Putting air tags to track someone's car is creepy enough but putting it on someones body is just straight up disturbing. The person who put the tracker on her absolutely had malicious intentions.
I'm glad they figured it out. At first I was shocked that police didn't take it seriously but then again, they usually don't. I was stalked one time and police told me "well, did he touch you or hurt you" I said no. They told me to call back when he does. I was floored over that remark.... so like this family tried to prevent a crime and were told its not serious, but if they didn't and something happened, then police would be like "well why didn't you say anything"
I had a similar situation when I was 19. A coworker who was about 30 years my senior didn't take it well when I said I had a boyfriend and wasn't interested in him and escalated quickly within the course of a day. I thought he asked "did you want a coffee from me?" but he was greek and his English wasn't great. I later I realized he was asking me out for coffee not offering me a coffee from our machine when he cornered me in the storage area and when I said "I'm sorry I have a boyfriend, I misunderstood you earlier" he punches the door and storms off. His shift ends 4 hours before mine and as I'm leaving for the night I notice a sedan with a lyft logo on it leave our parking lot and drive in the direction I'm walking. as I'm waiting to cross at a crosswalk I notice the same sedan again but don't think much of it. Then as I'm waiting at my bus stop it passes me again. 2 minutes later again, I'm the only one at the stop and its well after dark by now. It pulls up directly in front of me and he rolls the window down and at first is very smiley and friendly and offers a ride. I had the creeps by now so I politely decline. he insists again and I again say no. then he shouts "get in the fucking car" and begins to open his door as the shuttle arrives then when he sees the driver he closes his door and speeds off. I went to the police because it didn't sit right with me and they told me they can't do anything until he harms me physically or stalks me for at least 72 hours.
@@arirose5887 sorry you went through that. Its definitely scary and unfortunately, they really won't do anything about it. The family drove away from the AirTag. They shook out their clothing, got into their car, left, and noticed it wasn't with them anymore. Why did they not immediately go back to find it? How are police supposed to investigate a possible crime with no evidence?
This is currently happening to my sister. She lives in Arizona (a state that is known as a high sex trafficking area). She can’t find the physical AirTag that is tracking her and Apple doesn’t have a way to disable it without the serial number. She went to the police and they haven’t been able to do anything to help her. She’s only 22, and she’s scared to death. Apple needs to come up with more safety features to protect people from these devices.
thats awful, id recommend using an app to try to detect where it is, i know there are a few on the appstore that tell you how close a bluetooth device is, ive used it to find my airpods, so it would probably work for her!
Apple’s trackers are the only ones on the market that can alert someone that an unknown tracker is moving with them. A criminal could use any other variety and not be caught.
True but it's more complex. Tile for example only updates if the phone has Tile installed. The chances that your victim is going to walk by % of phones with the correct app is smaller than the number with every iPhone in the US where approx 60% of the cellphones are iPhones.
Actually it’s good thing it’s Apple air tag at least that way your phone could notify you, if someone used different tracker they wouldn’t be able to know
For a fee of $300, bounty hunters have been able to pay companies who work with the cell phone carriers, to give them your exact cell phone location in real-time. The Verge did an article on it titled "Carriers can sell your location to bounty hunters because ISP privacy is broken" I remember reading a while back. Journalists were even able to get Trump's location I think I remember, or at least some high profile people and I remember they tested it and were able to verify it works. That's concerning if there's someone out there who wants you dead -- all they have to do is pay $300 on the black market to get your real-time location and bye bye. There's plenty of apps on your phone I'm sure who will gladly sell your location too.
The AirTag notification feature is actually a good thing. There's no question that this kind of behavior has been going on for a while. There are other brands of trackers that have been on the market for a long time such as tile. But if you did not have the tile app you would not get notified that you were being tracked. With AirTags you are notified.
@@watch10minutes Apple made an Android app to detect unknown AirTags. However it doesn’t scan in the background. It only scans each time you open the app.
Airtag serial number is tied to register's account. It means you can file a complain to Apple about nearby airtag for tracking you. After that Apple will probably flag that account and the Airtag
Yo, what’s funny is, you can make a fake AirTag for about $5, that doesn’t notify the owner, and actually uses the AirTag mesh network! Apple is aware of this, they are allowing people to be tracked. If you’re interested in exactly how, it essentially emulates one, with a rolling serial number, so the phone doesn’t see it as one AirTag. This cannot be prevented, because someone is going to encounter many airtags in a day, and getting notified about every one of them is not something an apple user wants to deal with, so this will continue to go unchecked.
@Jasen Vernor that’s because it fell out when they shook everything out and somehow didn’t notice and left it there. Someone who actually uses their phone to find a hidden AirTag would be able to find it and get the serial number. Of course it’s useless if you just throw it away without even looking to see who it belongs to.
