@@DimmyV I have a neo, 2 Air 3's and one Air 3S. Absolutely loving my new 3S. I've been making use of the lidar sensor and flying a lot at night lately. Your videos have been super helpful!
Great Video Dimitris!!! You have really made the most of Limassols Building Landmarks to show your point in this video!! Esp Limassol Del Mar which looks great lit up at night!!
Yeah same as me! Some people use them but prefer no ND at night! I will try locking my ISO and letting the shutter be on auto! Thanks a lot for your information! Means a lot, massive respect 🫡
I meant sharpening set at -1 and noise 0! Although I don’t quite understand it all. I think u should make a video explaining the styles with examples. I mean this video was so well explained so I know u will go do a fantastic job! 👍🏻
I actually have the sample footage record. I just need to edit the video. People talk about sharpness all the time and I’ve been happy with default. Will see when I get round to it
HI Demetrios, interesting findings. From my tests i see that in D-Log M ISO 800 works best for 4k, 30fps video. ISO 1600 also relatively good. I must say that Normal profile works very nice, so i'm still not sure what ae the best settings to use. I even contacted DJI Support and they told me that Air 3s natively supports ISO100/800 in video mode (is it a real dual ISO?). Thanks for great content. Will be in Toronto 18-20 of Novemebr, so maybe we can try to meet for a coffee. Cheers!
Yes ISO 800 would be good but Cyprus doesn’t have as much ambient light like major cities. At least doing this helps me understand what settings to use. I prefer DLOG-M keep everything consistent with day and night. Plus can adjust colours more over normal. That interesting if the Air 3S has dual native iso. That’s not mentioned anywhere that I know of. I’m actually not in Toronto anymore. Cyprus is now my home. Where are you based? Maybe one day have that coffee. ☕️
Excellent video brother! My Air 3s was flagged today for the forced labor happening case happening with DJI. Fortunately they are sending me a unit from Canada so that’ll be here soon. I don’t mind waiting nor care about the case against them
Dji air 3s is amazing I like hlg 2100 hdr processing from vinci its look very detailed and highlight looks way better compare to rec709 and ISO 1600 is sweet spot😊
I think some people have bad image sensors. When the M3 CINE first released I noticed this. I had a fly off 😂 that got got replaced and by the time of the replacement, DJI had quietly set different chips in the camera. I would return it. There is just something about it. The night scene should look better. Maybe its my monitor or something I dunno. It can also be hard to film a building with blue lights at night.
I've yet to try night photography yet, but I've discovered that the 3X camera doesn't look nearly as sharp as the main camera. In photo mode the difference is not huge, but in video the 70mm just look a tad soft.
@ I tried sharpness-2 and 0. Soft is soft. Interestingly I compared the photos from those from my iPhone 16 Pro’s telephoto camera, in DNG. Details are actually not bad with the Air 3S, it’s just the contrast and sharpness are not very good.
When I can I try to but if I need to reduce shutter to let more light I will do so 4k30 film at 30fps. You will see this when in pro mode and set to shutter to auto. I’d rather cap iso than shutter.
I’ve not done a range test. Also with the GPS spoofing don’t want to risk anything. Normally been fine for what I do. Also more interference in populated area compared to rural.
@ thank you my friend! Great video by the way! I’ve done a 2 night flight short films and found even at 6400 in normal colour profile was all good! 👍🏻 this drone is great and everything I’ve tried just works!! At night I use -1 and 0 noise. Great drone! And again great video 💯👊🏻👌🏻
@DimmyV Traditional camera sensors use RGGB (red, green, green, and blue) filters, while RYYB (red, yellow, yellow, and blue) filters add a yellow filter to the blue filter, thereby improving the camera's sensitivity to light and improving the camera's shooting effect in low light environment. Compared with traditional RGGB technology, drone camera RYYB technology has the following advantages. First of all, it can improve the camera's sensitivity to light in low-light environments and obtain higher-quality images; secondly, it can increase the dynamic range and color saturation of the camera, improving the clarity and color reproduction of images; finally, RYYB technology can also improve the camera's shooting speed and continuous shooting ability, which is suitable for shooting dynamic scenes.
That is called Chroma Abberation and is specific to QB sensor when is enabling the subpixels as active pixels. You see it more also because of the fake sharpening applied in Air3S to fool amateurs that is "better"... :)
Am i the only one that see little to zero difference between Air3s and Air3 highlights??? To be honest, i was expecting even more performance from 1" sensor that so many people were waiting to light up the night footage. I mean, even if there is a difference, you really have to watch both footage side by side to actually tell a difference, and even then, it's difficult to tell which is which without the drone's model on the video. At start i thought that bottom footage was from air3s cause i saw the Limassol Del Mar banner more clear than the upper footage... Not to mention that if post processing, both footage can be completely identical, eliminating any differences, if any. On another note: the problem you had with obstacle avoidance detecting object that were not there is also reported by others. There are videos on youtube that demonstrate this, even on daylight, preventing them from moving closer to their subject, while being at least 100meters away. Some already reported it to dji, waiting for a firmware fix. I remember one of the videos i've seen that the pilot was trying to get close to a boat and could not. He could actually replicate the problem, it was not a one-time thing. When approaching the boat from a certain angle, it was always happening. He sent his unit back to dji and they returned him a new one that didn't have this issue. I don't know if i'm allowed to post links here, you can search for Brand New DJI Air 3S Obstacle Sensor Failure on youtube. I'm pretty sure it is a firmware/software thing, cause that guy, even with obstacles sensors off, drone kept detecting objects.
Very interesting to see I’m not the only one with overly sensitive sensors. I need to test some more before taking it further unless there’s a firmware update. It does get annoying when trying to run waypoints or getting close to objects or not even for it just say no. Appreciate the comment and you thoughts 🍻
@ The difference is barely noticeable in favor of the 3S, but considering the 1-inch sensor alone, the older 2S wins in quality. This should not be like that.

@ hopefully something it’s clearly political. When in the history of commerce has the USA carried about forced labor from outside their borders.

Thanks for comparing so many samples. Can you do another test with Mavic 3 series and show us which can retain highlights better?
I don’t have a Mavic. If DJI ever reach out to collab on the Mavic 4 would love to. Up to the audience to convince DJI in worthwhile

The only issue is that consistency when matching footage cause it doesn’t look great in the day in my opinion. Do you shoot HLG often?

Just a quick question? Do u stick to the 180 rule of shutter filming in lowlight?
When I can I try to but if I need to reduce shutter to let more light I will do so 4k30 film at 30fps. You will see this when in pro mode and set to shutter to auto. I’d rather cap iso than shutter.
And one more thing, do u use nd filters on a night shot?
Not for video. Only when I want to do long exposure photos to make use of the 8 sec shutter.
What range are you getting on your Air 3S @DimmiV
I’ve not done a range test. Also with the GPS spoofing don’t want to risk anything. Normally been fine for what I do. Also more interference in populated area compared to rural.
So can I ask how do I get that free lut from DJI?
It’s on DJI website. It’s just a conversion from DLOG M to rec709

The Autel Lite with RYYB filter has far better low light capabilities this drone
What’s the RYYB filter? I’ve been curious about Autels drone just limited funds.

Night film I mean not photo…
Not for video
I would rather say, slightly better highlights. This 1 inch on 3S is really disappointing, compare to Air 3 in all conditions.
Appreciate your insights. I guess we have to wait for Mavic 4 to see what happens
