Slug replied to my message over snap chat last Thursday (I got to ask him about this song and a song titled 'Escape Route') he said this song is actually called 'Ashtray' and it is indeed produced by Ant. #atmosphereislife
This is seriously good music. Atmosphere is feels, truth, and understanding. This is real, and I'm happy that Slug is still kickin to this day. Great rhythm, great lyrics, and overall aesthetic.
i put atmosphere down for 4 years and forgot about it. what a comeback into my brain. I think art and music are kind of a joke and cant take anyone seriously but this, atmosphere wow
@JMSONE "He used to climb trees and throw snowballs." Maby a reference to Sage's "Climb trees" ... Also "I dont know maybe Im just loving hip hop songs so much everything connects =] " I totally get that.
This video and song changed and ruined my life in a way. Goosebumps every time I hear it. The feels and experiences I've had to this song are so fucking crazy that they scare me
@gotlogg It's been a progressive change IMO. You Can't Imagine was sort of a middle ground of slowing it down and funny chaotic rapping. Lemons obviously changed it but even his seasons stuff was a bit of each, the sad clown series. Atmosphere has a crazy collective that stretches so many styles, and luckily we can all support them whether we buy only old presses or new releases. That's the beauty of technology, it's never gone completely.
If you guys like the picture, check Blockhead - The Music Scene video. Pretty similar type of trip, awesomw piece of animation. Plus he's one of the greatest producers of late.
***** I was about to comment "Because youre a female" but then i heard the line in the song. let me tell you about this AMAZING new thing some people are doing called "Quotation marks"
@NathanExplosion1989 i wrote that two years ago... I dont even agree with myself anymore. Maybe he hasn't gotten lazy but instead of making statement after statement on overcast one line at a time now he takes those statements and turns them into entire songs. Some people think its better some think its worse. Either way slug has turned into one of the best live performers in hip hop. A hell of an entertainer and an icon of the new hip hop movement.
@3n3s3n who do you think? I'm pretty sure you can figure this one out on your own. a couple clues: I refer to slug, ant, sevens travel and this you tube video is titled as an atmosphere song (I know it's at least slug). If you can't figure it out then I guess you'll never know.
@TheProduct613 sorry it's been a while since i last got on here haha, yeah i've writing since i was 14, i'm now 20....and same here man, about a lot completed but not recorded..it's hard to get into studios nowadays, my friend who helps me record is now setting up a studio 4 hours from here, which is a bummer cause i can't record some mixtapes i wanna get out there
had a juxtapoz mag with centerfold of that pardee peice about around the same time this song was in my ears still fresh. meeeeeeeeeemooorrrrrriiieeeeeeessss.
I agree with you. In my opinion, Atmosphere is not basic and not hard to understand, but yet they address real shit. I've listened to alot of shit just like you and I think definitely can say that Slug kills lots of radio rappers now, but he does not go in-depth to more complex things alot, most of his stuff is frankly said. Nothing complexed that you'd have to see or watch or know about to know what he was saying.
Rap is the art, Hip-hop is the culture. Slug is part of that culture, so this is hip-hop but it's still rap. Lil Wayne raps, but he will never be part of anything as beautiful and artful as hip-hop culture.
@gotlogg I wouldn't say he's gotten lazy, i'd say he's changed in ways that make his music progress into something it obviously was not on overcast and lucy ford. Those albums were early career pissed at everyone records pretty much, great albums none the less. He's pushing 40 if I remember right, you can't be pissed forever. He has really become a CSA almost, which I believe is a positive personally. The early listeners grew with him and may benefit more from the current style of work more.
The artist is alex pardee and he also does art for the used. He actually was sent to a mental institution as a freshman in highschool and uses his art as medication. Check a brother out.
@mbmanbat Assuming every Atmosphere song describes your life perfectly, you'd have roughly $500. SIr, unless you plan on living in a box and traveling across town to your local soup kitchen every night, you'll probably still have to work.
@layedout72 aight... maybe he hasn't gotten lazy. his story telling and ability to stick on topic is impressive and the rhymes are good. It just seemed to be something that no one else was doing before and it's not like a bunch of cats copied his styles. No slug just stopped rapping that way. I've heard people say it was angry music and shit but overcast was funnier than angry if you ask me. The lines were unique, clever and flowed like no other. Slug has stepped up live performing hugely though
Is there any information related to the artist of the cover? I've been trying to find it everywhere on the internet but it seems like it's jsut connected to this song.
say RAH. A feather pen is a quill. This is Jeprody. Or just some meaningless random words written at 3:45 about unfinished businesses bedrooms with no doors pizza rolls and sharpened knives. Then thank God I didn't die 😘Big Red Gum style
yeah. all their shit changes from album to album.. It's hard to like it all for some people. But they've remained original so I still give them tons of credit. In my opinion Ant has gotten way better and slug has gotten lazy.. more was said in two sentences on overcast than entire songs on some of his new shit. Whatever I like at least a few songs on every disc. And even though I thought sevens travel sucked he came back with a better CD and the last one kicks ass. everyone can bitch now:
At first i got disgusted at the picture, but now it looks like the "murderer" is releasing the "victim" from his "demons". for that ill respect Alex Pardee
Hm I have to check out those songs. Me and this guy have been arguing for a while about atmosphere. I don't much like Atmoshpere as a matter of fact, I think they are overrated. I think alot of forgeiners give them alot of credit because they are not gangster rap, and are more closer to the voices that are on rock on a hiphop beat. (Listening to songs, you listed) I like the lyrics, they are sick, its just that, they are not my type of hiphop. I'll give them their credit by favoriting them.

This is seriously good music. Atmosphere is feels, truth, and understanding. This is real, and I'm happy that Slug is still kickin to this day. Great rhythm, great lyrics, and overall aesthetic.

Everyday I find new atmosphere and it's always 🔥🔥
She asks where I've been. I says " I've been nowhere. No fare." What a clever line
i put atmosphere down for 4 years and forgot about it. what a comeback into my brain. I think art and music are kind of a joke and cant take anyone seriously but this, atmosphere wow

Huge Atmosphere fan but I'm just finding this song now. Anyone know what album it's off? Or if it's just a rare single?

Love the Alex Pardee Artwork!
Whos that kid that wants to use his fingers to count the days until the world ends?
@NathanExplosion1989 i wrote that two years ago... I dont even agree with myself anymore. @3n3s3n who do you think? I'm pretty sure you can figure this one out on your own. a couple clues: I refer to slug, ant, sevens travel and this you tube video is titled as an atmosphere song (I know it's at least slug). If you can't figure it out then I guess you'll never know.

with his hurt sitting in an ashtray
Heart* (I think).
sounds like heart, but if it's hurt, it could be wordplay on cigarette butts
Rap is the art, Hip-hop is the culture. Slug is part of that culture, so this is hip-hop but it's still rap. Lil Wayne raps, but he will never be part of anything as beautiful and artful as hip-hop culture.

what is that pic from??
What albums this off of?
Who's the artist of this picture?
Hm I have to check out those songs.
Me and this guy have been arguing for a while about atmosphere. I don't much like Atmoshpere as a matter of fact, I think they are overrated. I think alot of forgeiners give them alot of credit because they are not gangster rap, and are more closer to the voices that are on rock on a hiphop beat.
(Listening to songs, you listed)