When me and my friends went to Lake Tahoe not to long ago, I was receiving notifications that a device was following me around. I checked the route and sure enough it followed me through out our day. It wasn’t until the next morning that I asked my friends if they had an apple AirTag and no one did. We freaked out but then I noticed the device followed us from all the way home to our location. Turns out my friend had her location turned on for her AirPods pros and that was what kept showing up on my alerts.
That happened to my brother too. We thought someone put a air tag in his car or back pack but my sister had her AirPods on and that’s what was following him😅
If they don’t do this already apple should require folks to register the air tag. Even if that means having a credit card on file where they take a dollar just to verify it and refund it.
It requires an active Appleid as well an active cell phone bill. (Prepaid works as well) history of appleid iPhone AirTag etc. After the firmware update can’t requester it without these. But there are 4$ maybe cheaper gps trackers which has no sound, alert, etc etc. cops and Apple have details of AirTags bc my friend filled a report and cops got back and found it was a missing AirTag etc.
It’s not just the AirTag that has been tracked. At work, a coworker on the following line over has a pair of AirPods that my iPhone had been picking upon. It gave me a warning that the AirPods had been with me for a significant amount of time and could be tracked by the device owner. It even shows the routes of the AirPods’ movement. So if you have any idevices, you can be tracked, or if you have an iPhone, you can follow the person with an iDevice if the two items have been within the same vicinity for a specific amount of time.
@@BakedPotato05 Correct so my comment doesn’t make sense… tho perhaps possible to sync to (thief/stalker) 2nd device if "borrowed"… but that’s bordering on paranoia. 😀
@@BakedPotato05 I never had the tracking notice until the AirTag went into the wilds. Once Apple activated the feature on their devices, my iPhone picked up my co-worker’s AirPods, believing those items had been in my possession. I assume any Apple device with the Find My feature will be synced up automatically. It’s just my experience because it legit scared me to think someone had tracked me, but in reality, my iPhone had been following them. Once I figured out who it was, I told them about it, and they stopped using their AirPods on the floor, which we were not allowed to wear except for required earplugs.
There’s tons of non-apple trackers that track you but don’t notify you that you’re being tracked. The Apple AirTag worked as intended and let this family know they were being tracked.
@Utube you realize the Android app only works when you hit a scan button. Unless you're sitting there opening the app and spamming this button 24/7 you can be tracked without ever knowing.
@@PopsGG it only tell apple users because it’s their iphone it uses to track their position or someone else’s iPhone. You can have an AirTag on you at home but if you have android it doesnt track anything. Makes sense?
@@tuanismancr2893 yes but even non iPhone users will be in close proximity to an idevice most of their day. So you could track a person's daily commute, work, shopping and maybe even home without ever notifying them.
@@PopsGG if it’s on your car it would prob rarely ping unless someone with iPhone is close enough to your car and these prob wouldn’t be hidden on your windshield reducing its range remember this is Bluetooth, unless it’s your iPhone it’s using and then it will tell you. In a crowded place like that where people are congregating for long periods, it could also be someone else nearby was walking in the same direction and going in the same areas. It seems likely because they would've heard it fall out after shaking their clothes. It isn't that small and would definitely be easy to see and hear. It's not like a tiny flower pedal or something that just silently blows away in the wind when you shake your clothes.
Thank god someone else here is using their brain. At a place like DISNEY this is going to happen. People use these to track things like kids, strollers, wallets etc. All that happened is some family/families had them and they kept crossing paths at the park which then sends the notification to anyone that's been around it a few times or for extended periods. I laughed my ass off at this story as the news station obviously took ZERO effort in learning about how the AirTags worked and could have easily come to the same conclusion.
This happened to my friend at Disneyland. They figured it was someone walking to the parking structure at the same time as they did, because it stopped once they left the structure on their way home.
It could be a possibility…it picked up another AirTag…..I mean leave your airdrop on in a crowded area and ppl airdrop you photos accidentally. Like idk a Cindy iPhone and why is she sending me photos o_O But didn’t they say they received the notification at 11 and it was the same areas they visited on the map? Would seem too much of a coincidence it picked up someone else’s AirTag and had their same walking path….
Could’ve been a false alert. I got one while in Vegas last month. The false alerts tend to occur more frequently where large amounts of people gather like an amusement park, or just where there’s lots of pedestrian traffic.
If it was in Mom's bag and the daughter was with them, it would notify her phone and of course follow the same route. Funny that they didn't turn it in, said it fell out of their belongings indicating it was probably theirs.
That's so creepy..I use air-tags for my luggage and they work brilliantly for keeping track of it, but Apple needs to work on getting those notifications to people a lot quicker!
If you give an AirTag that you is not yours and that you have only touched (with gloves on) to the police, if the creeps didn’t use good discipline in planting it, a fingerprint can sometimes be obtained by the police dept.
