I have multiple myeloma. This is a terminal and deadly blood cancer. Last year I lost 32 pounds in a week and a half and spoke to my hematologist about hospice care. In February 2022 I noticed that I was slowly gaining weight which was a good thing. On march 23 I started power walking again. I do between 10K and 26K for now. I plan on doing another 42K marathon. I can vouch that power walking is better than running. There are a ton of benefits. When I was running my knees always hurt. Power walking solved that problem. Now I do at least one half marathon a week usually the day after chemo when I feel the worst. For me I feel so much better after. Thanks for this video. By the way, I have done almost 40 virtual races since March 23. My hemotologist is astounded.
Fasting before chemo helps to destroy the cancer and lessons the aftereffects. I also drink a quart of warm water with a tablespoon of activated charcoal after MRI's with dye.
I walk on a treadmill and raise the incline for my power walking. I'm 75 and around one percent survive my liver cancer with my comorbidities. It's now five and a half years since the surgery that removed six pounds of cancer that had eaten my gallbladder and 55 percent of my liver.
I've had better results from walking plus strength training than having just done running by itself. I always found I had this uncontrollable hunger after running that I would not have had otherwise. But I understand there are people that really enjoy running and that's great everyone is different. This was great advice really enjoyed the video.

Thanks for making this video. People love to complicate the simplest things, and RUclips videos sometimes cater to this mentality. You've cut through all the BS and have given us common sense advice and facts about walking.
Thank you so much for your advice. Love what you talk about. I lost 47.3 kilos by just walking and cutting out all fats. I walk for 41/2 hours a day, sometimes 5 hours a day and feel so good by the end of the day. My husband reckons I do to much walking but I enjoy what I do.I was well over 100kgs. My doctor was so proud of me thought I could not do it. I have been walking nearly all my life as I was big from a little girl. Now I am 64 years old and still walking. But eating less.
I walk currently because I'm 40lbs too heavy to consider running. I used to love running, so I hope to lose a few lbs and then graduate back to running, HIIT sprints particularly. Right now I use a treadmill on 4% incline for 20-30 mins, if I fancy a change, I get on the elliptical for a bit, or rower, so I'm doing some cardio for 30 mins in total every day. Keeping it low impact is what I need right now because of chronic pain issues from a previous illness, if I go too hard too soon, I exhaust myself and that stops me from doing it consistently. Better to walk consistently than run once in a while!
Not sure about the 1mile walking vs 1mile running being both 100kcal. Running is more per mile. But the rest is bang on, waking is imo better for weight loss than running especially due to the ability to keep it consistent (and longer) and keeping in the right aerobic zones for far longer (per mile let’s say). Totally agree, walking is the best!
There's some early silent film footage on RUclips of crowd scenes on a busy New York street. There are no fat people in that footage! Everyone is slim - because they walk everywhere. No weight loss "diets" and everyone ate a faily high fat diet - yet none of those people are fat - amazing, isn't it?
Walk in the morning before you eat breakfast this will help you to burn more body fat because the only fuel that is available is your own body fat this has been proven to be more effective I have tried this it really works you will notice a difference.
@@robertriefer9312 Thanks! I kinda knew that, but it's good to hear from someone else. Your comment is motivating me now. My real problem is eating too much, and not the good stuff, but that's another topic. Just curious: how cold is it winter where you on winter mornings? Best wishes.

Hi Suraj. It is very easy to fall into the trap of weight loss or weight gain being down to body fat changes. Body 'weight' comprises of more than that, muscle, water, food intake and digestive tract contents all make a shift on the scales. As you are an active person you may lose some body fat but gain some body muscle which won't move the scales necessarily but will change your shape. As for the stubborn belly fat, have you tried intermittent fasting.
If your going to spend your time walking, make it a brisk walk for an extra calorie burn. And remember... Walking is good Brisk walking is better Brisk walking up inclines (stairs, hills) is best!

Look at your diet and reduce excess sugars and refined carbs. If your diet is high in sugar and refined carbs then you will constantly have high levels of insulin, making fat burning very difficult.

My goal is 10k on-purpose steps (I don't count the steps I accumulate via my general day), and I've gained 7lbs lol 😆! Yes, I do moderated strength training 3xs a week. Yes, I drink enough water. No, I've not increased my calories (usually around 1200 daily) to compensate for the calories lost via exercise. I won't stop walking but dang it's frustrating!

Hi Phil. If you're struggling with 10,000 steps a day then I'm not sure that running is particularly going to help you, unless of course you particularly want to take up running. If that is the case then there is a program called 'Couch to 5K' that you could do a google search for or download from an app store. Here in the UK the NHS do one also. With regards the 10,000 step target, please don't take that figure as a 'target' as it is a very arbitrary number. Rather look to what is achievable for you and look to build on that gradually each week.
