint or more intricate face make-up (thinking of the Nala character study, before it was called character study), so someone else will help with that :) On a related note, hair varies wildly, often actors will do their own pin-curls (getting hair ready to put under a wig) but I've never seen anyone actually put on their own wig, I think they're too precious! So there's usually a wig person who comes and does that, they also take care of the wigs. If someone uses their own hair it depends on how complicated the look is.
Like everyone is saying unless the role requires special effects, the actor does it all on their own after being told the design for the makeup!! People that make it on Broadway have to have many more skills then just singing and acting!! Where I'm training, the program focuses on performing but also teaches students all aspects of theatre!!
This is common in most shows. Unless there is a special requirement like wicked where she needs to be green or protecthics they do their own make up. Someone is hired initionally to create the looks and then they do a step by step procedure for the actors and they do it themselves. It cuts on over heads for the theatres and a lot of travelling companys have to do the same
I love Elsa to out of all the characters and frozen Elsa is my favorite no one beats alsa out of all the characters and frozen I just wanna holders so much ice I love her
A lot of the time on stage certain makeup on certain people doesn’t look good because of the lighting and such. I’m in theatre and that’s how it works but I’m not totally sure.

I know I like Elsa to but not her orginal movie. I like her Broadway counterpart better and her book series counterpart. Also in the short film Olaf Frozen Adventure too.
I wish she did more with the makeup, especially Elsa's signature purple eyes
That isn't really up to her and it would make her appear older.
I’m glad she kept it off because purple would be to much
krazykittymatt I wish I did the same thing to with the makeup especially Anna And Elsa’s signature eyes to
krazykittymatt ya
Elsa eyes are fucking blue!
I've seen Caissie three times as Elsa (including the first preview of the out-of-town tryout), and all three times, she blew me away!
Also, that dress... Oh, man! That dress! Why the heck did this show not get nominated for Best Costume Design?!
I think because the costumes were based on what was designed for the movie.
I can't get over it that the broadway Elsa really looks real and pretty and has a bomb ass costume and wig. While the Disneyparks Elsa looks like a mom dressing up for Halloween in summer.
Indeed but that’s to do with cost
Ian Smith but it’s the disney parks !! surely they have enough money to give her a decent looking wig. her wig is the worst out of all of the princesses
iiStrawberryBenii her coronation dress🤣🤣🤣
Her stage makeup is really subtle - You’d think it would be heavier for a broadway show?
The music made this really gloomy and kind of dark.. I feel like it could be a lot more uplifting?
Elsa in the movie appears to be bare skin, with little too no makeup. so they're not going overboard. keeping it nude and simple while still incorporating makeup.
Hazel Woods I haven’t seen frozen in a while but I definitely picture purple eyeshadow? I think I’m mainly surprised because in a Broadway show, the audience are so far from your face - Therefore really heavy makeup is used to compensate for this.
FloralHybrid yeah you’re right, that does make sense. maybe they wanted to portray a simpler look hmm
Its because shes not getting ready for an actual show. Probably a photoshoot or something, because that's not the dress she'd have at the beginning of the show- her makeup is probably much much heavier when shes getting ready to go on stage
I got to see her as Elsa in June. Her vocals are STUNNING, she is graceful and powerful, and just overall astounding.
Brooklyn DeFir I saw her in April it was amazing
I saw her in July and WOW just WOW!!! OMFG!!! SHE'S AMAZING! SHE SLAYED THE SHOW! SHE'S MY QUEEN ❄️👑⛄
I think she is perfect for playing a royal, she really has the poise and composure of a queen!
I know full well that she is not about to go onstage at the end in the wrong costume and wig for act one. She needs to waltz back into the dressing room put that transformation gown and wig on and get ready for the show
Photoshoot maybe?
her first dress is her navi blue normal dress from act one
Lol I was just thinking that !! Screaming
now, why in the world would they do that, they've been dressers for several years i think. maybe they didn't film the act one dress. and don't talk like that like you just "told her what to do" at least to me that's disrespectful,
Vera Williams honey, it was joke...

I never thought of Elsa that way, but it brought a whole new perspective of her.
Thanks Paul For bringing these Back! Love the in-depth look at characters and how the actors bring them to life! Well done!
Rebecca Joyner I’ve seen Kelli O Hara’s video for the King and I and Major Attaway for Aladdin as the Genie
Before she put the wig on, she reminded me of Lili Reinhart from Riverdale.
She even sounds like her!!
she's a mix between Lili Reinhart and Ashley Tisdale.
sameeeeee
Yes! Ive been saying that!!

Caissie is so sweet. Her voice is just magical. She's a gift to the world of broadway shows.
I’ll never get over how gorgeous that dress is
I've seen 3 different leading ladies play this role on Broadway and the West End, and Caissie still remains the best one for me! :)
That’s my painting at the 0:20 mark!!! 😍
Awesome 😲😍🤩
thats amazing!!
Ahhh it's beautiful, Henry!
No way, that’s absolutely amazing
that's rlly good

Missing the queen already xxx 😘
Caissie is beautiful inside and out!
I love how in-depth these videos are! Also, why is no one else talking about how satisfying it is to see that wig fit perfectly over Caissie’s head? 😍
Elsa’s purple eyes are just as iconic as her braid and ice gown

Yeah....where’s the purple eyeshadow?
It's not her choice, they have specialists who watch the show from the house and tell the actors what to do for their makeup
caissie is amazing, she's just the best elsa there could be. I saw her twice and she's just unbelievable

A lot of the time on stage certain makeup on certain people doesn’t look good because of the lighting and such. I’m in theatre and that’s how it works but I’m not totally sure.
Dark shadows don't show up on stage like they do in person, they make your eyes looks droopy and dark and it reads bad in most lighting :)