this happened to me too, recently. an apple air tag was detected following me around my classes last semester and would have to be the most terrifying thing I encountered. I went through EVERYTHING and couldn't find anything. the last location was at the library and haven't gotten any notifications since the incident.
This case is actually one of the easiest ones to explain. The iPhone warns you if an AirTag is moving along with you for an extended time, but it's not yours. You're saying you were "followed around classes" by an AirTag? Sounds to me like it might just be a classmate carrying one. If someone's in your classes, they move from room to room when you do. Then when they decided to go study at the library once, they were no longer moving to the same locations as you. Maybe someone who dropped out, got a different schedule or whatever. School is one of the few places where people will move from place to place at the exact same time, usually even walking (somewhat) together...
@@JazDelilah While I appreciate your explanation, I live in a selective learning community on campus. Even if students air tags were the culprit, it wouldn't explain the fact that the tag map on my phone showed that it followed me home when no one else in my house was in my classes or even remotely close to my classrooms. I am the only one out of 19 other people in my house that is a Psychology major, so for me it was really strange, cause no one has air tags in my house I lived in on campus either. So I honestly think it is still kinda weird.
@@mads1864 Oh I'm so sorry, having it follow you home really does refute my whole theory... That must have been so scary! I'm glad it eventually ended :(
all these AirTag controversies really demonstrate how far behind the general public is on technology imagine complaining about the company that DOES tell you when you are getting tracked.... guess what every other tracking device in the past couple decades does NOT do it is not Apple's fault you have been unaware of these type of devices, or how easy they are to obtain through the internet. this technology exists, and it is on you to take precautions against it
There is no possible way they lost the air tag in parking lot, how can you not notice it?it dropped without making a noise ? Something fishy going on here
They were Soooooo concerned about their intrusion of privacy that they immediately contacted every news channel they could find to plaster their “story” and faces all over the news. I foresee the word “lawsuit” coming out of them soon
If they never found the AirTag, how do you know it wasn't someone with an AirTag in their camera bag or purse who had a similar pattern of riding rides? Crowds tend to follow a pattern at Disney parks, and those that go against the pattern often use "touring plans" designed to beat the traffic patterns, but are themselves scheduled. But even if people acted randomly, with so many people there every day, the odds that it will occur that *any* 2 people follow a similar pattern *at some point* are almost certain. Per a quick Google search 5 months ago, Apple had sold over 25 million AirTags, and due to the cost of tickets and other expenses, it is reasonable to assume most Disney attendees can afford Apple products, and that a majority if them have iPhones. And given that a smartphone is almost obligatory for Disney Park attendance (not just for keeping your group together, but most functions like Lightning Lane ride passes and food odering) are handled through the Genie+ app). It is also highly likely that someone would bring an AirTag in their purse or other item to a crowded park where loss or theft is a concern. Since Apple is only automatically tracking a correlation between all iPhones and all AirTags, the likelihood that someone with an Airtag has a similar pattern to someone with an iPhone is almost certain. While the odds of predicting that for any one person are small, it was bound to happen that two tracks match close enough (no telling what close enough means to Apple's algorithm) given enough people cramned into a small space and given time. These people weren't in danger most likely, they were more likely bad at statistics. What is egregious is reporters who should know better are sensationalizing this. I think we will see more if this in areas like theme parks, sports stadiums, festivals, and other events with high concentrations of people, especially those that select for relatively affluent people who might own apple stuff by charging a significant ticket price.
@@armondo22 No, they said it stopped tracking them since the parking lot of the park itself. Even still it could have been a family staying at the same hotel that was nearby in the parking lot because they were going to the same hotel or using the same bus.
MrOffTrail, I agree with your logic on everything except the sensationalism part. Yes fear-mongering is a self-serving trait of news media. However, in situations like these, it really does make sense to be extra vigilant. Especially for the girls/young women who fall within the key demographic of being the victims of schemes like these...yet are usually the least likely to even be moderately vigilant! What is paranoia in one circumstance, becomes common sense in another. We live in a time where it's worth taking the risk of being paranoid.
@@crayon8943 They said it stopped tracking them since the parking lot of the park. Meaning it was probably a family that crossed paths multiple times with them in the park. (more than plausible and highly likely) Someone could of just had it in a purse, stroller, whatever and the two families just kept crossing paths enough to make it "think" they were being tracked. With a place as PACKED as Disneyworld too it could have been multiple AirTags from different families sending them that notification if they walked in the same direction as them for awhile.
Theres a true story of a couple who visited Disney on the same day as kids. My brother is a degreed professional (think research) his first client was my husband's FUTURE boss (engineering). And nope this wasnt a guy with 500 employees. He had a total of 12.

