Yeah I was wondering how Clem's style matches up against Maru. They are pretty different, with Clem almost never relying on tanks while Maru/Cure heavily relying on them, even against zergs. Should be interesting.
Genuine question, especially for that last game: Why doesn't Serral invest in Lurkers when Clem literally just does 2-prong attacks the entire game? It was a war of attrition that just ate all of Serral's bank as Clem took favorable trades all game long. Not to mention that Lurkers would allow Serral to hold onto more creep since preventing creep spread was clearly Clem's focus in a majority of games.
Serral was so close to dying all game that making a big transition would probably mean that he would die. Also, Reynor did go lurkers against him in the finals but the ghosts just kept sniping them all the time. I think that the hydra ling bane style is to account for the fact that the ghost pretty much counters every expensive zerg unit.

@@astralseeker Maybe it's because I have watched maru games for so long that I prefer different styles of terran than how maru generally plays. Same with serral. They play a lot of amazing starcraft but I tend to favor different styles and hope the players get to that same consistent level of excellence. Clem I think is really reaching his stride in games like this, he's still young and I think that he can get tilted a little easier. Same with serral and even maru these days, it's like they gg earlier that people who play a tougher from behind scrappy style. I think when you run out of people at your level to practice with you lose something. But I also think Clem will stick around and come back to the top again and again like serral and Maru in time.

Be it tvt, tvp or tvz, Maru macro, micro, game sense, positioning, early game, mid game, late game, and overall diversity of game style is zillion light years ahead of clem's ones. rewatch maru vs partying, vs trap, vs dark, vs ty of the last 3 / 4 years, and you find insane game play clem have never ever shown. mass raven, mass bc, mass reaper, all possible cheeses, 104 turret push vs partying, insane bc battles vs ty or byun, best tvt ever against ty, maru getting down to 4 vcs in mid game and wining series, destroying all the best korean players and wining 4 or 5 gsl . Clem has amazing micro, is extremely agressive with mines and currently the best european terran, but Maru in the past decade, have truly shown the most spectucular and diversified terran gameplay of the whole sc2 world. Not to mention over 1,3 million $ cash prizes.. Personally I see Maru has the best Gamer of the planet, -and I mean all videogames included-, because he plays the most amazing /complicated / clever game ever (sc2), he plays the most difficult of the 3 races, and he wins over ANY korean/european/NA players in more different ways than any other terran players ever shown. He is the true god of gaming :-)

Big oof The last thing I remember of a Serral vs Clem, Clem was dropping on 3 spots at the same time, while him and Serral were 1v1ing a Liberator and a Lurker on Clem 5th base. I can't wait for IEM next years ! Edit Spoil : what the hell, that triple evo chamber block....? Serral's defence on 4th game was insane. Those 6 lings + 2 spores perfectly placed because he knows he'll overwhelm Clem's marines at some point and he'll try to drop in the main ! Then those medivacs snipes. One single MVP viper double bomb on the medivacs too... damn man GG Clem. I have no idea what he's been doing differently from before, but back then, Serral was very good at deflecting Clem and finish him. Here, it's going the same way and suddenly Serral taps out !
Because the Terran in those times made tanks instead of widow mines I think. Tanks are slow and don't do enough damage in a single shot like widow mines do, often times against lings+banes tanks just got surrounded and destroyed without killing anything. The mines are just cheaper and much faster to make and set up, they are really great defensively against a charging melee army.
Have no idea why people keep debating on balance in this comment section, just enjoy the games, feels to me like their balanced enough as any race is still very capable of winning. This was such a great series though, just checked their previous match where Serral destroyed him, glad Clem was way more active in this series.
People can and always will debate balance in competitive games across all genres of games (RTS, MOBA, FPS, Fighting, Racing, whatever, and etc...). It really is no surprise.
Not vetoing that map AND playing Muta was the biggest mistake from Serral. All Clem needs to do was to deny Serral from mining the Gold base while defending agains the one-sided attack with better army composition. Thor Ghost Bio beat the crap out of LingbaneMuta and Ultra.
I hope this comes across as constructive criticism. I have a pair of eyes and I don't need you to tell me every tidbit of action in the game. Give some insight. Talk about what could the players be thinking. Give predictions. Have some fun. Great players, great matches but the amount of talking just made it difficult to watch.
I think to make Ghosts more fair are to have them research snipe OR they need to change weapons (aka like smart servos) from the sniper rifle to normal rifle. They are too op and have been for 10+ years.
Ghosts are expensive and require a lot of skills to use. Zerg has op queens, creep, inject and banelings, Terran has OP stim, mules, medivacs and mines. All in all, it is pretty balanced, and it depends a lot on the map pool, which might be slightly in favour of Terran at the moment. Still, there are barely any TvT finals in big tournaments.
@@oza_lup I call BS that those Terran units need much skill. Most of the time it’s F2 (maybe burrow the mines and activate stim), the rest is pretty set and forget as all Terran units are ranged. Granted the Ghost requires significant micro but the overall versatility it has over all races endgame (including T) means it needs equally ridiculous micro from the opponent.

Try a-moving a big blob of zerg units including speedbanes and see how many clicks Terran needs to use to be cost efficient against it: presplits, stutterstep, splits, stim, pickup... It was SC2's lowest population period. Nobody liked playing against it, especially lower ranked players who simply didn't have the micro skills to counter them. SC2 is a pretty balanced game, but some of the decisions they made early made it less and less fun to play as time went on. Widow mines, weak Protoss and especially Zerg anti-air, the ubiquity of marines, MULES compared to the other races' macro mechanics. Very questionable gameplay mechanics.

serral used to do different scouting strats, run bys when getting attacked + constant surrounds. what happened to that play style?
