@@jamespollard1670 I need to go back and see what charge I used. It is really slow for a 22-250. I bought that powder second hand and I’m wondering if it spent several summers in a hot Oklahoma attic. It seems off.
As a loader of ‘250, also, I would wonder if your choice of powder charge is preventing the powder from combusting uniformly. You’re getting close to the same velocities in your ‘250 that I’m getting out of my 223 with 55 gr vmax. Push your charge a little higher and see if your ES shrinks and your flyers start to walk back in to the group. I’d guess you’ve got a lot of powder left to reach max charge. Also, I’m guessing your barrel is a 1 in 14, you will have to push it a little harder to stabilize longer bearing surface bullets (in my experience).
I have been wondering the same thing. I recently got a chronograph so knowing my velocity is a new thing for me. IMR 4064 has always been my go to powder for 22-250 but wanted to try IMR 4895. I will increase my powder charge and let you know how it goes. Do you have a favorite powder for 22-250?
@ i have no idea. I’m a pretty basic reloader. I weigh each charge but otherwise do the minimum. I am going to try a different powder the first chance I get.
@@johanneslaxell6641 I also use Sig Sauer 22-250 and 308w brass, it is very good brass. Very consistent for capacity, neck thickness and runout. Something is definitely wrong, but I would not be suspect of the brass. However, he can always check to see how consistent it is.
Your MV seems very slow. I load my 22-250 (Remington BDL Varmint 24" barrel) with 55 grain bullets to 3612 fps, easily. So far the powder that performs best for me is H-414. It will easily push the Hornady 50-grain V-Max to 3800 fps. My best handloaded group is the Nosler 40 grain ballistic SilverTip at 3900 fps is 3/8" at 100 yards, five shots. But my best ever group is a Winchester factory load, 45 grain HP (3972 fps) that grouped 1/4". The rifle has fired 1220 rounds and accuracy is still top notch. The only accurizing was to free-float the barrel, nothing else.
@@claiborneeastjr4129 I agree that my velocity is slow. I bought this powder second hand. I’m wondering if it’s a little old or maybe wad stored in a hot Oklahoma garage. I’ve only used it here and in my 308 but I’m getting some weird results. You’re getting amazing accuracy from your rifle. I have no idea how many rounds I’ve got through this. I am wondering if the barrel is about worn out.
Something is wrong with your loading process. You should never get that high of es/sd. I also use Sig brass, it is excellent stuff. There are no anomalies with it, in regards to capacity, which would cause a difference in pressure, which has a huge influence on velocity. I'd check your scale, and probably use a different powder. I don't know your loading process, but something needs to get fixed. That rifle would shoot much better, if you get your loading process fixed. Trust me on that one.. I could easily tune that rifle to shoot sub moa all day long..
@@lmbear i agree with what you’re saying. I do weigh every charge. I’m just using. $60 Hornady scale. I think it’s the powder. I get reasonable ES/SD with my other loads. I’m not sure what the problem is. I’m going to start by switching to a different powder.
The velocity was low so I think the powder charge is low . That'll explain the high ES .

We're told those Bergers like a bit of jump. How much in the '250, i haven't a clue . . . ☆

Has anyone else seen extreme spread this high? Any thoughts on what I’m doing wrong?
Can it be different internal volume causing different pressure and speed?