@@logicalblueberry Thank Main stream Media for blaming Apple Airbags and not other sources. When you do a story you shouldn't just stereotype one device. But your welcome.
This devise is scary. There is a chance that you will be notified of being tracked if you have an iPhone, but those who do not have an iPhone will not be made aware. I have read several reports of young women being notified on their iPhone that they were being tracked-usually hours after it initially started- and most were able to find the air tag, but one young woman even went to a local mechanic and they couldn’t find it. So glad this young lady was with her family AND it was detected.
It’s very possible that they were given a false notification. Many people I’m sure at Disney would have AirTags on them. I have one on my keys. If I waited in line with you for a long period of time you might get a notification that my AirTag is following you. Maybe we just happen to go on the next ride together. It could be complete coincidence. It’s a good thing they checked but if they did not have an AirTag on them there’s probably nothing malicious going on here.
The AirTag only gives others notifications when it's away from the owner and tracking you so that would never happen if you were in line since you would be near the AirTag. Unless of course you didn't have your phone on you or something.
Not everyone in the park went the same route she did. They said in the video it took the tracker about 4 hours to alert them something was following them. The tracker probably waited forever to confirm it was her since I'm sure there were hundreds of other apple phones around
@@ld9387 There must be a hole in how they count an active account if so many people are stocking people like this, with this product. @@briannab5296 they said they went and shook it out but couldn’t find a tag. It’s a good example of a story that isn’t national news. It makes people paranoid about something that they shouldn’t be so afraid of. You can control what your phone tracks. The tags are trackable but your phone isn’t. So if you don’t find a tag in your things then it was probably an erroneous notification and your phone received it because of the thousands of devices in the park on any given day
If someone is really committed to tracking you there's other devices out there that your phone can't detect. My point is I think this whole "people tracking you with AirTags" thing Is a little blown out of proportion and sensationalized.
are you stupid? stop production of the safest tracker? so you support human trafficking then, apple AirTag is the safest tracker the notifications is a safety feature no other company has that why are you trying to stop safety?
Can someone enlighten me on how the Apple airtags work? How does someone else's airtag notify you of your locations on your own device? Something's not adding up. Even if it uses an app and she had it installed, why would a stranger's tag show up on her app? Or is it free for all and all tags show up on the app. Confused.
imagine having a little bird follow you around, and instead of being a silent electronic it chirps and tweets ("hey listen") your phone hears that bird and other birds and it can do two things very well: tell them apart / remember the ones it's heard as distinct; and, it can remember where/when it has heard each "bird song" , correlating patterns together. now, the "bird" is a modern bird you see and knows how to tell its nest where it has been travelling all day, and possibly some little bird journal entries to send home for its family to know how it's doing out in the world. this does not change the fact that your phone is capable of identifying that it is sure it has heard this same bird chirping its distinct little song in all the same places you have been... likely with a degree of understanding that the bird only started moving at each point AFTER you started moving this is what your phone is reporting to you
App on her phone notified her. This apple app is in response to the known dangers of their products being used for surveillance. Meanwhile, most don't even have an iPhone so don't know they're being tracked

Ehhh, I think this is a stretch. Of course it’s POSSIBLE, but the fact that they didn’t find the airtag, and just shook out their stuff and then went home is kinda a red flag. They had no idea if it was still on them if they didn’t find it, so they just potentially lead a stranger who planted a tracking device, to their door? I believe they got the notification but I also know that it’s extremely common if you’re in very crowded place for extended periods of time. The fact that this outlet did this story with no evidence but a screenshot (which could be fake or could be from an airtag that they own) is kinda ridiculous.
Air tags need to dispatch a mutual code with a phone nearby kind of like when an Uber driver has to guess your name or else you can’t step into the car - phones need a security threshold.
Sometimes even Apple AirPods give you a tracking notification. I’d be worried too if it were an AirTag though only because it’s only purpose is to track whatever it’s attached to.

Air tags were such a horrible idea like who thought it was a good idea to give civilians access to mini gps trackers that don't require registrations or permits what so ever?
So they shook out their things, but had no idea if the tag was still on their person and their first thought was to go back to their hotel? Really? How about you drive to a Walmart parking lot or somewhere and confirm it’s not there.

She went to the police and they haven’t been able to do anything to help her. She’s only 22, and she’s scared to death. Journalists were even able to get Trump's location I think I remember, or at least some high profile people and I remember they tested it and were able to verify it works.
Yes I believe there is I’ve heard of that, everyone with an android should get it

No way Jose!😬
This happening with an AirTag is a best-case in these scenarios because Apple’s is the only tracker that will notify you when you are being tracked.
Interesting but AirPods would an expensive tracker compared to AirTags or non-Apple trackers.
But AirPods don’t connect to random devices right? I’m pretty sure you have to sync them manually.
It only tells people with iPhones. I guess everyone else doesnt deserve to know they are being tracked.
@Utube you realize the Android app only works when you hit a scan button. Unless you're sitting there opening the app and spamming this button 24/7 you can be tracked without ever knowing.

Like idk a Cindy iPhone and why is she sending me photos o_O
But didn’t they say they received the notification at 11 and it was the same areas they visited on the map? Would seem too much of a coincidence it picked up someone else’s AirTag and had their same walking path….
Thank you I don’t think anyone was following them you can turn on air drop and it picks up others peoples apple devices !
Did you not see the news report? The tracker was found in their belongings. Apparently, people here are too vapid to even pay attention.

Humans get obsessed with beauty.

So glad this young lady was with her family AND it was detected.

imagine having a little bird follow you around, and instead of being a silent electronic it chirps and tweets ("hey listen")
your phone hears that bird and other birds and it can do two things very well: tell them apart / remember the ones it's heard as distinct; and, it can remember where/when it has heard each "bird song" , correlating patterns together.
now, the "bird" is a modern bird you see and knows how to tell its nest where it has been travelling all day, and possibly some little bird journal entries to send home for its family to know how it's doing out in the world.
this does not change the fact that your phone is capable of identifying that it is sure it has heard this same bird chirping its distinct little song in all the same places you have been... likely with a degree of understanding that the bird only started moving at each point AFTER you started moving

Talk about not taking responsibility for your failed Chinese made product
How is Apple responsible? People have been making trackers for decades. This isn't an apple problem, the user incorrectly used the product. Not apples fault at all, and they warn people that this could happen.
AirTags in nutshell :
Pros : Make it easier to find missing people
Cons : Make it easier to make people go missing
I'm still curious on how "she" got the notification on "her" phone
The phone can sense it nearby and notify the user of that phone
@@peace4myheart so even though it's not hers and she didn't have the app on her phone, it's still tracks her and sends her notifications on her phone? That's crazy
Is easy her father planted it . They probably have a family plan.
She got the notification because it was set to her iphone. You have to physically register & set this up on your iPhone. She probably set it & forgot about it. Those airtags don’t just set themself up & notify you. I know this because I set one up in my iphone & attached it to my cat’s collar to track her . 🤔🙄😳🤣🤣🤣🥰
Direct from Apple: “AirTag is designed to discourage unwanted tracking. If someone else’s AirTag finds its way into your stuff, your phone will notice it’s traveling with you and send you an alert. After a while, if you still haven’t found it, the AirTag will start playing a sound to let you know it’s there.
Of course, if you happen to be with a friend who has an AirTag, or on a train with a whole bunch of people with AirTag, don’t worry. These alerts are triggered only when an AirTag is separated from its owner.”
Odd they didn't see it fall out of their belongings, it's the size of a quarter.....
If you know about Disney...you know. 🤷♀️
I mean, trackers existed before Apple AirTag, but okay... sure. Blame Apple?

This is definitely something apple isn’t upset about. More people will want to buy an apple phone so it can notify them if they’re ever being tracked.
that was exactly the purpose of only making it iOS notification
多亏他们用苹果手机!
That's just disgusting.
100 bucks says someone had an AirTag on someone else's child and they just happen to go in the same path. Which WILL send a notification. They lost it in the parking lot tracking wise because they finally got "away" from the AirTag. The fact they get notified is proof this is anti-stalker capable - This is what happens when people don't educate themselves on new technology they assume the worst.
Pretty sure they were just picking up other peoples airtags on their keychains, etc. It would be pretty amazing if apple would prove this was the case so people will chill out.
It’s not a nightmare they got a notification it was probably erroneous it’s crazy that this is NEWS today. If they found an AirTag that would be different. It’s easy to turn your location services off. If it’s connected to your phone you have to have your settings set to connect to new devices.
Being tracked by air tag? Sure put the entire family and their dog in the news for few seconds of fame. Now they know exactly how your entire family looks like. Great job. Really. Smart world.
I dont believe it.
